My review of the Joyo JP-02 Power Supply 2. I think this is a pretty good power supply.
Pros: Clean power, multiple voltage options, small package.
Cons: It's not a real isolated power supply like a Voodoo lab, it is a glorified regulated daisy chain. Thanks for watching!

I own the BBE Supa-Charger and its AWESOME! I just did a review of it if you want to check out my video of the powersupply. Plus, its $99 right now on Amazon, which is $50 off its normal price, so if you have the money, I'd say watch my review on it and go snag one up!

@Anthony I live in China and I've used one of these for 7 years (gigging about once every 3 weeks between 2015-2019). It was very cheap and I was really expecting it to blow at anytime and carried a spare with me for the first year of regular gigs - but it's still going strong. About half the time we were going through big PA's but never found an issue with noise. The one downside I found was that if we were in a small gig and the lights were very low if the power supply lights were shining upwards, the blue lights were really blinding (no really I'm a little long sighted and when there was also sweat in my eyes it wasn't fun). I soon learned to attach it or hide it under my pedal board.

Hi, I'm new to the power supply block for pedalboard, I m considering about buying this Joyo since I just bought a pedaltrain mini (hope it can be sticked underneath the board) and clean up the board. Is regulated output a bit like a daizy chained output like 1spot? If I use 1 output for each of my BOSS pedal, it won't make any hum noise? Or do I still have to plug a daisy chain out from one output to reduce the hum?

Greetings from India and thanks for the review. Inspired by this video I bought a JP-02 and found it's very handy, solid build quality, no noise and "virtually" it came out as an isolated power supply- the reason because everyone knows that EHX Clone chorus doesn't work on daisy chain, I tried mine with Behringer 9V daisy chain but no luck. Then I tried the clone with Joyo JP02 along with other 9V pedals and it's got powered up. I am not a electronics guys but based on this I guess that this is an isolated PS.

Abhijit Das The wall wart is an isolated supply, but the brick itself is not. That being said, it is quieter than a daisy chain and depending on the set up can be just as useful as much more expensive supplies. Glad its working for you and hopefully my review helped. Hi Anthony this is a nice review. actually im building my own pedalboard now and looking for a power supply. my pedals includes boss rv-5, dd-3, equalizer, ibanez ts-9, blackstar ht-dist, crybaby and a tuner. do u think the JP02 can provide enough power for my chain? or i need to get a true isolated one? another question is that is this JP02 gonna work on the 220V? in the US we have 110V as the electricity standard, but in Asia and Euro they usually has the 220V as the standard.

Fulltone at 18v had very little added noise other than the noise you normally get from a dirt pedal. It thickened up the pedal and gave it some more balls and a better "feel" when playing it at 18v.

Wow.. Great review. Will it make a difference in using a true isolated power supply like the Voodoo Labs and the Joyo ? I used to use 1 Spot and I found it a little noisy and then replaced it with a BBE Supa Charger and that cleaned my signal quite a lot. Now I am looking to buy a power supply for my second pedalboard. What would you suggest ?
@HomeGuitarMods
@HomeGuitarMods 10 жыл бұрын
Anand Ramakrishna Sorry for the late reply. I have always liked the 1Spots myself, especially for smaller boards. I use one every week when I use just a few pedals. It's easy to set up and any noise that you might hear when the amp is cranked right next to you in your quiet bedroom will most likely never be heard by the audience. As long as you're not having loud noise issues. The Joyo will do a slightly better job of reducing noise, but if a pedal is really noisy because of issues being a part of a daisy chain with the 1spot it will be noisy with the Joyo as well. If it were me, and I knew that my pedals worked with the 1Spot, and I didn't need the higher voltage options, I'd use a 1Spot. The noise difference between the two I just don't think justifies the extra cost of the Joyo. The Power options, however, do.

Hey Anthony, I have a question... just bought the joyo tremolo based on your review as well. Cool pedal but it is not working well with my one spot. Had not any problem for all the years that I am using onespot but now if I connect the tremolo some noise appears even if its off. I am thinking of a better power supply of to throw a dedicated standard supply just for the trem. The second solution is a.A lot cheaper (I cant afford a 200€/$ power supply) b.less spacey (I have no more space in my pedalboard) What do you think is the best solution for me??
@HomeGuitarMods
@HomeGuitarMods 10 жыл бұрын
First I would say let's do some trouble shooting before spending any more money. Sometimes when pedals are on a daisy chain they don't work quite right in some orders. For example, if I use my one spot with my morley volume and an overdrive pedal that has boost on it (like the full tone fulldrive or jet city afterburner), when the boost is on the pedal makes a high pitch squeal, wether the overdrive is bypassed or not. I also have trouble with my boss dd7 if it's towards the end of the power daisy chain but works well if it's powered fist or close to the first plug on the daisy on the side that plugs into the one spot power supply. I've even changed the order of some pedals to get rid of noise. With that said, what is you effects order? What order are your pedals powered? Try switching that around first with the tremolo powered first or close to first in line. If you want pm me. Maybe we could talk on google+ however that works.

