The Cowboys’ win over SF was the only time an Eastern Division team defeated a Western Division team in 1965 - (except for the Pro Bowl game).

And how significant it was for the Cowboys as a franchise at the time. With the win, it ended a five-game losing streak that started the season at 2-5. Won five of the last seven games to finish 7-7 and becoming the first non-losing season in franchise history. Wouldn't have another losing season until 1986.

The Cowboys and Giants both finished 7-7 tied for 2nd behind the Browns, the Cowboys got the Playoff Bowl because they beat the Giants twice

This was an important season because it was the first season that wasn't a losing record.

Yes indeed. The team started in 1960 0-11-1. They had no draft the first year. A team made up of mostly cast-offs, and washouts. There was scattered talent. Don Meredith, Don Perkins, Bob Lilly(Cowboys first draft choice in 1961) and Chuck Howley(FA from Chicago). In 1963 they looked to be making some progress. Then came the JFK killing. it put a damper on everything. Because they were Dallas they were booed everywhere they played. Then came 1964. The team changed it's colors to what we know and love today. They had a decent draft. Including a future 10th rounder named Roger Staubach. That year they beat the defending champion Chicago Bears. The cast-offs were fading out and real talent was coming in on both sides of the ball. 1965 was their 1st .500 season. It would be followed by an incredible run of 20 straight winning seasons. HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS

@@michaelleroy9281 The team was practicing not too far from where JFK got hit. It shocked many when the NFL went ahead with the games that weekend. The Dallas Cowboys were unwelcome in Cleveland. I have an excellent book called Cowboys Have Always Been My Heroes. It's a well detailed story of the Franchise through players and coaches perspectives. Almost nobody on the team wanted to play football that Sunday in Nov 1963.
