Cliff was far from good. He started out as a public employee who used and abused his position to witch hunt the Ewings and Ewing Oil because of a bunch of garbage his daddy told him that turned out to be nothing but bullcrap. Along the way he had an affair with a married woman who happened to be the wife of the focus of all his resentment and revenge for no better reason than to try and hurt his sworn enemies. He was handed the leadership of Wentworth T&D by his long lost mother (who btw completely ignored the birthright of the daughter she raised) and he promptly embezzled $4 million dollars from the company. The only reason he even had that piece of Ewing Oil property to replace that money was because he colluded with the corrupt Vaughn Leeland and others to take advantage of JR during a messy custody battle he was having with Sue Ellen. JR was dirty, JR was cruel, to say that JR was corrupt weakens the word, and JR was nasty but to claim that Cliff was good is completely laughable. And JR was not completely evil either, he did exhibit the capacity to show genuine love and affection for his parents and for his son and even in his own twisted way for Sue Ellen. He was by no means an ideal husband or man but then Sue Ellen was anything but an ideal wife and mother and Barns was just vile. I never thought much of Cliff but after he treated Afton like complete dirt when she was there for him no matter what I couldn't stand him. I'm glad that the new series for all it's flaws finally corrected the biggest flaw from the end of Dallas. Having JR lose Ewing Oil to Cliff Barnes was about the dumbest things I've ever seen written into a TV show. Ewing Oil wasn't just a name or a company it was a legacy from Jock, and no other company would have ever tempted JR to throw that away no matter how large it was. And Barnes would never have been smart enough to take it from him anyway.
