I clearly recall (like many Heavy Metal fans at the time), that when Judas Pruest's vinyl began spinning on American turn tables and later on American radio and music channels, it was Rob's amazing vocals combined with the dual lead guitars of Glenn Tipton & K.K. Downing that grabbed our attention. I can honesty speak for most loyal and diehard Judas Priest fans, that none of us have enjoyed any measure of the publicized divsion that has taken place between.the band and K.K. I can also state, that for myself (and most likely most dedicated fans), that I never have had a desire to take "a side" in the matter. "One can either be right or one can either be happy." Perhaps its time to drop the desire to be right in any of this and elect to be happy first. If I had 60 seconds to speak to all the members of Judas Priest as a collective (former & current). I would fill the first 30 with words if apprecuation and take the last 30 to remind them that... "When we get to the last of our days here on earth and reflect on our past, we will only be left with 2 things... our memories and our regrets. Bury the hatchet, get in thee current moment and create those future memories!"

I’ve been a fan of Judas Priest since I first heard Sad Wings of Destiny around 1979. It’s been one of my all time favorite ever since. I would place at least two if not three of their albums in the 10 all time best of heavy metal. With that being said … for me, Judas Priest is not Judas Priest anymore. I will continue listening to their music for as long as I live but you cannot keep the band going without one of it’s absolute main feature (the twin guitar attack of KK and Tipton) and pretend it’s the same as it was. And now change the twin lead format for a single guitar player ?! C’mon … let’s be serious …

I don't understand how you can celebrate 50 heavy metal years where having two guitarist for about 47 of those years was an integral part of the band. I hope it's just a misunderstanding from what Andy Sneap heard and that it is still a 5 person band. It doesn't feel right with less unless Rob starts playing guitar live, but he's said a few times that is too difficult since he wants to focus on his vocals, so that's probably not happening either and it'd also feel off.

I saw them years ago in New Jersey...3 miles across the river from Manhattan...it was the first tour without KK.. We did decided to go inside 30 minutes before Judas Priest took the stage. To my absolute horror, the whole stage was placed in the middle of the arena blocking off half of the venue, also the entire upper deck was closed off as well. They had probably 5,000 fans there in an arena for 20,000... it was heartbreaking to see...knowing full well Judas Priest ALWAYS packed this place being so close to the city. This was a direct F... You to the band and it hit them in the pocketbook. Now fast forward to first tour with Andy in the band....different venue in New Jersey but now the stage is in the proper place and upper deck is still closed off....apparently fans are trickling back to see them. Now we come to this absolute horrible decision to get rid of Andy, which by the way, is COMPLETELY about money and continue as a 4 piece is enraging lifelong fans. Some fans will embrace this decision as a new rebirth of sorts, and that’s fine and their right to do so. But I feel, like a majority of fans do, that they are fueling their self destruction and sadly won’t be attending any more shows. This is probably THE worst decision that this band has ever made, besides their feud with KK and Rob’s ridiculous Santa beard. Rest In Peace Judas Priest.
@johnsanchez9980

@@MamasTroll I would lean more towards them not being able to afford keeping Andy on the payroll...Priest has done very poorly in the States since KK left... They are playing much smaller venues that hold around 5,000 people. Sure, in some cities they still draw in a good crowd, but in other cities they are playing in casino ballrooms and theaters. It’s a shame because I saw Iron Maiden in Brooklyn, New York and the arena was packed to the roof, meanwhile a few months earlier, across the river in New Jersey, Judas Priest was playing to a mostly closed off arena.

