'Sworn to avenge, condemned to hell!' - if you asked someone to come up with a brilliant lyric for a metal song they'd struggle to beat that. 4 things; 1. Richie Faulkner. A brave fella stepping in to KK's mega-ton (knee high) boots but he is just brilliant. Great player, great showman, great communicator with the crowd. More so than KK was, actually. Passionate and committed, loves the material he's playing. He has won me over! Love the guy. 2. If you have ever experienced an opera by one of the classical composers you will know how insane the narratives to their stories quite often were. This is no fucking different. We get taken somewhere else where a load of super dramatic stuff is happening. It's weird and wonderful and it take us out of ourselves. And Rob H delivers a lot of this song with operatic phrasing which I thought was superb. 3. After Halford 'came out', how many LGBTQA+ people felt comfortable enough to get in to hard rock and metal? Many, many, many. Which is fantastic - rock music is meant to liberate ALL of us! Fucking right! 4. All of us viewing/listening to this here love Priest. I once turned down full intercourse with a beautiful girl (on a summer's evening in 1978 around the back of a youth club) just so I could go and jump about to Delivering The Goods. That's got to count for something, surely?! Take care friends. Best - PT x
