Dredd 2012 is occult to no end. Mama stands for FreeMasonry, which uses the symbol 33, rendered as MM, WW, CC or a combo of them- you can see this in brands and logos like M&M, Mickey Mouse, Marylin Manson, Marylin Monroe, Michael Madsen, West World, WWE logo, Disney's Club 33, MC Hammer In occult doctrines, Judges are Gods, Lords. thus, in history, a massive war was waged between the Empire and the Rebels, also called the Commune. A historical figure in this war accross centuries was Cromwell, who, although a Lord, sided with the Commune against the Empire.

@DECIMUS MAXIMUS Only by acknowledging that there is a God, can we hope to make sense of human existence, the world we inhabit, and, paradoxically, the problem of evil. But if God is goodness personified and therefore, as our Creator, the divine source of all that is good, true and beautiful, why is there so much evil and suffering? What has gone wrong? The Christian answer to that question, the Bible says, is that our world has been damaged by rebellion against God. An originally good creation has been spoiled. If you find this hard to believe, consider the evidence. Look at all the many examples there are of benevolent and intricate design in Nature: the nest-building instincts of birds, the incredibly complex structure of the human brain, the navigational systems of bats and whales, the biological software of DNA in every cell of our bodies, sexual reproduction, etc. All this exists side by side with harmful viruses, disease and death. Can its obvious implications be ignored? Consider, too, the significance of the fact that human beings possess an inner moral code they cannot get rid of yet seem unable to obey. Does all this not suggest some process of deterioration from hopeful beginnings? Is it not also significant that many ancient peoples and cultures, including the Chinese, have some tradition of a lost Paradise in the dim and distant past?

The man not only successfully broke himself out of a ridiculous prison, and shocked the audience with his ability to wield a Lawgiver on top of hotwiring and establishing leadership over a giant warbot, but immediately canned his greatest adversary using their own judicial system. His coup attempt may also have actually succeeded were he to have had the time necessary to produce his clone enforcers. With a more serious script, a less precious main actor and a complete lack of Rob Schneider, Judge Dredd could have been a long-lived banger of a classic.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree, in that I highly doubt the majority of American audiences picked a foreign film starring NOBODY they'd ever heard of vs. an American film starring one of the leads from Game of Thrones and one of the supporting cast of The Lord of the Rings. I'm not saying that The Raid is a bad movie, or that NOBODY went to see it, but c'mon... Maybe you're not from the U.S., so I could understand that, but having lived here my whole life I can honestly say there's RARELY been a time where Americans flocked to theatres in the hundreds of thousands to watch a movie with subtitles... More than likely, people just (incorrectly) associated Dredd (2012) with its inferior counterpart Judge Dredd (1995), and said, "Nah... that first one was lame." And now looking at the U.S. box office comparisons: The Raid pulled in 4.1 million while Dredd pulled in 13.4 million, more than THREE times the box office gross. Dredd even beat the Raid WORLDWIDE in box office gross, so it stands to reason that MORE people wouldn't see a movie they were "skipping out on".

I have a love/hate for the '95 Dredd. It utterly fails as a Dredd film, being too confused as to what it is and how to interpret Dredd for a world audience. In the end, it just becomes a generic Stallone film. But it does have excellent production design that captures the look of Mega-City One (no surprise considering the design crew included artists who were currently drawing Judge Dredd in 2000ad and in Dredd's spin off Megazine). And the opening Block War scene was like watching a classic Brian Boland or Ron Smith strip brought to life, and still holds up as a great Dredd intro. But the plot was all over the place, and had more holes than a Boing stadium. Even if Stallone had kept the helmet on all the way through, that movie was doomed. The Urban Dredd wins hands down. There's simply no contest. First and foremost, it's a solid action movie, with a distinct style, and an instantly accessible appeal that allows Dredd to be introduced to the uninitiated from a familiar setting. Even if you'd never heard of Judge Dredd before, you knew what was going on, what the stakes were, and who was who. It sucks we'll never get a sequel that it deserves (and I'll probably never get a Judge Death movie in my lifetime), but I'll settle for at least one F##ng kick ass Dredd film than nothing at all.