So a few points to your well thought out video and it was very sensible to give it a few hours to digest before making it. I would contest their management skills, and propose the band doesn't really know what it's doing, and the management team definintely doesn't. Priest has succeded because of their incredible musical chemistry and not because of their ego's or self promotion or market awareness. Priests history includes many instances of terrible marketing decisions. No, JP's success was purely down to their music and live performances. See Maiden for complete opposite scenario. Unless GT was mis diagnosed or there has been a miracle cure discovered in last few months, there are no cases of anyone ever recovering from parkinsons (slowing down for sure). I suspect that either Lynch will join his soninlaw or they will use backing tracks, both options less than ideal given my beleif that RF is little more than a lookalike who happens to be a great guitar cover player. Regardless, for me JP has not existed at any point when the trio of Rob, Glenn and KK were not involved. JP has not produced a track that makes me glad they continued with one of the tremendous three missing, not a single song. Yes some are very good, but all are music by numbers. What remains now is little more than a Halford priest tribute band. The Ripper era (the Karaoke Years) was awful, the Faulkner era (the Guitar Hero years) has been 'meh' and now I tell people I used to be a fan of the mighty priest. I know I have no right to expect them to quit, but they continue to tarnish the name of the greatest metal band of all time.

To pass as JP the absolute minimum requirement is Rob+ either KK or Tipton, preferably both and if not then Ian as a consolation, he's not quite the Steve Harris or Roger Waters of JP, so those first three are the charismatic and sound defining icons and of the band. I think it's, as KK put it - run its course. JP was just barely JP with Rob, Glenn and Ian as the core, mind you Ian being founding member and Scott Travis the drummer of my preference. Reunion touring would be cool. The other options similar to what it's recently been can be called Life Support Priest. Actually that could be the name of the album if neither Downing or Tipton plays lead. (Edit reply: Guys, you didn't get the points at all and further shame is on you for gaslighting on my position, misrepresenting the content of my comment. So you can just sod off. Diminishing Ian's skill as bassist and contribution to JP's success proves that you just want the big names, without having proper knowledge. Ian is easily up there with the best, just not as flashy. He knows his role in the band and delivers every time. And don't event get me started on Scott... He's been with Priest longer than all other drummers combined and changed what JP is starting from Painkiller. Splendid drummer that is amazing live every time. Bottom line is, what you consider passable at best is crucial to JP the same way that Rob, Tipton and KK are.

Yeah, all this is compromising their legacy tbh. They don't have to stop music altogether, as they are creative so will probably still want an outlet. But tbh it would be interesting to have content outside of the Judas Priest brand because that has become quite Flanderised into too much fantasy bs - they always had that element but it was interesting and there were decent lyrics (in the 70s mostly, and then Halfords 90s solo work). Basically their best work is very theatrical but with something to say generally. Now it's mostly purely inane near self parody, but that's been a trend of theirs since the mid 80s (not that there aren't some good songs on those albums, like A Touch of Evil for example which is fantastical but uses it as metaphor to say something). But seeing people at their age continue with inane silly stuff, especially as their fanbase, even at it's younger end, is not children. The disintegration of the band compounds this really.

There is an extremely unlikely possibility, if the JP family/team wants to REALLY excite the fan base, and REALLY remove all the justified, and fully reasonable, level of concern, or even doubt, amongst the legions of JP fans. These are devoted fans who have listened enough to be very familiar with the catalog of great music (and the music of the late 80s, "Turbo...," and, "Ram...," era), and even many non-musician fans know that certain songs, or at minimum certain sections of songs, require two guitar players to perform correctly. Alternatively, one guitarist can play the rhythmically parallel intervals used in twin guitar harmonies, but the guitar lines that are rhythmically divergent, or involve one part largely made up of strumming and holding chords, and one part playing mostly single note melodic phrases, or moving between melodic lines and lead/solo lines, these parts would be, to say the least, extremely difficult for even the most brilliantly skilled guitarist to play. Most of these parts, many significant portions of iconic songs, would require the use of samples, or backing tracks. I know that I have ZERO interest in paying money, likely a lot of money, to not see live performances of musicians and bands , but to listen to pre-recorded playing. Paying to listen to songs I've purchased at least once, and hear any time I'd like? I'll pass. Anyways, if JP wants to fire up fans, repeat the Ripper Owens addition. Inform fans that a guitar playing fan, one who isn't already signed, already known, already established, but a truly unknown guitar player will be chosen. Maybe fans can help narrow the choices by voting on the best out of ten at a time. Not asshole comments, just numbering 1 to 10 and move on. This would BLOW UP the internet, AND would attract attention to Priest from young teenagers to 70 year olds looking for an opportunity missed many years ago. It would be HUGE!!! I'd even build a handmade custom guitar for the winner, if he/she would like. I've been in 3, 4, 5, and 7, piece metal bands, and played Priest songs, and I just don't see a 4 piece sounding proper. Great vid, Vlad! Unprepared as you state that you were to make it, you've produced quite a well thought-out examination of the situation. (I'd feel remiss, though, if I didn't note that Ritchie could simulate the harmonizing guitar parts not by sampling, but just by using a stompbox.) Whatever they do--and regardless of how I or anyone else might feel about it--I'm quite curious to see Priest on this tour and see (and hear!) how they pull it off.