Anthony Brown Thanks for your reply and thoughts... My signal chain is... TC polytune>Vox Wah>Jam pedals Dynassor>Boss sd-1>Carl Martin Plexitone>Joyo Tremolo (just inserted in-between)> MXR analog chorus> TC Flashback x4. All pedals are powered via onespot except the plexitone (has its own build-in power supply and cable for plugin it to the wall) and flashback which comes with its power supply. Those 3 separate power lines are pluged into a safe power strip on my pedalboard. I didnt care for the daisy chain order untill now.. I juess its whatever it is... the joyo came last for sure and if I look to my pedalboard it must be polytune>boss sd-1>Jam dynassor>Wah>chorus. I can sent you a picture of my pedalboard on google+. First think I am gonna do is to switch around the supply chain for experimenting and then to try power the joyo separate with a DUNLOP AC 9v Adapter (my original cheap option) that I already found from a classified ad, localy. (my original cheap option) I am gonna see this guy this afternoon...
@ApostolosKaratzas
@ApostolosKaratzas 10 жыл бұрын
Anthony Brown Update: I have made some supply chain tests and I found that actually I have one other pedal generating hum... that was the polytune. Finaly I came with this power chain order: Boss sd-1>Wah>Chorus>Jam dynassor, and last>TC's polytune. This came up pretty well as only with gain you can slightly notice hum on my amp (I dont use much gain after all, anyway). And the pedal that started it all.. the Joyo tremolo. That is now powered separetely by a dunlop dc 9v adapter and does not effect at all, whether its on or bypassed (ok, it's cyrcles are quite hearable when its on with gain but I guess that is normal). I think that is the best I can do and have nothing to gealus of an expensive powersuply unit. 4 pedals are now running with 1spot, 3 with their own seperate supplies. No more sockets left on my power strip :P

I don´t knew that the 12v output can´t run with my AKG SR45 wireless system for bass because it has a 12v 300 mA and the 12v output of power supply caline is just for 12v 100 mA devices. Are there many solutions for this problem? Thanks! PD: Im spanish, sorry for the worst english ever.

hey brother! how are u? i´m currently running TWO Visual Sound One Spot. One for a BOSS RE 20 Space Echo that needs isolated power in order to no hum and another one with 11 Daisy chained pedals (boss, mini fuzz, face, mooers, etc) Do you think that the Joyo will not be different in terms of noise that runing the two one spots?
@HomeGuitarMods
@HomeGuitarMods 10 жыл бұрын
You will have more noise if you just use the Joyo. It is not an isolated powersuppy, so as long as you kept using a one spot on your re20, then you would have the same performance you have now. If you plug them all into the Joyo, you will have noise just like if you plugged them all into one 1Spot.

i use 12 pedals right now and two of them i want to run in 12v or 18v... i think if it will be good to run 10 analog into the joyo and the Boss RT 20 and Boss RE 20 in the two One Spot... it will be very silent? can you notice a quieter overdrive sound in the Joyo instead of the Onespot?
@HomeGuitarMods
@HomeGuitarMods 10 жыл бұрын
I think you may have less noise, but not a huge difference. Most of the noise made from overdrive pedals while there on is the pedal itself. So if you are using high gain pedals, you will always hear noise while the pedal is on, regardless of type of power used.

