And to think, people pay $500-$600 for a dealership to change your oil & lube some cables. Bikes are stupid simple, and it doesnt take a rocket scientist to understand how to perform these services. Thanks for the great video J&P!

I agree, the only thing I don't know if I would be comfortable with is adjusting the clutch cable

You said you'd walk through "everything else", and then FF through it. Why? Most of us know how to change oil, it's the other stuff that needs to be described.

Why not show us which critical fasteners?? If rear cylinder is too lean, how do you correct it?

Run a Colder Plug. In my 1959 XLCH I ran a 4 in the front and a 6 in the rear head.. NOT that'll be Your set up but if it Isn't an Air Leak in the carburetor System, then the rear head/ cylinder are running Hotter being blocked by the front cylinder/head. Causing an apparently Normal Air/Fuel mixture to Burn Lean. Cooling that Fire will burn a little less efficiently, resulting in aan apparently Richer Burn.. . Hope this Helps Ask a Qualified Harley-Davidson maintenance Mechanic, next trip to the Dealership.. *He'll likely confirm the Odd Plug fix for Harley-Davidson Rear Cylinder Lean Fix.*

I purge my whole motor of oil. This method shown here would leave about 500+ mil of dirty oil still in the system. Other than that, this is a good video guide.

Nice video, thank you. Two quick questions about your tools. I like that t-handle spinner wrench you were using and your dial type tire gauge / inflater with the locking air chuck. What brand are they and where can I find them?

Easy as a Google search. Tire servicing gauge setups are very common, from cheap to expensive.

Good video, but remember to obtain the FACTORY service manual (not Clymer/Chilton/Haynes birdcage liners) AND parts catalog for your machine. They save you far more than they cost. The parts book gives you useful exploded views, and the part numbers you need to source replacement parts. You'll thank me later.

Great video, Paulie. Happy after adjusting my clutch and changing fluids to see you install the same derby cover gasket I used this past weekend. (Yes I ordered it and other parts from you guys...😎) just different from the full circle HD one I’m used to. So I guess it’s ok that the inside cover gets oil on it, right?
@obfuscated3090
@obfuscated3090 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not him but after enough years you know what gaskets you can safely reuse. I even spray Brownell's Acraglas (gun bedding release agent) on my personal gaskets before install though I always have a spare engine set to pick from (I don't buy toilet paper by the sheet either.) Another sometimes useful trick is use 3M Weatherstrip adhesive to glue a gasket to the cover then a light wipe of oil etc on the exposed gasket. I get two or three primary cover R&Is before having to replace.

A tip - DON'T pull your oil tank dipstick before you start draining. Wait for a bit, watch the oil flow out the drain, and keep watching it as you then pull the dipstick out. It gives you a free, non-invasive test of the rocker breather diaphragms ('umbrella valves'?) in some rocker boxes. If they're not sealing properly, then the oil will run quickly from the start. If your oil is draining a bit slow, then speeds up when you pull the dipstick out, you know the breathers are okay without having to do any disassembly to check. It's a free test.
