QI is one of the best shows on TV. Each series is about a different letter if the Alphabet (allowing it to run for 26 series, with one series per year). We're currently in series 19 (S) so you have a lot to catch up on if you can find it to watch. It's a BBC programme. Alan Davies is on every episode as the resident dunce with guests including comedians, scientists, politicians etc. The quiz is designed to be impossible to answer with points deducted if you give an answer that everyone believes to be correct but isn't, or the most obvious joke answer. I'd highly recommend it. Stephen presented the first 13 series, and rather Sandi Toksvig (a very intelligent lady) took over from series N.

Fry has had a varied life recommend his first autobiography where his run in with the law is talked about in detail. One thing about QI is that the scoring is baffling to say the least. Recommend watching more with both host, l attended it been recorded once one episode 3 hour's because of the chaos.

@@thatsthat2612 I'm from Kentucky, and the program 'Stephen Fry's America' chose our bourbon distilling country as a destination for Stephen. He got roundly "blitzed" on Knob Creek bourbons, made from Kentucky's cavernous carbonate spring water (think our version of the Mendip limestone waters of the River Axe at Wookey Hole in Somerset, if you must), mixed with fermented grains, and aged in charred oak barrels for five years.... I loved the entire "Stephen Fry's America" series, but of course I was most charmed by the segment when he visited my own beloved Kentucky. I'll say one thing about the cavernous limestone plateaus and escarpments of Central Kentucky: they remind me of those of the Somerset Levels and the Mendip Hills, having only visited the latter once: it was easy to imagine, standing in Somerset, that one was exactly back in north central Kentucky: it was only the presence of your sheep versus our dairy cows that gave the game away, when one opened one's eyes. Otherwise, the land was uncannily much the same. It was raining.

A show in the recording studio lasts around two hours and it’s edited down to thirty minutes for TV. Part of the additional time is the host warming up the audience. Stephen used to play a word game and Sandi Toksvig hosts a brief quiz with the audience. The host then introduces the panellists. The audience doesn’t know who they are going to be until that moment.

Stephen Fry has a rich comedy history. Like so many of our best comedians he was in the Cambridge Footlights along with his best friend Hugh Lawrie, Emma Thompson and Tony Slattery. All of them were in the film 'Peter's Friends' together. Stephen and Huge performed as a comedy duo for many years and had a sketch show 'A Bit of Fry & Laurie' on the BBC. They also played the leading roles in a brilliant TV adaption of P.G. Woodhouse's 'Jeees & Wooster' with Hugh as the Gormless upper class idiot Bertie Wooster and Stephen playing his valet, Jeeves, or his 'Gentleman's gentleman' as Jeeves would say. These are well worth watching. Stephen also played the part of Lord and later General Melchet in the second and fourth Blackadder Series. Hugh was in the third and fourth series and was in one episode of the second series. He's done loads of other things too. He's bipolar and the president of mental health charity Mind.

Actually, I was brought up and taught to cook, from an early age, with a Rayburn, we were working class, ran a sub-post office and a grocery store - the family ran it from 1909-1983 - and that Rayburn was our only source of heating, hot water and airing clothes. An alternative source of heat were paraffin stoves. Our electric was introduced - with the rest of the village, in the county of Suffolk - in the mid-fifties, along with pumped water. Before that, a range for cooking, paraffin stoves and a copper for hot water and laundry. One of my jobs was to go down to the outhouse building wherein was the old copper, then disused, where was kept a large paraffin tank and coal for the open fires and anthracite for the Rayburn. On freezing cold mornings I hated that job. Also sawing and chopping the wood. Still, necessary, otherwise the chore of sweeping out the Rayburn after it had fizzled out and relighting, otherwise no dinner! I knew when the fuel was getting low when, in the dim outbuilding, you could see the yellow from the old Lambert's Tea sign that had been repurposed, for putting the fuel on, upon the dirt floor. On those mornings, in the depths of winter, I didn't, for one second, imagine we were 'posh' or living in an Enid Blyton novel.

He is a comedian but he’s made a few more serious docu- series. I saw you looking a bit puzzled during the first extract there. When tailors ask men, “which side do you dress?” it’s to avoid touching them inappropriately when measuring the inside leg. On which side does sir dress? To which the answer is either left or right. Particularly revolting as it’s a child being measured for their prep school uniform. Don’t ask what a prep school is, I’m too poor and common and to know! Well done for saying, “taking the piss”! I am totally addicted to QI and have seen nearly every episode. It stands for 'Quite Interesting'. You get points for a correct answer, AND an answer that, although incorrect, is redeemed by it being 'quite interesting'. Any urban myths used by panelists are highlighted by the sound of the QI klaxon and debunked. The screen behind them flashes the urban myth too. Stephen left after Series M, and replaced by Sandi (Sandra) Toksvig, who was born in Denmark. Interestingly, Sandi recorded her first show as presenter on her birthday. She's a presenter, writer, author, campaigner, advocate and before QI was a presenter on the BBC radio panel show 'The News Quiz'. For a good intro clip of her, I suggest 'Sandi's Anecdotes'. She was in NASA's Mission Control for Neil Armstrong's landing on the Moon.

The studio audience is actually around 600 people and there is a very long waiting list for tickets!
