The crash happend due to fatigue failure of the metal. These parts undergo heavily on cyclic/dynamic loads and that leads to material fatigue. If you look at the crack, we observe a brittle fracture which is the sudden, very rapid cracking under cyclic stresses where there is no evidence of ductility or plastic degradation before the fracture occurs. As a senior mechanical engineering student, I worked as a test engineer fatigue & strength at DAF Trucks ( a paccar company). I designed many test setup for cabin constructions parts to research whether fatigue occurs.

My Boxster has similar damage, but a lot worse. From what experience with it, mid-engine cars are not easy to lose traction, but when you do there is no way of keeping it on the road. So probably the car was raced and lost traction at some point and hit the wall with the rear. at least it's my guess.

Porsche Boxster that year have engine crank bearing problems. Fix is a total rebuild with Cer bearing install or new engine and as you may have figured out the fix is more $ than the Boxster retail value. Once you hear that main bearing noise you cant give them away. Well I guess you can part them out but that is about it.
@MrPabsUk5 жыл бұрын
I`m gonna guess it spun at speed, went backwards, NSR wheel hit a kerb, putting a pulling force on the arm that wasnt designed to be pulled, snapping it.. I`d check that tyre for structural damage too.. I`m a little concerned about the steering not being straight, there's no reason for that, other than the front suspension taking a hit too.. That thing really needs a chassis alignment check & then a proper suspension alignment adjust (Porsches are VERY sensitive to alignment, & very few people can do it properly).

I'm a first time viewer and wanted to let you know how thourily I enjoyed your Boxter video and all the work you had to do to rehab that vehicle..It had to have been an extremely challenging, exhausting situation with all that work!!! WOW!!!.. Another thing that, somehow, took me a long time to notice was the Sun Devil t -shirt you were wearing. With Tucson being my hometown, and also a U of alum, that somewhat annoyed me but thanks to modern psychiatric care with YEARS of therapy and education I have learned that all of you Devil's are not socially inept, backwoods perverts with missing teeth longing for a GOOD education ( along with the persistent rumor that you indeed have long tails!!). Despite having to overcome societal repression and educationall shortcomings you, at least outwardly, appear to be a thoughtful, intelligent and humorous young man. You are now doing exactly what I would have liked to have done for my life's worth, buying, repairing, driving and flipping cars. It's just too damn bad it took me 55 years to realize that!! I am now 63 with chronic back problems, two bum knees with bad feet that limits my range and amount of time I can stand so, unfortunately, I am unable to now pursue that type of work even as an avocation. In ending what was supposed to be a short note of thanking you for the video has, as is one of my tendencies, turned into a long discertation. Please continue to follow your passions in life. If you do you will be so happy to have discovered that you never had to work a day in your life!! Good luck to you all!! BEAR DOWN!!!

I have this exact car but mine is an S, best colour combo of Speed Yellow and Metropol blue roof and interior. Paid £5100 for her 3 and half years ago, use her everyday and guess what she is probably still worth that or a little more. In the same 3 years my modern Passat has depreciated probably as mush as the Porsche cost. On the other side of the coin the Passat has cost next to nothing to run and service. Porschey.... service, new front tyres, brembo discs and pads all round, new plugs and OEM coil packs £1200. SO what you save on depreciation you will probably spend on servicing and any repairs. I budget £1000 a year for these so its not bad. If your into burning petrol there isn't a better way than a Porsche

If you had marked that concentric adjustment bolt before loosening it you likely could have put it back on in the same orientation and wouldn't have to pay for an expensive 4-wheel alignment. Hmm... Also, does this model have the dreaded IMS bearing problem? That could run $2500 if you want to do preventive maintenance, or drive it and see if it fails; or maybe it's already been replaced.
