I think meetings are primarily only a good thing for drinkers because drinking is so ingrained into society anyways and being around other past alcoholics doesn’t really make alcohol any more available to you than if you didn’t go. That said even with alcohol it can be harmful to go to a meeting because the whole concept is to think about the substance when really you should be putting it out of your mind. Often some people at these things are still using and will enable you.

Do the meetings really help even if you just listen?

Maybe you should stop labelling yourself as a 'recovering heroin addict'. I don't imagine that's helping. You are what you are, and right now you are not an addict. But it's unlikely that you'd be screaming even if it's a bad trip, most everyone looks like they're in a coma for the duration of the trip and either come back having seen insane serenity and love, or insane destruction and hate- but rarely are you able to be screaming or even talking at all at a high enough dose regardless of how the experience is going. I've had mostly positive trips, but I still never directly recommend anyone try it- you need to be insanely humble and respectful or it'll backhand you in your psyche. With prescription amphetamines specifically, it gives you a glimpse at the ability to be the person you've always wanted to be. That's the issue I have with it. You're entire life comes together because of this drug, then the tolerance and dependency comes into play, and you always yearn for that productivity and personality that only a drug can provide. As my professor, Frank Seeburger, said, "Once you finish AA get the hell away from those people." I believe he wrote some interesting books on the philosophy of addiction.
@JoeBergFilm5 жыл бұрын
This is amazing. I would love to read that. I used NA and AA when I thought I needed it... And once I was educated of why I had an issue I never went back. My god they are so negative. I mean the whole "hi I'm Joe and I'm an addict, I've been sober for 30 years though" like move the fuck on. Unless you're an addictions worker.
@maciek81595 жыл бұрын
Joseph Edmundson What was the issue that kept you using? And I can’t stand people from NA. I use to go too and their very cliquey and just a lot of drama like high school. Lol only good part is hooking up with the bitches but that gets old
@JoeBergFilm5 жыл бұрын
@@maciek8159 I've had mass trauma to my body since I was like 12...19 broken bones, 6 surgeries, and ended with a subdural hematoma brain injury..so not only did I have doctors flooding me with mass opiates and benzos, I became chemically dependent due to destroying my natural receptors in my brain , from the initial injuries and not actually letting myself heal due to always being on medications. It got to its worst when I was introduced to a new doctor who was taken to court by the College institute of physicians for over prescribing...he had me on 8, 20mg oxycodone to start, with 6mg of clonazepam and 4 mg of dilaudid every day. Once I learned about the pharmaceutical industry and grew up I realized I've been medicated the entire time and never actually healed. I'm still tapering off methadone 2 years later ...down from 155mls to 18mls now. Its so fucking hard and I wish I tried another route but it was my brain chemicals that were warped and my depression, impulse etc was insane.

I'm surprised Joe has never tried mescaline. It's my favorite psychedelic hands down. It's harder to find compared to the others in my experience, but it doesn't come with the same anxiety and intensity while still getting you to the desired place. I know this is all subjective but anyone who is into that kind of thing needs to try it if the opportunity arises. Mescaline is fucking great

I love hearing recovery stories. These two sound full of themselves. I was an addict and it was a fine line I crossed. I could’ve been clean my entire life, things didn’t go as planned. No need to judge people that screwed up though. Doesn’t make you any better.
@aaronsmith48062 жыл бұрын
But you are an addict and understand it. I see why they don’t really get it. People in recovery are some of the best people I’ve ever met and some have a really painful arrogance and this “I’m better than you” attitude.
