Totally agree with Harold! No way Soto is worth 700 for just hitting. I keep on saying, Ohtani is the ONLY player with the ginormous and understandably so exeption. Great hitter, great pitcher, marketable (way above anyone else), etc. So yeah good luck if someone pays that. He's a Dodger if he agrees to their terms and conditions, not his. Period.

Trust me when I say this: Even with Soto playing every day, he will not generate the $ to justify a team paying him 700. That is the difference, Ohtani can. Why? Ohtani is 1 of 1, no one like him.

In other words, what the Dodgers made not only paid for his deferred $70M per year salary. They net $50M on top of that. To give you an idea, the Angels made only about $25M each year off Ohtani. That's the power of Dodgers marketing. There is no way Soto would even get close to $25M. He's a great player, but he's not popular. Even if Ohtani can no longer pitch, he can play outfield as he did in Japan or remain at DH. His sponsorship will not be affected very much, if at all, because he's a national hero in Japan.
