The custody segment was so bad all around. Terrible points from both sides. Immediately giving both parents 50/50 is a horrible idea and so is insinuating that men don't actually love their children. Where's the nuance? Edit for the people replying: automatic 50/50 is a bad idea because not all parents deserve or want that. It should be a case by case basis based on the material facts of each situation and not a given that you get custody regardless of your capability to care for your children. I also agree with the people who have replied that men statistically don't care as much. I have seen the divorce stats and am aware that most men who give up custody do it of their own accord. I was merely suggesting that it's a bad idea to use that as precedent to be uncharitable to all men, and that I do not think she was particularly rhetorically affective or concise in getting her point across. If you didn't already know what she was talking about you would assume she was just hating on men.

Big facts. Personal experience will always be the main driver of someone's personal belief system. Debates like this are just efforts to push those opinions onto others and it doesn't work. I do however feel that when well-informed induvials come on to a public platform and share actual facts to back their proposed solutions, it can be very informative and enlightening if only for awareness sake. I do NOT believe that Jubilee is attempting to simulate the former, this particular episode was definitely curated for abrasive style entertainment more than a proper level of productive discourse.

at 9:10 she really said that men have the audacity to go out and provide for the wife and kids (family) and then actually want to be a part of said family. but why should he be a part of a family he doesn't know, since he has been away providing the means for that family to live properly and be a family. when she used that logic as an argument, and no one batted an eye i know the way society looked at men and our rights was way past gone. smh

The dismissal of the custody argument was wild.. I have an immediate relative who recently had a child and unfortunately the mother is mentally ill. The lawyers are telling him that it's not even worth fighting for full custody, and 50/50 is off the table too because "a baby is too reliant on the mother." They said he can have 2 hr supervised visits per week if he pays $700/month in child support. The whole situation is driving him to depression and all he wants is to see his kid, but I'm sure everyone will tell him how bad of a father he is for being "absent"

14:30 What does that even mean “masculinity isn’t a real concept.” A concept is an idea. Masculinity is a term that defines traits manifested by people, and is the direct inverse of Femininity. That isn’t a topic that should trigger anyone, it’s just objective reality that we have those terms to describe certain qualities.

It's a shame that because of the false dichotomy posed in most of the prompts, both sides feel the need to convince each other through statistics or other examples that their sides life on average is harder or more unfair in some particular way and that it is a zero-sum game. This narrative makes it difficult to acknowledge each others suffering, problems and obstacles which is an indispensable aspect of the process of healing and ultimately working towards solutions.
