@@JSacadura hii which is better in which case ? chip grafting vs t-bud grafting.. u said chip is for root stock or twig 1 year (i suppose 2 years also), and t-budding ? i tried t-budding multiple times before, but all dried up.. oxydized (yellowish color at contact area ) and no fusing.. hence i gave up for as long till now.. always use cleft.. but cleft sometime has issue with joining.. the fork has a hole that accumulate rain water..
@JSacadura5 жыл бұрын
I don't like cleft graft for that reason - check my video on modified cleft graft (better healing). Regarding chip versus t-budding. I tend to use chip budding in the spring or early summer (well protected against dehydration). T-budding is a technique that is often best used later in the year (autumn).

Thx, I did my best to match one side of the cuts.
@JSacadura6 жыл бұрын
Don't try too hard to match the cambiums. Make sure they cross at some point and the grafts should take, if you protect the chips well for the first couple of weeks.

Hello! Do you using 1inch parafilm?
@JSacadura3 жыл бұрын
Yes. I prefer the 1 inch size. I can fold it to make it stronger when more pressure is needed and the larger size, covers more area of the scions and buds, so I find it easier to use.

Hi, thx for showing the grafting. Can I graft before I root the cuttings?
@JSacadura6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. Beware that you will need a robust rootstock (ideally one that is easy to root), so it can support the stress of grafting and rooting at the same time.
@mandychen98466 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. I’ve tried the bud grafting, but I’ve not been able to make the match size cut. I’ll practice some more.
@JSacadura6 жыл бұрын
The cuts don't need to match precisely. The cambiums must cross at some point, so the tissues can fuse together. When trying to match perfectly, sometimes its possible that they don't touch or cross at any point. With practice you will know when the cuts will work or not and readjust, if necessary.

Great demonstration @JSacadura. How long does it usually take for the new bud to start growing?
@JSacadura6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Tyler. It usually takes between 2-4 weeks, if it's already a well developed bud when it's grafted (a but in dormant wood from the previous year). Some underdeveloped buds may stay dormant for a full season and only wake up next spring. With green buds, like i'm using for the demonstration, it depends on the time of grafting - about the same as the dormant one's, if grafted in Spring or they also only start growing next Spring, if grafted in the Autumn. You can see real grafts (not demonstrations) developing in my other video on Chip-Bud Grafting - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKfdkGqumLyEabs&t

I have the good fortune of having very good craftsman in our country (there's a small village in the north of Portugal, Trás-os-Montes region, village of Palaçoulo) which is famous for the knives they make and that sell them cheap. The one i'm using in the video, it's also handmade by craftsman Gilberto Ferreira from Aveleda. A similar one is sold here - www.navalhasmirandesas.com/index.php/produtos/facas-gilberto-ferreira-aveleda/product/92-navalha-gilberto-ferreira-aveleda-de-enxertia-ref-ngfa011 Another website where these types of grafting knives are sold - www.navalhas.pt/ search word - enxertia

If you were to root that sample branch you grafted, will it work? Or is this only ideal for rooted plants? Conversely, can you still root the donor branch with the missing nodes?
@JSacadura6 жыл бұрын
It could work, if you graft to a robust and vigorous cutting. But the added stress of trying to fuse the tissues, added to the need to produce roots, would probably be too much for the cutting that has only the energy stored within it. That's why the air layer works better, as it uses the energy of the whole plant.
@JSacadura6 жыл бұрын
Also, you can try to root the donor branch but the wound of the missing nodes will prove too much and it usually dies. If its a long enough cutting i remove only the two lower buds, cut it above the wounds and root the rest.

Hi,should it only be the skin of the chip or along with some wood?
@JSacadura4 жыл бұрын
In chip-budding you do take some wood with the bud. In T-budding you usually, only peel the "skin" along with the bud.

@JSacadura5 жыл бұрын
Hola, Dex. 1.
@JSacadura5 жыл бұрын

I dont get it? Hiw gonna new leaf goo tro the tape?
@JSacadura5 жыл бұрын
Its a special waxy tape. The new buds have no difficulty to break through it, if you cover them with only one layer of the stuff. And the tape protects the buds until they are ready to start growing.