I’m surprised it was so close. I thought Karl Urban’s Dredd would win almost across the board. That is a much better movie in every sense, but yeah, the city in Judge Dredd was closer to the comics. Also, the opening outfit in Judge Dredd was comic-accurate, but Dredd won that category IMO because Urban stays in his outfit for the entire movie (including the mask), even though it was just a more realistic take on what the character would wear. Personally, I prefer Dredd’s outfit over the actual comic design, but Judge Dredd would have won that category regardless for me if Stallone had stayed in the outfit, mask and all, for the entire movie. As far as I’m concerned, Karl Urban IS Dredd.

I grew up reading comics. I read all the popular comic books from marvel to DC. Judge dredd not taking off his helmet is dumb as hell. It would be like Spider-Man not taking off his mask. Peter Parker is what makes Spider-Man. Or Batman not taking off his cowl, Bruce Wayne makes Batman. And there is a reason why why Stallone took off his helmet, that's why his Dredd made twice as much. It was made for a PG-13 rating and that's why it wasn't a major hit. Because they were no really r-rated scenes when it got slapt with an r-rating. Anyways, Stallone's Dredd is way better of a movie. Don't get me wrong Karl Urban is great.

Should be Robocop vs JUDGE DREDD (1995) vs. DREDD (2012) since Robocop was based on Judge Dredd.

It is cute that you had to add categories just to give any wins to the FAR inferior 95 version. Dredd was fucking awesome!

I don’t think it’s even close. The Stallone movie is a cheesy B-movie. Although the Karl Urban movie does not show us much Megacity 1, both films are named after the main character, but only Karl Urban delivers that character. Stallone delivers Stallone.

Guys....Dredd is easily the superior film. There’s nothing decent about it. It’s a fantastic underrated flick. They updated the visuals to a more grounded look and it works far better on screen. Still love me some 90s Cheese from the OG movie but Dredd out classes it in every respect. It being a slice of life movie in scope doesn’t take away from the film at all.

Interesting to break it down into elements where u might give Stallones Dread the checkmark in some areas. But, even those wins have little bearing on the movie itself. So Stallone and his writers have more pedigree. So what? What the hell does pedigree have to do with the final product. Knock off those 2 checkmarks and it's a runaway. As for the rest, a bit subjective. Even respecting the source material that he gives Stallones city can be takin away by Stallone personally. Stallones is literally unwatchable while Urbans can be rewatched multiple times Love Stallone but he has several stinkers and this is one of em. Judgement: Dredd 2012

I actually found the 2012 version even more disappointing: a self-indulgent, plotless shoot'em up. The Stallone version at least nailed the look of the comics.

Are you kidding me? This should not have been close. The 2012 film is infinitely better than that 90's trash. Your criticisms about the world not sufficiently resembling the comics are illogical, since the whole reason the 2012 movie had a relatively small budget was because no one wanted to risk a massive amount of money on a Dredd movie after Stallone's abysmal failure. The truth is that we were lucky to even get the 2012 movie after the commercial and critical failure of the Stallone's Judge Dredd. Most of the "problems" that you identified can be attributed to the lack of a sufficient budget, again thanks to the Stallone movie. Your point about the slow mo drug scenes partly being motivated by the 3D fad of the early 2010's is valid. However, those scenes can be appreciated even without 3D because they are undeniably beautiful, gruesome and memorizing. The ingenuity used in creating the effects in some of those shots is impressive. As far as your issue with the fact that Dredd isn't renowned throughout Mega-City One in this movie, you do know that this was kind of intended to take place early in Dredd's career and that the hope was that the film would make enough to make sequels, right? The events at Peach Trees could have been the catalyst for Dredd's reputation spreading beyond his fellow judges (since it is shown in the film that he has a reputation among them) in sequel films. Sadly, we didn't get sequels because, as you pointed out, the movie barely made it's production costs back. Why did it fail though? Was it because of critical response? Nope. It is generally well regarded among critics. Was it because of bad word of mouth from people who saw it in theaters? No. The vast majority of people that did see it thoroughly enjoyed it. There are two reasons the movie failed financially. The first reason was that it was very poorly marketed. The second reason is that people still had a sour taste in their mouths from that awful Stallone abomination, seventeen years after it came out.

