Funny thing is, that's my dad in the GSU mascot uniform lmao. I graduated from Louisiana Tech University, which is right down the road from GSU.... a few years back.....but my younger sister now goes to JSU.....Dad was pissed about that lol.

I have for many years confronted this fight back in 1988. I didn’t realize for some time this man was even fighting me. I wanted to dance and have a great time just for show. I never meant for this to end up this way. My fellow Nupe didn’t know my intent. Yea it didn’t go so well for me true. But look over 30 + years later we are still watching it. Thanks GSU for all the love you all showed me while I was Grambling. Best years of my life Foshow. I am no longer Psycho just Bernard now. But you all know like I know the best Mascot in the land is still GSU. Trust Ex-Psycho out.

The BEST HBCU mascot will always be Wavee Dave. I am a JSU Alum and spent 4 years seeing the engaging personality of the late David Chambers perform as "Wavee Dave" and then engage with others as a great person on campus (outside of the uniform). He was our mascot for at least 16 years and the City of Jackson even named a street after him a few years ago. 3 years ago, I was on a business phone call in MN and was taking to a Black East Coast business partner, who asked where I was from - since my accent did not sound MN. I told him MS and that I was a JSU grad. He was like "What was that tiger that y'all had? He was great!" So even other universities far away thought that Wavee Dave was a great mascot...even decades later. RIP Dave💙🐯💙

David "Wavey Dave" Chambers - the JSU Tiger Mascot - is just as beloved to JSU, Boom, & the football fans as Walter Payton is. Dave spent at least 16 or more years being the mascot...through grad school...through working a regular career job, etc. Even as he developed kidney disease issues, he started a Baby Tiger mascot team that would perform with him...and in his absence when his illness had him too sick to perform.😢 He was THEE best mascot we ever had...from the gymnastic flips to the loving way he greeted fans...especially kids...in the stands. Even last year I was on a work call with an HBCU alum from another school... when I told him I was a JSU alum, he was like "Yo, what was the name of that dancing tiger y'all had. He was something else!" RIP Dave!❤