So...How are they going to do harmonic dual-guitar parts ?? Will Rich Faulkner use a special pedal ?? After watching them on stage in Hollywood FL 3 years ago I have no doubt he can pull it off but it feels a bit weird...Like something's missing...That said Andy Sneap did an amazing job : his rhythm parts were spot on and his solos absolutely blistering even though it was clearly Faulkner who was the highlight ( intentionally ?) of the band...

Just read on Blabbermouth, JP has reversed its decision to tour as a 4 piece. I guess they listened to all the negative comments and saw the potential for lost ticket sales. JP is my all time favorite band. Was my first concert (Point of Entry in SA,TX. EVERYONE in band and management need to put personal feelings aside and bring KK back. Then you will (IMO) bring a massive uptick in ticket sales and merchandising. It was disappointing to pay over $400 dollars for 50 years box set and not have any autographed pics of KK. It also seems his face was blurred out in some pics. JP forever, bring back KK!!!

I would much rather see Spinal Tap as a 3 piece free-form jazz ensemble after Nigel left than I would see Judas Priest as a 4 piece. This feels like a slap in the face to fans. This does not seem like a decision a band like JP would make on their own. My alternative suggestions: 1. Make an All-Star Priest Tour. Bring in ALL guys who've worked their best to keep JP alive, but as a must, get KK (!!!) and Glenn (!!) and Rob (!!). Swallow the individual drama queen pride (Rob?). If an album, have the same involved. Glenn can play more rhythm, we all understand reality. Live shows, bring in Tim as well! Make it a 'family thing', exes/adoptees still respected. 2. Pack up and retire! 3. KK's Priest keep doing and keeping it honest: It's a spin-off - make no bones about it. 4. Call Rob&Ian Priest Rob&Ian's Priest not Judas Priest. 5. Again, gracefully call it quits.

I just read their latest Twitter posting, and it seemed that they'll finish the tour with Andy. I saw them twice with Andy on board, and while he was a fine guitarist, you're correct when you said that the "live guitar dynamics were... different." Andy didn't have the charisma, enthusiasm and personality to match Richie onstage. Richie won us over with his charisma and enthusiasm (not to mention his playing), but Andy has seemed very shy. Andy himself said in that Blabbermouth article you showed that this arrangement was temporary. If they ask him to stay in the band longer, he needs to step it up and show us more personality and enthusiasm onstage.

I've sadly not bothered to see them live since Glenn's last tour. It is NOT Judas Priest without him. PERIOD. I understand they have done what's necessary and I don't fault them for it. But I can't do it, then or now. Ritchie is amazing but now only 1 guitar on stage? Hang it up guys. And I don't care who they "replace" Andy with, it's not Priest. I hope their next album is something great but who knows. Firepower was a much needed reprieve from the lameness of Redeemer. Maybe they'll hit another home run, that Glenn is a part of. Once he is unable to participate in any way (unfortunately Parkinson's doesn't get better), I'm out.

