I do like having dedicated tools at each work station so I don't have to run all over the shop to get things set up for a job, lazy or smart I don't know but I do wind up with a lot of duplicate tools. Thanks James very informative.

So true about those cheap set screws. Learned that lesson the hard way. Now I always replace them 1st thing.

Hey James, enjoyed the video. Those quick change posts and tool holders are one of the greatest upgrades one can do foe their lathe, and lots of holders makes very job ready to go on short notice. i\I too keep the handy wren by thelathe for those screws, cheers!

Good install. All I’ve ever used is clone QCTP, never had a moments problem. However since I use B size tooling most my turning tools are 1” shanks that I’ve dovetailed and direct mount to the post. Also I made a lot of boring bar holders my self so I could use them. On all my home made tooling I use threading rod an made my own adjusters.

James, maybe send those guano set screws to Mr. Easterling for inclusion, a FEW at a time, in his melts. That way, the garbage will be recycled into something useful.

Using the Bruce Whitham method of threading! Been doing that when I first observed it about 4 years ago.

I drilled and tapped the center hole on top of my tool post stud, put a ratchet wrench on the binding nut, dropped a washer down, then fasten it with a cap screw, trapping the wrench on the nut. Little flip of the ratchet's direction lever, and the wrench is always there, but never in the way.

James, thanks for the presentation. I have a question . . . Where the slot length on the compound is longer than the tool post is square, would there be any advantage to rigidity if the shoe to the tool post was made to the same length as the compound slot?