The notion Dredd isn’t a good Judge Dredd movie seems to pervade through people who don’t know the comic well or misinterpret it. Yes, the movie’s depiction of the city was pretty toned down, but it felt like a Dredd script-notably one from the more recent (post-Pit) era. Judge Dredd had some good production design, but even some of that doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. The uniform isn’t especially authentic. It has some of the elements but they’re all weirdly skewed. The Dredd uniform takes Ezquerra’s original design as a template and then adds some body armour. As for the films as a whole, there’s no contest. At best, Judge Dredd is a mediocre Stallone vehicle that pales in comparison to Demolition Man, which dealt with future satire much better. Dredd is a terse, tense Carpenteresque action flick. It’s no-nonsense. That is one aspect of the Dredd comics. And that’s the thing: the Judge Dredd comic isn’t one type of story-it’s many. Dredd understood that and focused on one element that it nailed totally. Judge Dredd threw as much as the wall as it could-and none of it stuck.

Is this even a fight? This is like Muhammad Ali in his prime (2012 Dredd) vs. Wilfred Brimley and his crippling diabetes (1995 Judge Dredd).

A close race between these two? Really? Dredd wipes the floor with the Stallone-vehicle, precisely because Karl Urban *got* the character. While Stallone was too vain to keep the helmet on.

This is just not a contest 2012 was superior in every way possible. It was: 1) Faithful to source material. 2) Better executed. 3) Brutally dark. 4) Better dialogue. 5) Better acting. And so on. The earlier one was a bland joke.

Dredd is near perfect film! I pity anyone who verbally criticizes it for revealing their pure and utter foolishness openly in the same way I'd feel sorry for a grown human being who draws attention to themselves to purposely piss their pants and being proud about it.

I saw JD in the cinema, and really enjoyed it, but I tried to rewatch it several years later and made me cringe. Dredd on the other hand, was awesome and I wouldn't mind watching it again. I agree that JD is more "comic" friendly visually speaking, but I like Urban more for the role. I'd love to see a sequel with him more on the lines of JD. :)

Let me guess, the next debate will be "Batman & Robin" versus "The Dark Knight", with TDk only winning by a hair. Why is this even up for debate? It's no secret or problem as to which is better. I get the points made in the argument but this is still ridiculous. You gave the point to Stallone because he's Stallone, not because he was better. That's like giving the point to Arnold over Heath because Arnold is the icon, despite how bad he is in the movie. If this were between Rocky/Rambo in their prime against Urban's Dredd then, yeah, that'd make sense but this egregious. "Judge Dredd" may have more money and resources but look what they did with it. They made him a ridiculous cartoon that seriously damaged the name. "Dredd", especially in comparison, is the best example of not having the most but the most of it and succeeding. Jesus man the first has Rob Schneider is it, that alone should be disqualifying. The best thing Schneider ever did was inspire the title of Roger Ebert's book, "Your Movie Sucks." If this is how it's going to be, please don't make any more of these videos.

2012 Dredd is a great movie that has a huge impact and really holds up. You can quibble about the production design, but it looks gritty and realistic and perfectly fits the movies tone. The acting is top-notch, especially from Carl Urban. Yes, it felt a bit closed-in, but that was the intent. The Stallone movie is annoying to watch and never feels real. It does have a comic book quality, but so do the Joel Schumacher Batmans, and for much the same reasons. It's not a good realization of Dredd and not a good movie in general.
@julius-stark3 жыл бұрын
IMO this wasn't even close, Dredd 2012 was fantastic and was far better than it should have been on that budget. Just imagine if they had Judge Dredd's budget adjusted for inflation.

Having Stallone onboard meant his casting took a loooot out of that budget. I remember at that time he had a contract for 3 movies for a record amount of money (it was Judge Dredd, Demolition Man and one more).
