Personally, I think the enforced false civility has a lot to do with why that guy got applauded. Because Ben has used that exact tactic during debates, while bemoaning the lack of civility in politics, and stormed out of interviews asking questions he didn't like. This was the first time (to my knowledge) that Ben has had to deal with being on the receiving end in a format he did not in some way have control over. As someone who disagrees with almost every political position Ben has ever held, it's both frustrating and satisfying to see at once.

To assume that children who crossed the border and are released to an adult, results in zero incidents of child sex trafficking, is based in ignorance. Yes we should assume the worse, when the welfare of a child is at stake. When we are talking about a child who crosses a border alone, who is then released to an adult, that child is easily exploited. It is not about some fanciful thinking. The US state department state that child sex trafficking is a pervasive and underreported crime, and one of the most complex forms of child exploitation. So it makes sense that you would mandate a follow up to ensure the welfare of the child is being taken care of.

I was born in Poland, after applying for years we finally got approval to come here legally. We lived in the South side of Chicago for a couple of years while my mom cleaned offices and my dad worked in a meat processing factory. We had absolutely nothing, after 15+ years of being here we reached the middle class. I was the first in my family to go to college (ofc we had to use student loans), and my sister was the second one. It baffles me how people preach this "privilege" that white people have, and ignore the hard work that goes into creating something out of yourself. As an immigrant to an immigrant, I hope you continue with your success.

First, congratulations on becoming a citizen of the United States! Second, and more to the point that the woman was trying to make in the video is that an Asian who has legally migrated into the United States through a legal process is amazing for how far we've come as a country. You were able to do something lawfully that all Asians were not allowed to do at some point in the past - for decades - simply because it was against the law for any Asian to migrate into the United States. That's a privilege, and a great one. No one is saying you grew up privileged, simply that you had a privilege that other Asians didn't in the past. It wasn't even a question or conversation at the time, it was just the law. No Asians were allowed to enter the United States for any reason during this ban: to work, to live, to travel, to see family - even if they lived in the United States permanently and traveled out of country during this time, they would not be allowed back into the country, period. So sad.

People seem to have forgotten what a debate is. A debate is an exchange of ideas to reach a deeper understanding through a conversation. This was def not a debate, they just went for the win, interrupting the real conversations by rising their flags. Debates are becoming a battle to win or lose, without any effort to understand the other person'sm perspective.
@roy_hks2 ай бұрын
That’s not what a debate is, what you’re describing is a discussion. Edit: Discussion: “consideration of a question in open and usually informal debate” Debate: “a contention by words or arguments” with sense 1a being “a regulated discussion of a proposition (see PROPOSITION entry 1 sense 1b) between two matched sides” (Merriam Webster)
@AzkekBear2 ай бұрын
@@roy_hks here's the literal definition of a debate: a formal discussion on a particular topic in a public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing arguments are put forward. Soooo yeah

@roy_hks Yes, you are correct that his understanding of a debate is incorrect. However, it is really irresponsible to just state this without pointing out that this event was not a debate. It was most definitely a war with no respect for allowing both sides to be heard. Unfortunately, many of today's youth believe that if they cry loud and long, regardless of truthful content, they win. Much of this comes from mommy & daddy giving in while raising them. Much of them represent a very weak generation. Respect is certainly not a part of their core values. Fortunately, we can rest assured that they will likely not be accepted in the employment ranks of leadership that will have much effect on our society. In the meantime, they will simply serve as a bad example of how to raise a productive, responsible & respective young person. And yes, it's very tough to watch. Keep the faith...

@@stevesweeton131 I completely agree that the conversation in the video was not a “proper” debate. I however do not believe it has anything to do with today’s youth. Idealism, bad manners and a lack of self control have always been typical for the youth, no matter the generation.
@roy_hks2 ай бұрын
@@AzkekBear 1. That’s Oxford, not the American standard Merriam Webster. 2. The definition you put forward ends with “and which usually ends with a vote” indicating a debate usually has winners and losers. 3. Merriam Webster’s primary definition is “a contention by words or arguments” 4. “to reach a deeper understanding through a conversation” is not mentioned in either dictionary’s definition, not even anything close to it.

This is how kids are being raised and especially once they get to college they just get absolutely brainwashed. I’m 32 and somehow in the past 15 years we’ve stopped teaching how to have a debate respectfully and now the loudest person in the room wins. As long as you’re loud enough and have a sarcastic mixed with condescending attitude, they lose.

exactly. like when Ben Shapiro says there's no kids suffering from hunger in the United States. or that school lunches won't help kids who are hungry and instead should be taken from their families and put into the foster care system, which would literally cost more money and be more destructive to his entire idea of "the family". not in this video, in one of his own videos

@@travm5540 I'm saying that if they kicked people off the show for being emotional or steamrolling the lone debater in a conversation, a lot of the MAGAs from the previous surrounded episode would have been kicked out.
