Judo drills: Moving uchikomi. When I am doing moving uchikomi, it is important that I coordinate with my partner which leg I am going to step and which leg they are going to step with FIRST. I almost ALWAYS start with my leg leg. So when i do my turn throws, I can turn on three.
Timing is everything. Even if I am doing Kouchi, the foot is going to land on three. one two three. So i can anticipate this.
Not only do i always start with the left leg, I subtly remind my Uke to start with their right leg by giving a gentle upper body push or pull.
Once you get better at doing individual attacks, you can mix it up as I do in the video. Ouchi, osoto, kosoto, osoto.
I also Like using sasae during moving uchikomi to change positions. So i Can drill forward and backwards. Also very useful when there is a traffic jam down the uchikomi lane. I can use the sasae to go the other way for a little while the lanes clear up.
I hate when the lanes clog up and students just stand there. You're wasting time! Do static uchikomi or go the other way! Maybe you dont have this problem. We are in NYC and space is limited.