Howdy, I'm just now looking into Power Supply's for my board and have a lot to learn about 'em. Your video was great, and it seems that I will be looking for one with isolated power. Seems that Voodo is the bread and butter of supply, but do you have other recommendations?
@HomeGuitarMods

Depending on the pedals you have, I am always a fan of the Visual Sound 1Spot. I know its just a cheap daisy chain power supply, but I have used one for years with all kinds of lighting and stage craziness and they have always worked really well. And when Im putting together a mini board for a gig (mini meaning 5 pedals rather than my normal 12-14) I use a 1Spot. If you need an isolated power supply, yes the Voodoo, I have the BBE Supa-Charger which I have a review of as well. I haven't used any others but there are much more expensive options as well if you need it. Even this Joyo is a nice supply, it just didn't do what I needed. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

@HomeGuitarMods 11 жыл бұрын
Ok, If you are using a 1spot allready I would say just use that. The Joyo is bairly less noisy because it is regulated but not isolated. In a normal isolated power supply, like the voodoo lab pedal power, if you plug each pedal seperatly you will reduce or eliminate noise, on the joyo it wont matter. You can use a daisy chain on one of the outputs, but you have to make sure you dont go over the MA of the output. So you dont want to use a 200ma reverb on a 100ma output, you use the 500ma out.

Good clear review and excellent useful information . Thank you for making this. I've recently got the Caline version of this. Thus far I've only tested it with Drive pedals. It certainly does clean up well. The inevitable extra hiss that comes with increased gain is definitely reduced now. Next test is to see how it does with a few digital pedals. With luck the filtering might be enough. Otherwise I'l have to search out true isolation or maybe build one myself. Some people say the DC-DC converters can introduce beat frequency audio noise but others say not. I might give it a try though as they're a lot smaller and cheaper than whole stack of TXs

Hey man thanks for all your research. I plugged in my JOYO and I'm experiencing what seems to be low power issues. I'm using the JOYO to power a boss Boss DD6(55mA), Fulltone OCD(7mA), BBE Sonic Stomp(7.7mA), Boss TU(55mA), TubeScreamer 808(7.5mA) MXR EVH phase 90(8.2mA) and an older Fulltone Supa-Trem(7.6mA). 148 total mA. Only using space 1-7. Should be fine right? As each space in the JOYO is at least 100mA? Got it all plugged together and and sound fades in and out. Nearly zero term effect when Supa-Trem engaged. engaging the MXR silences the whole rig. Other pedals seem to work fine. Main issue is volume drop I suppose some tone loss as well. Of course I double checked my amp straight in and it's fine. All these powered just fine with my one-spot. FYI: DL4, Old EHX (wedge shaped) Holy Grail and 70's EHX Memory man are all using their own power. Sorry to trouble you but you're quite a bit more knowledgeable on this than I. Would you mind sharing your thoughts?

Hey guy, good job! I'm just getting into using stomp boxes. So far I've got the Boss CS-3, The Ibanez Tube Screamer, The Boss DD-3 running into my Roland Cube 60. I play in restaurants, and lounges here in Myrtle Beach, SC. My question is, I've powered the pedals with a simple daisy chain and have a considerable amount of unwanted hiss and hum. I've been looking for an affordable noise gate on Ebay, but I'm thinking the Joyo JP-02 might take care of the problem. What do you think? Maybe I need both?
@HomeGuitarMods
@HomeGuitarMods 9 жыл бұрын
If you're using a daisy chain and you have a lot of electronic noise due to bad power in clubs and such, the Joyo isn't going to do you much better. Assuming the noise isn't coming from your guitar, I would invest in a furman power conditioner. Just get the $60-$70 furman M-8x2. It's a unit that cleans up the power that comes out of the wall. Take that with you to wherever your playing and plug your gear into it. If you think it's your pedals making noise because of the daisy chain, try powering them off of batteries to see if the noise is reduced. If so then I would look into a power supply like the voodoo lab or BBE Supa charger. Hope that helps!

If you want the lowest noise possible in your pedals, use individual DC batteries to each pedal. Small 12 volt DC batteries are hard to find though. 18 volts are two 9 volt batteries in series. Barring that, separate analog and digital pedals into two power supplies. Digital pedals generate noise with clocked circuits but are more noise immune typically with digital signals being used. Analog pedals probably don't generate much noise into the power but they might if poorly designed. Analog circuits tend to be rather susceptible to noise so we like separating/isolating them from the digital circuits whenever possible. The quality of these power supplies is in how well they filter 60 cycle ripple from the 110 volt alternating current (AC-sinusoidal) outlet into the direct current (DC-constant voltage) voltage (9, 12, 18) power that is generated. It is also in how well they reject noise induced by one pedal so it does not effect another pedal. I am suspect when I see the wall wart (a small transformer and/or switching power supply) generating 18 volt DC that is coupled into the box and distributing it/converting it down to other voltages. These may not last long. However, they are fairly inexpensive and light.

