I've had SL's for 14 years, and I've loved every minute of it. My hair has never been so strong, healthy and long, long, long! The last time I cut it I took about 12-14 inches off and had layers cut, and there's no end to what you can do with it. They're versatile and I roll, twist-out, braid-out, set, wear up, down, and everything in between.

I locked my hair within the first year of being a nurse because I was tired of using my weekends to wash de tangled deep condition my hair so often. I wanted to take my time back for myself so I can use it to actually live. I did not want to be a slave to my own hair but I also want to wear my natural hair. I am on my fourth set of locks and I’m on microlocs and I did them myself. Locks no matter what form they are in are such a great investment in yourself.

So you are the reason I decided to do my own , I followed your earlier videos. So thank you for that! I was on the fence for year due to the cost and length of my hair. I am also a health care professional as a pharmacist and have no issues with "professional appearance". This has been the best decision of my life for my hair and the freedom of not having to do my hair for hourrrrssss every other day makes me so happy! The term “Dreadlocks” is not what many African Americans think it is. It is a beautiful history of defiance against colonialism and fighting against tyranny.

@@ShelbySteele23 because we are using modern day understanding to apply to something before our time. We do not look at it in context nor research. Dreadlocks in the 20th century, is the foundation upon which the Rastafarian movement, originating in Jamaica, was established. It is a way of life that includes a deep connection to Jah (God) with deep respect for Haile Salassie I, the emperor of Ethiopia who was able to stave off white colonisers. Because to many of us, it is a hairstyle we do not do the research and instead buy into the fallacy that some white man called them dreads because they were dreadful. Once again, allowing oppressors to rewrite OUR story.

@@Elle79 I appreciate your explanation but it doesn't clarify if the dread in dreadlocks derives from the word dreadful? If so, it needs to be changed along with a lot of other words that we use with negative historical context. Black hair is unique and beautiful in all of its forms, especially locks and that should be honored and celebrated, not "dreaded". Just because something started out a certain way doesn't mean we have to accept or keep. And it is absolutely ok for us to reject things/words that offend us even if we don't know the full history.

I've really enjoyed watching your lock journey. I've had sisterlocks for 2 1/2 years, and and I absolutely love microlocs/sisterlocks. Even if you don't install yourself, I think it is wise to know how to maintain yourself. Lockdown was a powerful lesson for so many of us (not to be 100% dependent on a consultant). I don't see myself returning to relaxers (although I enjoyed that phase of my life). I am so happy to show up in my professional setting taking up space wearing my natural hair proudly. I've followed you for a while on here (Browneyed) and on IG, but I just recently started this channel with my daughter. I did a post on my IG about this, but I'll go into detail here. To buttress your point about how important Justice Ketanji's appointment is, my 19 year olf niece is pre-law and has been putting off getting tiny locs becuase she was convinced that not conforming to the Eurocentric standard of beauty would limit her in her career (fun fact - her mum has had Sisterlocks for 7 years now and two of her aunts have Microlocs/Sisterlocks). The day Justice Ketanji was confirmed she DMed me to say - "CRAZY how I ever hesitated or thought twice about getting locs." I was moved beyond words. Just by being and showing up as her authentic self, Justice Ketanji has started an entire movement and I'm here for it!

I'm still micro twisted after 2 years now and love all your updates. aww this was such a cute video. I recently found you on insta and decided to come check out your channel for inspo. I cut my hair off a few months ago because I got tired of spending hundreds on knotless braids, and I just don't have the interest in spending so much time and effort on the upkeep of natural hair at the moment. Girl they told me $6K-$7,500 for microlocs or sisterlocks on my 28in hair...long story short I cut my hair in 2022, into a very low taper, and just got my locs established 10.02.23...it was $1400 for 11-13in hair
