As usual, you minimize men's experience in MeToo The man is likely going to be arrested, handcuffed, interrogated, have to arrange a lawyer, and the money for it, stress about how his life is going to unfold, and endure the stress of a pending case over months and years. All while society will see him as a predator. While the victim will give her statement, likely get emotional support through it, and likely feel some sense of virtue as she gets attention and pity. And if he gets convicted.. well, then things go really bad. Compare that to the "victim's" experience, even including the most common "sexual assault", in which it's likely a date situation and the woman was unhappy with some aspect of her experience. Who do you think has it worse? Would you rather go on a romantic date that was disappointing, or have 3-10 years of your life upended?

So because one person says one thing that makes that person less then a person... Peoples words always mean something, they can be wrong or right or somewhere between. But saying someone does not have any credibility because of one thing they say is extremely ignorant. I do disagree with most of what she said, but that doesn't mean what she said doesn't have value and that you can not learn from it. They have there perspective and now that this is so big they can’t speak out without being shut down. Sure the feminist movement was important yes but that was a few decades ago. @soup I understand that completely. Being a victim myself, I'm in no way attempting to undermine or downplay anyone speaking out. Anon No, this is from the fact that in a speech she gave at the Ms. Foundation for Women’s Gloria Awards and Gala she said that she once had sex with an intoxicated man, who was so drunk he blacked in out of consciousness and was unable to give consent, because she was frustrated with how little attention men gave her in college. She said that moment gave her a feeling of “Self-Worth” and she even sex shamed her victim in that same speech. According to the rules of her university at the time, this would be defined as Sexual Harassment and she could have faced expulsion or worse. This could also be illegal under Maryland State law, however it is oddly specific stating that having sex with an intoxicated person is only counts as rape as long as vaginal penetration takes place in which the person taking advantage of the situation would be charged with it. From what she said, she could be charged with sexual assault but it was vague so it would be hard to bring to court. If she were a man doing this to a woman, she would absolutely face rape charges but since she’s a woman, people don’t care. People even thought that part of the story was empowering and funny even though they would never say that if she were man.

This sort of thing happens to (I believe) every movement ever. Feminism, BLM and even Climate Change movements all started out with pure good intentions, but many start to commit criminal acts and do so under the name of these movements. One good example is how BLM rioters (I called them so because they were not peaceful) and even looters were damaging property and even loot unprotected shops while the protests were ongoing. Like in CNN headquarters, rioters broke their property and at one point even threw hazardous items (some even blowing up like a firework) at police who were stopping them from entering the building. I know these movements had genuine intentions to call for change for the benefit of society, but there are those who commit crime under their names and thus ruin their reputation.

There are some topics where 'middle ground' boils down to a literal opinion and supporters of that opinion. But above all, respect and communication. MeToo is a very personal, sensitive and complex topic that really challenges who we are as a species, what we're capable of, and what we can do. Getting agreements just like that seems so farfetched. There was respect in this video and I think that's great middle ground itself. At least they tried. We don't have to stop trying.

I've been sharing my story of grooming and rape for years. I didn't need Me Too to feel validated. Growing up where I did, it was thought that many girls and even boys experienced abuse at some point. The culture one is raised in can play a HUGE part in how they feel internally about their trauma. Getting out of that as I grew up helped me understand that it's NOT okay and it should NEVER be accepted ... So I'm glad we are addressing this, I think there are better ways of doing so, without the feeling that all men are bad, that it's them (men) vs us (women). I'm trying to raise four sons with my husband of 17 years. I am raising gentlemen in a very hostile world.

This is such a nuanced and for the lack of a better term Middle Ground type of topic. I think it’s extremely useless to just have people get into an Anti side and a Pro side and debate each other. Except for a few exceptions (obviously), Anti people don’t think sexual assault is not a problem and Pro people don’t think the movement is flawless (They’re all basically somewhere in the middle). The conversation needs to be about how to improve the flaws in the movement. The separating into 2 sides is just taking the attention away from what really needs to be done, and putting a lot of people off what could be a really productive movement for humanity.

Two of my bestfriends from high school were in a relationship for the majority of our time there, but ended up having a really messy break up while we were in college. A little while after the fact, the female began speaking on abuse that she faced in the relationship. I've had talks with my male friend who was involved about my conflictions & he seemed understanding & accepting of some wrongdoing, while not to the extent that the female says he's done. It sucks because I don't know who to trust. All I have is their testimonies & my personal experiences with them to judge by. I feel like I've lost two friends, because I worry that I might wanna support my guy friend just because we were bros, but I also want to believe that I could trust his word, as he considers me like a brother. Let's look at Johnny Depp & Amber Heard. All she had was a photo of a bruise, 2 witnesses of aftermath & her word & majority of people instantly believed her. This led to Johnny Depp losing roles, most notably Jack Sparrow, and his reputation being somewhat destroyed. Whereas Amber became the face of MeToo & has been featured in blockbuster film. Yet when Johnny came forward with multiple photos, texts, videos & audio majority of people still didn't believe him. It is only after an audio of Amber admitting to being physical that a lot of people have changed their tune. We all know the fact that is "It is impossible to win an argument against ignorant people"

@Rose Jones Are you a mind reader? Abusive relationships do have two types. Physical and emotional. Physical can be proven with evidence. Emotional is a different beast. I have been the victim of both. Unless you can read minds, you can not say that someone is emotionally abused. There are signs that suggest that they are, but it is very hard to prove. Anyone that has been emotionally abused doesn't want to be in the spotlight. They don't want to be the face of anything. If they do, that puts a huge red flag up saying they are lying. I don't really know the case your talking about, but from what I have read here, I seriously doubt Johnny Depp was guilty of being abusive. Sounds more like both of them was into kinky stuff and once they stopped, she wanted game and used the situation to get it.

How do you know Johnny Depp was falsely accused? The fact that Amber Heard abused him in no way proves he DIDN'T also abuse her. And there is mounting evidence in the UK trial suggesting that he did. @@evo683 There was no death sentence, but the cops questioned me, my mom, and my sister and I told them it didn't happen of course, which of course would make it incredibly hard to make any court case (if it had gone to court) since the supposed victim is absolutely denying it, so ya know. She tried to get a restraining order soon after the accusation but that failed since she had no proof and luckily after the school year ended (this happened in March) I was able to move in with my dad. Being tried and punished in the community without any evidence at all would be terrifying to an innocent man. This is why there HAS to be a law against releasing the accused OR the accuser's name or face publicly until after the trial. And even then IF the accused is found guilty. But I feel like I need to ask, why would your father EVER need to be alone with one of your friends at all? And why would that scenario be a thing that is happening often enough that he was terrified of it? Also, if he only abstained from being alone with your friends "for a while", well that 100% seems like a really poor decision on his part. he could be falsely accused again at any time by any of their parents. Not worth it.

Yup, while ignoring that the man is going to be arrested, handcuffed, interrogated, have to arrange a lawyer, and the money for it, stress about how his life is going to unfold, and endure the stress of a pending case over months and years.

It's probably because lots of form of sexual harassment and assault have little to no evidence. People would have to walk around with cams and mics on all of the time. That doesn't mean that it makes sense in order to prosecute BUT we need to be real about the nature of the crimes and why it can be such a daunting and disappointing thing to be a victim and have 0 closure or punishment for the guilty party.