The Biyang would be good for what if does. I did not buy it because two of the outputs are ACA which is 12 volts and meant for old Boss pedals and two other outputs are only 6 volts and only to be used for the Biyang tube pedals, so your left with only 5 standard power outputs for modern pedals. Id save for a BBE Supa Charger, there 99 bucks on Amazon right now. Thats what I bought after this and its a great powersupply.

Check the current draw of your pedals and add them up, but from what I see you should be fine, although I think your blackstar will need to use its own power supply because it uses 300v, so you'll have to use supply that came with, and thats regardless of what power supply you use. Not sure about the power for the joyo, but they should send you the right wall plug for where you live, just make sure you get the right one.

Saw someone else's review for the Caline powersupply that is a twin of this one, and they said and showed that the reverse polarity adaptors were not actually reverse polarity, they are just extensions. Any comment on if the reverse polarity cables on this Joyo one were wired correct?

If your not needing an isolated power supply its great, and cleaner than a one-spot or a godlike daisy chain power-supply, but its not going to have the benefits of a true isolated power supply. Glad to help!
@HomeGuitarMods
@HomeGuitarMods 11 жыл бұрын
I hope my other comment makes sense. Basically, you have to use separate outputs to isolate the pedals from each other. Think of each power output as a separate wall plug. Thats how a isolated power-supply works. The Joyo however uses one wall plug for the power block, so each output is connected even thought there separate. The Joyo should have no problem fitting under the mini, but again, if you have a 1spot, I would just use that unless you need the 12v or 18v option.

Can you plug 9V pedals into the 12V and 18V outs? Great video.
@HomeGuitarMods
@HomeGuitarMods 10 жыл бұрын
NO NO NO! Well, not unless the pedal says it can like the Fulltone Fulldrive or OCD or a few other overdrive pedals that they can. Otherwise, I would only try it at your own risk and only on drive pedals, never on a delay, reverb, optical effect, ect., because you will more than likely burn it up! Although the safest answer is still NO! Thanks for watching!

@HomeGuitarMods
@HomeGuitarMods 10 жыл бұрын
Try another power supply if you can, it sounds like your current power supply might be bad or you may have one pedal that doesn't like being in the chain. If you have any digital pedals try taking them out of the chain one by one first, they are usually the ones that dont like being in a chain. If its a case of a pedal not liking the daisy chain and not the power supply you already have, the Joyo will not be any different.

No, it wont. It might be able to power it but you could run into noise issues and possibly not enough ma from the power supply. If you want to go cheap, just get a VisualSound 1Spot, the sweetwater site says it can power the Dl4 and dependin on your other pedals, if you use the daisy chain you should have plenty of ma to powers the Dl4. Just order from somewhere you can return it if you end up with noise.

Anthony Brown Thanks. Currently using a 1spot for some of the board pedals but the dl4 is on its native power supply. As well, I have the old wedge shaped holy grail that gets unhappy when chained into the 1spot. Guess I'll get a VooDoo.

All I am using in my chain is: BOSS, TU-2, CE-3, DD-6 and RV-5 and a BadHorsie wah out to a Mesa Triple Rec. The 1Spot I think is causing a lot of noise with the daisy chain cable.I will get this in a couple days (ordered it today actually). Let everyone know my results.

"10 outputs featuring isolated short-circuit and heat protection." What we think it means is "isolated power" but it literally says " isolated short-circuit" and in their actual description on the power supply they say " All outputs are fully regulated and offer isolated short circuit protection, MEANING if one output is overpowered beyond the power rating for any reason, all other outputs will not be affected." (Emphasis mine.) Is it false advertising? Is it technologically correct but misleading? Is it perfectly ok to call it what it actually is even if it's confusing? Is it just the consumers fault for lack of reading comprehension? The Joyo is $48 on Amazon, the VooDoo is $169. Other than that GREAT REVIEW. It is a tank of a power supply and a great upgrade from a OneSpot.

hI I use a crybaby by slash on it as well as a boss tuner as well as a small marshall mini amp and a fender stomp box with no problems with back ground sound> So go for it I love the quality. My crybaby uses the 18v plug which is hard to find without spending alot of money to power.Also you will love the blue leds on it. It certainly looks cool.

