Clearly these guys are smarter and more cultured than many others (of any generation), and know how to party, yet appreciate different places with respect and enjoyment.

Fun (or unwanted) fact..... Bath is nestled within 7 hills, just like Rome! The river with the narrowboats is the River Avon. It starts in the Cotswolds and flows south into Wiltshire and Somerset (through Chippenham and Bradford) and then back north and west through Bath and Bristol. There is a canal at Bath which links it to the River Kennet which flows into the Thames, so you can boat from the Atlantic, through England and London to the North Sea.

In the UK and throughout Europe you’ll find many of the traditional buildings are made out out of the materials that were available locally, hence all the stone buildings in Bath. Edinburgh is similar. In the Cotswolds you find some made of flint. In London many Victorian buildings were built with bricks made of London clay, which were originally a yellow colour. I now live in a city with an eleventh century castle. About 400 years ago they tried to blow it up to obtain the stones because of a shortage of local building material. They didn’t succeed and the castle is now a museum.

Cotswold stone (that most buildings are made from) is a yellow Oolitic* (Jurassic period) Limestone... It was taken mostly from the surrounding Cotswold hills. *Oolitic limestone is made up of small spheres called 'ooiliths' that are stuck together by lime mud. They form when calcium carbonate is deposited on the surface of sand grains rolled (by waves) around on a shallow sea floor. 👍 🇬🇧

Cheapest ive had was in Rhyl, 22 pounds a night inc morning coffee, but it was good for the price, a huge room with double bed a table in the bay windows looking out to sea with a basic kitchen. the oddest place ive stayed in, shared bathroom too but it was a very early 90's feel with the bedding and strange wallpaper but i could not be mad at just 22 pounds a night with a sea view kitchen and huge room bargain

The temperatures in the UK were just insane last week: 41C (106F) - the hottest ever. Right now, the UK is experiencing rail strikes. Hopefully this does not cause you any problems. Try Oxford if you can. It is genuinely impressive. Good luck! PS Bath's main attraction is the Roman Baths which have been there are nearly 2,000 years.

My grandparents lived in Bath for about 20 years before having to go back to live near London due to their age/health (went in nursing home) and needing to be closer to their children. However, I always enjoyed visiting them in Bath as a child and wish I asked more questions considering they had just a wild background/interesting stories (one Irish catholic who emigrated, scottish grandad a black cab driver in London).

I think you have to treat this trip as a taster for when you come back next time. Dashing round with a day in each place means you see the main tourist sites, but not much of anything else, and it's usually the 'anything else' that really makes the trip interesting. Bath is great, but like Bath more than London just really highlights how much of London you didn't see. The UK can be difficult, as it's often the smaller towns and cities that are more interesting than the big cities, simply because most of the big cities are industrial.

Best UK rail app is Citymapper for cities, and Trainline for general nationwide travel. Occasionally it will get a platform wrong, but very rare in my experience. Also 'Reading' pronounced 'Red-ding'. So nice to see foreigners appreciating our country, makes me like it a little more :)

Aww that's so heartwarming. Your response to the view at the top of the hill is lovely. It's become so "normal" to me, coming from Sheffield with 6 hills. That was essentially the view out of our window every day. I'd personally rather see trees and green on those rolling hills than stone, but it's so sweet to see your response. We do forget how beautiful the UK is.

I am sorry you came when we had the worst heatwave in history as well as a train strike!!! Oh well, chalk it up to experience - it gives more stories to tell friens and family back home. I'm currently living in london, and when I moved here I lived in different hostels for the first 1,5 years. 9 different hostels in total, but I managed to stay in the last hostel for about a year before I moved to my own room in a flat share and now I can finally afford to rent my own flat. Living in different hostels for a while wasn't too bad though. It was never boring, because you never knew what was going to happen with a lot of different people coming and going. With that said, 1,5 years was more than enough and I feel very fortunate to be able to live on my own now.

Cheapest hostel I stayed in was $3, that was in Cambodia about 20 years ago and included single room, coffee and an egg baguette in the morning so the room was basically free. It was on the edge of a lake and had a bar overlooking the lake and most people would meet there to watch the sunset before going out for the night, so I think that's where they made their money.

Yay!!! Congratulations on 50,000 subscribers Joel!🤩🥳👏🏼🤩🥳👏🏼🤩🥳👏🏼 I’m glad it cooled off for you in Bath; the cooler weather is much more conducive to walking around.😰 That meal looked delicious and has made me very hungry. Glad to see you didn’t get totally pissed up on your night out, I was hoping you’d get some video footage on your camera phone, although you did the right thing not taking your camera in. That kind of interaction with those lads is often typical in this country. It’s still strange to see people filming while talking into a microphone so they may have been genuinely interested in your KZbin channel or just triggered by what they may have thought were a couple of random College geeks making naff videos for some naff college course (their possible attitude, not mine). Glad it didn’t spoil your visit and you certainly looked like you had a great night! Oh yeah, just been listening to you attempting to speak brooad Yarksha ont’ YO1 radio. Tha’ sounded arreight fo’ first bit then tha’ lost it second bit and sounded like a Viking invader (which is probably what the Yorkshire dialect sounded like 1000 years ago, so you may have sounded more authentic than we do today!)👍🏼 Here it is for anyone else who would like to listen. player.autopod.xyz/200949 As usual, I can’t wait for the next instalment!😎

Hi guys, I'm enjoying the videos, good to see you enjoying your trip. It seems like a lot of travelling but you seem to be making it work for you. I've never been to Bath but have heard stories of it. Glad you got to see the canal and some narrow boats, if you like peace and quiet you'll enjoy a walk along the towpaths. The canal is The Kennet & Avon branch and goes west to east across the country, it joins the grand union canal that travels north to south (London to Birmingham) so you can travel a large part of the country using the canals but it might take some time. The Kennet & Avon canal is apparently very beautiful. One I hope I may travel it myself.

You missed Swindon! Yay! One time I went to Bath, the train was stopped by cows on the line, so you were lucky. My colleague spent a good while pointing out the good stock as she’d raised cows in the States. You go to bath for the baths. The Roman baths. Also, the famous Royal Crescent. Seems like you missed those. Bath - that’s the river Avon, one of Britain’s biggest rivers. It links in with the canal system.

The very steep steps leading to Alexandra Park where you was looking at the views of Bath, is called Jacob's Ladder (which having lived in Bath all my life, I'm embarassed to say I've never climbed). Next time you come to Bath, have a ride on the red tour bus that takes you around the city, and its skyline (which you can walk, but its about six miles long). You really need a week to see everything. You can get a really good view of Bath from Sham Castle as well. Your reacton to the views, have made me truly appreciate where I live.

As A Brit living most of my life in the USA , I am still amazed at the ignorance of the outside world that most Americans have. Like the French, they don't have Passports, and never travel , unlike the 4.5 Million Brits who visit the USA every year. (These Brits also, on cheap trips to Florida, never meet Educated and Cultured Americans) , so the mis-understandings can work both ways.
