the thing with the “would you raise a boy/girl differently” is that it’s equity not equality. equality is everything being exactly the same but equity is it being how it needs to be to better suit the individual. if i had a son i would teach him to be respectful of everyone, but to not let anybody tell him it’s okay to harm/upset women just because of gender. just like i would teach a girl it’s not okay to be rude to boys. but i would also teach her it’s not okay to bully girls for looks. it depends how you look at the situation.
@koalakrys27613 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's how I see it. Equality is treating every gender exactly the same (Which is actually extremely unhelpful because depending on your gender, you WILL have different needs and experiences in this world) Equity is making sure you're doing your best to accommodate all genders so that they're all at the same level. Like a very hypothetical example of Equality vs Equity would be making sure all your kids have access to tampons- except your son doesn't need tampons so it wouldn't make sense, so you should be giving all the tampons to your daughter instead of your son. Or making sure all your kids have binders- except your son and daughter have no need for them while your gender non conforming child does, so you give THEM all the binders.

I totally agree. If you form a group of people who support every religion and do not discriminate against any one and consider one above other. Including Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Jewish everyone. Like I’ve always supported the equality part of feminism, but her view on stressing that woman are more superior has the same potential to basically do the same thing as saying “men should rule the world”. @Loveamandapatrice5 жыл бұрын
* screams * I said what I said because a lot of people use the excuse that babies can be adopted as opposed to abortion. The fact is that not all (I would even even argue that most) children have the luxury of being adopted into loving supportive homes. So putting a blanket statement making it appear to be absolute is extremely misleading. I didn’t once say or imply or believe that children in foster homes would have been better off aborted. BUT what I do believe is that no one should be able tell anyone what’s best for their life if they were to become pregnant.
@olivernice73615 жыл бұрын
@@laural4739 I was in foster care for 17 years (my entire life) and I KNOW that if I was aborted I would not have known, but my mother's life would have been much better if she was not forced into having me and then putting me into foster care. The experiences I had in foster care were traumatic (severe sexual abuse/rape and emotional abuse) and the system did not support me during those times and then when my foster parents kicked me out at 17, I had NO support. I am now 23 and I am struggling to pick up the pieces of my life and I now have no living biological family and no longer have foster parents in my life. I am struggling so, so much and I am all I have. I inherited illnesses from my mother, I have PTSD from my childhood abuse, I can not work and I am struggling to study. I KNOW I am a burden on the system and although I am grateful for my life, I know there are many others like me. And I know the pressure it puts on society. And I know how hard my mother struggled being faced with the reality of having to give birth to a child she did not want. I often believe I am the exception when it comes to foster kids being swallowed by the system and turning into nothing because I do not want to be a statistic, but my GOD the obstacles I have had to overcome don't seem worth it for all the damage that the forced birth of me caused. There are MANY reasons why someone can not have a child and many more reasons why someone would not be ok with putting a child into foster care.

@Juliana Silva Actually, the question literally said 'EVERY woman SHOULD be a feminist'. That's not really the same as 'I want more women to be feminists'. Of course it was worded provocatively due to the nature of the video and they maybe just meant the latter, but I get how she came to her conclusion. If you were to go through with that statement, you would actually have to force some people. Also, the sentence they used implies that people should have a certain opinion solely based on their gender, when according to my personal definition of feminism (as there are different kinds of it), gender should just not be important at all and especially not the only reason for someone to do or think something.
@melonitastic5 жыл бұрын
@Juliana Silva Actually I think the last part of your comment is really interesting, because it kind of sounds like you're looking down on women, who do not consider themselves feminists/like you are mad at them? Do you believe they are undeserving of the rights they have, because they are not fighting for them themselves? Correct me if I misunderstood your tone, that's always really hard over the internet and English is not my native language. About your question: To me, the sentence 'Every woman should be a feminist' just implies that. As I have said in my comment, I think that statement is different from 'I want more women to be feminists', which is the phrasing you used. I also would like more women to be feminist, or at least not look down upon other feminists, so that the movement would be stronger. But the word choice 'all ... should be' just has a certain connotation to me. As I said: If we were to turn the world into one where that phrase is valid, meaning a world in which every woman would be a feminist, it would, as of right now, mean to force that role onto people, when in my head feminism is about not forcing roles onto people, as I said, based on gender. But I see how that could be interpreted as linguistic pettiness, which maybe isn't appropriate since I am not a native speaker.

