JPO | Mozart: The Magic Flute Overture | Cond. Robert Maxym

This week, as part of the At Home with the JPO series, we present an audio recording of Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture. The performance, under the baton of Robert Maxym, was recorded at the Linder Auditorium in March 2004.
The Magic Flute is considered one of the greatest operas of all time, and is among the most frequently performed. The Overture, which has been described as ‘succinct and energetic’, was completed just two days before its world première in 1791. The opera marked an important new path for Mozart, as it was the first stage work that he had written for commercial theatre, rather than a work commissioned from an aristocratic court.