Judas Priest has always been known for Rob Halford's searing vocals and it's Double Lead Guitar attack. The short-sightedness of not asking KK Downing to come back is beyond me. Rob no longer has the same vocal range that made Judas Priest famous and going from two replacement guitar players to ONE replacement guitarist and still calling themselves Judas Priest won't fly with me. I have no problem with richie, he's a phenomenal guitarist but Kk should be brought back so there's at least a double guitar attack and one original guitarist. I've seen this band 20 times going back to 1981 and I guess I've seen my last show because I won't pay for a four piece.

So many classic songs that "must" have two guitars that have define Priest are either gonna be scrubbed, some shows will get Glen to appear for a few songs, or their gonna add it the second parts via the moving board. Personally I want them to wake up and say, wait a minute, wtf were we thinking and call Andy back and get to rocking the priest way as a 5-piece.

I saw Priest at Bloodstock last August. They need and are a twin guitar band. That would be like Thin Lizzy only having . Scott Gorham . Or Brian Robertson. On their own. Jailbreak, wouldn't have sounded as good an album. But back to my point At Bloodstock. Andy did a great job. Wtf are they thinking about. On all the previous albums. When Glen played a solo. KK kept the rythm going. One guitarist will just lose them power and their unique sound.

KK Downing had expressed his disappointment of not being asked to come back after Tipton's health challenges. KK's Priest was more like a point to prove he has it in him to be in the original Priest band. 50years celebration would be great if Downing and Tipton are on stage together for atleast a couple of songs. Or just have 3 guitarists like Iron Maiden and retire together with love, respect and a huge gift to all the fans. Would be one of the greatest reunions. KK DOWNING SHOULD BE BACK. And no way Priest songs can be given any justice with just one guitarist.

The quartet format for an iconic band like Judas Priest would be revolutionary if they composed new songs that emphasized only one guitar, and emphasized even more the bass, like Rush. As for the classical material, without a second guitar playing, I think the experience would be really frustrating for the viewer. I think of the quartet as what Ozzy Osbourne got in his work, if we consider that since Black Sabbath, this has been the lineup that has prevailed until the present day, although keyboards have also joined. Using the concept of a single guitar, George Lynch's example fits perfectly, as his works with Dokken and in his projects and bands, only one guitar provided all the harmony, weight and beautiful solos. There was no need for a second guitar. Dokken, White Lion, Van Halen, etc, just to give you an idea that quartets can work incredibly well, could serve as an argument for Judas Priest to reshape his lineup. But I remember that at concerts, with performances of classics that require twin guitars, the single-guitar experience is apparently not very exciting. Even if they consider using samples, which I'm against, because it looks like a cheat. Perhaps the best thing is the change of managers, something that should be crucial at this point, after the departure of KK Downing. Glenn Tipton can be a great producer, songwriter, guitarist and all, but I don't think he works in live shows, not even in the few moments he appears at every show. It would be perfect if he focused on songwriting and production. About a possible addition of another guitarist, Judas Priest could consider inviting new talents, even unknown to the public. It would give new energy to Judas Priest, like Richie Faulkner did when he joined the group. I recently listened to "Spirits Of Fire", a project/album by Chris Caffery, Mark Zonder, Steve DiGiorgio and Tim Ripper Owens, and I think it's a great album! Sounds incredibly like a Judas Priest-level band, with classic heavy metal elements. In that regard, it's a better album than KK's Priest's "Sermons of the Sinner". [I apologize for any errors in the text, I translated it on Google.]

For me.....and most likely everyone else, the optimal scenario would be for K.K. to come back to the Priest camp. But sadly, there's obviously way too much bad water that has flowed under that bridge for that to ever happen. Maybe I'll have to hit up Rob, and throw my hat in the ring so to speak......that would be the penultimate "Bucket List" achievement for me, to be able to go on tour with Judas Priest. I know TONS of their songs, and would be honored to get that opportunity. And then I woke up, lol.
