Bee Man Vs Bees On Tree & Inside Wall Of House

Showed up to perform a bee removal in the wall of this house & the homeowner points out a swarm in his tree. In this video I shake the swarm & show footage of the hive in the wall. The colony of bees in the wall had definitely swarmed, evidenced by several swarm cells or rather "queen cells."

I try to be very observant to their motives & dealing with bees when it’s warm out is much better than in cooler weather. In cooler weather say below 60F they tend to cluster more to generate heat. Fooling with tightly clustered bees that are cold or wet is a recipe for an azz whooping. Fortunately for me it stays well above 60F for most of the year here in southeast, Louisiana. Great to see you here commenting btw. ✌️🐝

I am greatly enjoying your bee videos. I live in Phoenix AZ and I am interested in bee keeping and maybe bee removal as I get some experience. I know you are busy but if you get a chance to answer these questions on one of your future videos I'd appreciate it. 1. How do you know whether or not youre dealing with Africanized bees or not? 2. Is it possible to smoke bees too much/does is stress them out 3. I bought honey on the side of the road here and it tasted amazing. Why is it so much better than store bought? Some store bought stuff is good but some has an odd taste. I hope you keep making bee videos for many years. 👊

@JPthebeeman Жыл бұрын
If you feed them, they will come. 😉 all kidding aside, if you feed them a bunch during a dearth, such as late summer you could wind up with bees from several colonies, all coming in to feed at once. That’s when things can get very interesting! Robbing bees can become very aggressive, just keep that in mind & be on the lookout. I’ve done many removal jobs late summer here where robbing bee activity was so great I couldn’t see what I was doing & had to wait until dark to finish up. Robber bees will return to their colonies right before dark, so keep that in mind if things ever get out of hand over at your place. Best wishes. ✌️🐝

Likely zero to just a few but likely zero. Bee swarms are usually gentle. As long as you know what you are doing & understand whether they’re going to sting or not (experience is the best teacher) most times than not a person can shake a bee swarm without getting lit up. FYI: a dry swarm is a swarm of bees that have used up all of their energy reserves & when you shake them they will sting the ever living heck out of you, been there done that. Moral of the story is when in doubt, tread lightly.

Too bad you didn't have more footage of that cutout. Did you make up different nucs with all those swarm cells? Or were they already stung by an emerging queen?
@JPthebeeman
@JPthebeeman Жыл бұрын
I actually don’t recall what I did but know their numbers were down due to swarming & most of the cells had already emerged. I can tell you this though, when making splits or whatever using queen cells, I like to place no less than two queen cells in the set up as there’s always a chance one cell is a dud. I’ve opened many queen cells that had unknowingly hatched, workers moved in to clean the cell but were sealed in by their sisters before they could get out. Those would obviously be duds.
@sbkd00mz
@sbkd00mz Жыл бұрын
JP, how often will a swarm like that have more than one young queen? If that happens, do the swarms ever split up to support each queen?
@JPthebeeman
@JPthebeeman Жыл бұрын
For some odd reason I don’t usually get a bunch of swarms with multiple queens. In my experience, a swarm will usually pick one queen to be loyal to. The queen they don’t pick they wind up balling & killing. I’ve removed colonies from structures many times that had just swarmed & have caught multiple queens on many occasions, not uncommon to run across 4-5 virgin queens in this situation. The most I have ever caught was nine but I think weather had held them up from swarming because I also caught what surely had to be a mated queen.

They are usually remarkably docile when in swarm mode, and sting only in the last extreme because they instinctively know it kills them. Bee stingers are barbed and stick in the skin. When they pull away, the stinger is ripped out and they essentially bleed to death. Short answer, no, he usually doesn't get stung much if he's careful, and JP always seems to be careful.