I feel like the American definition of ‘flirting’ is really different to the European one. All the examples they gave were commenting ‘you are beautiful/look nice’ or catcalling. @@verryberryman7655 yeah, that’s the same in Europe. Someone who’s a stranger saying ‘you’re beautiful’ kind of as an opener or out of the blue would be considered.... a bit much? Like quite full on. If you are a great leader by all means lead regardless of your sex. I believe that women with the qualifications to be leaders should be given the same chances as men. As for abortion we all are here today because we weren't aborted and were given the chance to live. You are here giving your opinions and views because you weren't cut out into pieces. Shouldn't that mean something? I can understand rape, premature age, and even health complications but to just terminate a child due to recklessness is not fair. The fetus/baby/however you wanna call it has it's own body too. It has it's own dna. And in alot of cases it fits if not most all of the criterias of a living organism so u can't say its dead or not living. And if u actually take the time to research what actually happens to babies when they're killed during later trimesters you'd understand where people are coming from.

@@pgan Technically not true. I mean, your definition isnt off. But in reality it isn't actually equality. It is equality of the basis of WOMEN. @@aff291 The other thing is imo she misinterpreted feminism. It's not about just ensuring women can do and think whatever and that's the end of it. Don't tell her what to think but reform of the aspects of society that create such a contradictory mindset.

It's actually pretty deep. And she was right about feminism nowadays. And I know a f*-ton of women. All the feminists I encounter are *humanists* -- with compassion being the underlying thread. There's a bizarre misconception online that being pro-women necessitates being anti-men, and it does not. Also, the amount of issues that women suffer (typically at the hands of men) is *staggering.* I understand that men have issues, too. But women are, by and large, the victims. @ItsMeVolatility5 жыл бұрын
Kylie Jenner I understand why your experiences with extreme feminism would affect how you view the movement; it totally makes sense. Regardless of if your ex-friend calls herself a feminist, her statements are sexist, through and through. It’s unfortunate that misandrists use feminism to boost their awful narrative, and it gives everyone in the group a bad name by extension. I don’t consider those extreme and hateful people as a legitimate part of the community, as they don’t want equality; they want revenge. Nowadays it’s actually pretty dicey to openly call yourself a feminist, as people immediately jump to that stereotype (which again, I completely get). I try not to let that impede on my beliefs by setting a good example of what the (first world) movement should be. There are so many double standards that negatively affect men, and you best believe I acknowledge them when it suits the conversation, the same that I would do for double standards against women. Casually, mind you, as I’m not the political type who goes on those tirades lol. I think the “feminism” term is still quite important though, because in third world countries, they’re often a century behind in women’s (and other minorities’) rights. The movement needs to be female-centric over there. While over in Canada, we can fight to rid the inequalities on both sides, because we’ve made so much progress to where girls and guys have equal rights. If it weren’t for that, I don’t think I would apply myself to the label. Not sure why I wrote a whole novel explaining my views lol. Just wanted to say that the toxic mentality some women have is definitely not what most of us approve of. Not me at least! And I hope to be a part of getting rid of that stigma by not being a sexist asshole while still calling myself a feminist. Cheers! :)

yo dudes honestly, being hostile to her ideas dont make things easier as well. PLUS, the 6 vs 1 series is all about MAKING people show their hostility and point out who´s the 'outsider' so I´d say, despite finding her behaviour obnoxious on the meat eater vs vegans video, that she would not be so aggressive and hard on others´ opinions on this one. On that video they were ENCOURAGED to disbelief each other. This one´s all about acceptance and understanding.

im white myself and it was not meant to shade white girls WHATSOEVER. BUT LET BLACK WOMEN HAVE THEIR MOMENT PLEASE!! they really deserve it, i know many of them are still being discriminated which is DISGUSTING, so i just wanted to remind them that they‘re genuinely beautiful and should be appreciated way more! i am proud of what they‘ve been through - now its their time to shine 👸🏿👸🏾👸🏽

I think the age range should have been more diverse. There's only one woman who appears to be close to 50 and the rest seem definitely under 35... I would have appreciated seeing at least one "senior" woman around the age of 70 or 80 - one who lived through the struggles for women's equality in the 1960s and 70s...

@@MoronBoshi I said "someone who lived through the struggles for women's equality", e.g. already an adult during that time period, not someone who was born in the 1960s. Being born in the 1960s myself, I'm well aware of how old we children of the 1960s are ;-)

@Tro Ivas Does anyone really likes being catcalled tho? In my opinion it isnt a compliment. If you would like to let me know you think i look nice or whatever, dont cat call, just walk up to me and tell me. Cat calling feels objectiving and makes me uncomfortable
@attackonmadoka17765 жыл бұрын
Tro Ivas you‘ve never been catcalled, have you?
@akeemrollins23275 жыл бұрын
@Tro Ivas Catcalling is pretty much yelling at someone about how they are attractive and you wanna hit on the sidewalk. it is kinda weird, regardless of how you feel about it. walking up to the person is not catcalling. they are different, bruh.