I find I often watch your videos way more than once or twice. This is one of them. Currently I'm looking for an isolated PS to meet my power needs, but I'm having a tough time finding something straightforward enough. I've got 9 pedals, all standard connectors. I'd like to run 3 of them at 18V if possible, but bare minimum, two should be at 18V. The Pedal Power 2 Plus is ALMOST there, but definitely requires some Y cables and thought to make it work. I'm currently using a 1 Spot for the 9V stuff and Dunlop 1A wallwart for the 2 18V pedals. No real problems, but I use single coils so I'm looking to squash any noise I actually DO have control over.
@HomeGuitarMods
@HomeGuitarMods 10 жыл бұрын
I don't think you'll find any with 3 18v outs unless you get a custom powersupply. IMHO, the 1Spot does a great job of keeping quiet. I use P90's and still get a little noise, especially under lights. I just use my volume pedal as a mute in between songs and remember to turn off all my dirt pedals when not playing. A quick tip I would have would be to run a good insulated extension cable with multiple outs on the end and plug your wallwarts to it, keeping your wallwarts close to your pedalboard. Also, try to avoid running instrument cables, like the one going to your amp, next to your power cables. It's all down to playing with your rig and finding where your noise is coming from and then troubleshooting from there. Even with my BBE, I use a daisy chain for most of my dirt pedals and my volume. I then isolate my digital stuff and one of my overdrive pedals that doesn't get along with my wah. All in all it takes some playing. If your not having terrible noise issues and need 18v and your pedals are within the ma outputs of the Joyo, I'd say go for it, it does a nice job. Thanks for watching and hopefully you aren't having to watch my videos to many time so understand me ;). Thanks again!

Anthony Brown Also, the Pedal Power 2 Plus is currently $118 at Musician's Friend (though it is backordered). It's very tempting. I don't like the Voodoo Lab Y cables though, they aren't right angle on the pedal side. I think there are other companies that make Y cables that are though (at least that's what I found on eBay). If I used the PP2+ it'd be my 2 18 volters taking up 1-2 and 7-8, leaving 3 and 4 for single pedals, and I can run short daisy chains off of 5-6. I'm on the fence though on that one.
@HomeGuitarMods
@HomeGuitarMods 10 жыл бұрын
If your going to spend the $70 on the JOYO, at the price of the Voodoo Lab I'd say get the Voodoo. Way more product for the money and you won't regret it. Just my 2 cents from a guy who waited a long time to get a regulated powersupply. Especially if your playing around lights (like a stage), they are nice. Another cheap but larger option is a rack powerconditioner. I got he musicians gear one because my house has a noisy ground, and the powerconditioner got rid of the noise. It's another thing to have to drag around, but can help reduce noise and is cheap.

lease help!!! Firstly i know that the best power supplies to power your pedals are isolated and that the Joyo JP-02 Power Supply 2 or Harley Benton Power Plant are not But I'm on a tight budget there seems to be pros and cons for both but I'm so confused i have ordered 2 JOYOS and they will be delivered soon from amazon uk. Then i noticed the Harley Benton Power Plant from Thomann and know I'm really confused. The JOYO is £45 and the Power Plant is £30 The JOYO has 8x9V (7 x 100mA and 1 x 500mA), a 12v and a 18v Power Plant has 8x9v outs all at 500mA and 2x12v (NO 18v) The JOYO uses a wall wart 18v Ac to power the brick and the PowerPlant uses a 230v Kettle lead? The Joyo has some cool LEDS and the PowerPlant Does not. (OK thats not really important i guess) lol I hear generally good things about JOYO i get the impression its generally good budget gear. I really don't want to pay £300 (i.e. voodoo labs) on power supplies id rather put it towards another Blackstar Amp or something else. I must admit the kettle lead appeals more but is this really important vs a wall wart would it be better to have the 18v option. ALSO what does Milli amps mean i have no idea if its safe to plug a pedal that says 100mA in a 500mA output??? Please Help!!!!! My board consists of Boss rc2 Boss dd7 Small stone phaser NANO Boss CH1. Boss OC3 Maxon OD9 Boss CS3 Boss TU3 tuner Vox wah. Xotic RC booster Boss F5-6 footswitch Vox V847 wah I can always send the JOYOS back if the Consensus is to go for the Power Plant. And it would be great if some one can explain Milliamps to me.! Thanks in advance! :D

Just try the Joyo's out if you already ordered them. I've used a 1sopt for years and had great luck until I got a the line 6 delay which didn't like being on a daisy chain. I don't know anything about the Harley Benton so I'm not sure what to say about that but I'm sure a quick google search would do you more good than I can. I do now use a bbe supa charger and I like it a lot. But even on that I run skull my dirt pedals on a daisy chain out of one power out on the power supply so I can have more open isolated outs for the pedals that need it, so I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a non isolated power supply as long as it works with your gear. Hope that helps!
