From a European perspective it is always bizarre to hear Americans decrying a very basic social system as "communism". A decent minimum wage, national health insurance and labour unions are completely normal to most European countries and that certainly does not make them communist. Outside of the American bubble, these things are considered basic human rights. It's nice to see that Gen Z, growing up in a more connected world, recognizes this.

Every generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it.
@johannesziaether39163 жыл бұрын
So true. But we actually evolve with every generation so the next generation is technically more advanced and intelligent than us because they know all what we know and more. On the other hand, older generation has already experienced life, so they are wiser than the new generation it's just that not all their values will work because societies tend to change with time, so while younger generation should absolutely listen to the older generation, they should also work on creating a better world.

I mean they're not wrong, gen zs are the most educated gen yet because education is no longer seen as a privilege compared to the previous generations. As I was growing up (Gen X) my mom (Boomer) was really clear that BB really were a very privileged generation - that there were so many of them, corporations and governments would always do what they want. That our media and products would always be marketed towards them and they would always be the dominant social force. I think maybe most Gen Xers kind of just accepted this. We were sort of the proud "Loser" generation, who had low ambition in some ways, "Slackers", coming of age during the recession of the 90s, in the shadow of this massive, vibrant, powerful, wealthy Boomer generation. Although we seem to have ended up ok, maybe we just had really low expectations.

I was blessed to have grandparents like bill… my grandfather told me one time when I was younger (I didn’t really understand how big of a deal it was until I got older) that he didn’t understand what was wrong with gay marriage. His literal words were “if they love each other like me and your grandmother do, then i don’t get what the big deal is”. And that was around the time Obama had just became president, so gay marriage wasn’t legalized and social media wasn’t a thing, so he didn’t have anything to really sway his opinion, he genuinely felt that way. I say this to say that there are nonjudgmental “old” people out there… more than what we may think!

I was born in 1980 and my generation was the one that began the movement about climate change. So nothing you said has any validity to it. My generation was the last before technology became the go to for everything. I'm a boomer (albeit late one) and don't feel very connected to boomers. We were toddlers or in grade school during the best of economic times, saw the economy tank in the 1970s (but weren't part of it), and came of age in the 1980s. We saw the Berlin Wall come down, the Soviet Union dissolve, AIDS go from being a disease that was a sure death sentence to one that could be managed, major stock market crashes ('87, '08), awareness of global warming (but with a big failure to act), and the decline of the US economy and standard of living. I feel for young people today. I've always felt that the US should look at other countries that have a better economy and standard of living for it's citizens and learn from them, rather than thinking that "we are the greatest county in the world" and we're somehow better than they are because our democracy is older.
