Sitting there on stage, watching her daughter sing, must've been one of the great joys of Judy's life.

you could see the mother in Judy when she raised Liza's mic, and told her to stay on key. You can tell they sang at home. It's amazing to watch. Thank you. Tonight was a Judy Garland TV night for me, a marathon!

I think it was probably one of the most frightening days for her. A day she saw her daughter as a competitor.
@KM-cu7he
@KM-cu7he 4 жыл бұрын
@@abrahamanaya2100 no she was very proud of Liza. By this time they had sung together many times on Judy's television series in the early 60s Judy knew her daughter was going to be a great talent from the time she was a child in the same way that Judy herself was. Judy wanted Liza to have a normal childhood so never put her in anything she did until Liza told her mother she was ready to handle the pressure.
@TheReturnOfStephan1
@TheReturnOfStephan1 Жыл бұрын
@@KM-cu7he Liza's childhood was far from normal, considering her mother's erratic behavior, trust of all of the wrong people, poor financial management and, basically, leaving Liza to raise her younger siblings when they weren't with their father, it's, frankly, a miracle that she turned out as normal as she did.

My Dad told me everything about Judy and Liza when we were rejected by our Mother, and that was when we were going the worst time in care, ,in a children's home. Through sheer talent via my dad , what the heartfelt magic and talent. I am sorry if I don't I don't make sense. 😊

My god Liza was really something, she was her mother’s daughter and more. Recently watched an interview of her saying her mother realised during this time that Liza was not just good but also competition. Liza took her mother’s torch and held it high. Two legends in their very own right! What a legacy

DropTheOscar ASMR Judy did ALWAYS dote on Liza.. one interviewer mistakenly called her LEEza. She corrected it and indeed said she was better. Ah... what talent! If Hollywood had elegance and talent like this again! It’s pure magic isn’t it? This is TRULY a treasure!!

Judy and Liza were absolutely FABULOUS. The slight edge that Judy will always have no matter who the performer is that every time the viewer feels as if Judy is giving her heart, soul, arm, legs, and everything else. No performer has ever topped Judy in this way and nobody ever will. And obviously her voice is absolutely GREAT.

Outside of my own personal life, a Judy Garland concert is one of those events that I would have loved to experience personally. ronhronh: Oh, YESSSS! I'm an old soul that tends to long for people & places of long ago....Remember that TV Series 'Quantum Leap'? I used to watch that & wonder, if he was such a brilliant scientist, why couldn't he visit the places he CHOSE to visit? I understand that he went where he was truly NEEDED, but always thought it would be great to have the choice to go visit a long ago hero & relative that he would like to spend some time with. If that technology ever becomes a reality, I'd LOVE to go spend some time w/ Judy - as a neighbor/friend (assuming she wouldn't slam the door in my face). LOL. I have a long list of people I'd like to visit from long ago, but Judy is def in the top 3 on my list! Regarding the concert shown here, I heard Liza on a talk show speaking about her memories of it - the first time she ever shared the stage w/ her Mom. She was VERY young here - only about 18 or 19 yrs old......but had a couple of plays under her belt already & was def showing the developing voice that we've all come to know & love. Liza said, "We started the show w/ Mama singing a couple of solo songs....Then I entered the stage & we sang together like we always do at home (one can only imagine the impromptu concerts they gave in their living room, over the years). I remember being submerged in so much love from the audience - and it totally inspired me & gave me so much energy! Then, about halfway through the concert, it became so blatantly obvious to me that I wasn't singing w/ Mama anymore.....Judy Garland had entered the stage! Like everyone else, I could only sit back in awe at her performance. I tried my best to perform the rest of the concert & do my best....But it was obvious who was in charge....and who this super loving crowd came to see!" I've always admired Liza for giving proper kudos to her Mom. There never seemed to be any type of competition between them (like there often is between women). Liza is ALWAYS the FIRST to say that she never has tried to imitate her Mama - "How can you imitate perfection?", I've heard her say repeatedly in interviews (where ignorant interviewers often compare her voice to her Mama's voice). Judy was one of a kind. Liza is also one of a kind. Someone else commented here - Apples & Oranges. WE (fans) are just extremely lucky to have this footage available and also lucky to have someone post it on YTube for us to enjoy! Thanks so much for posting this awesome concert!

With all due respect to Liza, but, she can't compare to her mom. I'll give Liza the nod when it comes to dancing. She doesn't do the same kind of dancing her Mom did. Her mom did tap, and ball room dancing. Liza did more modern dance, than anything else. Singing wise, there is no comparison. Judy beats everybody going away.

My pleasure! I agree they are similar, and also in the fact that they both had somewhat hard lives and both died too young.. Tho they'll forever be in our lives!

IMHO....the female Elvis of the 20th century. The emotion she puts in a song, is the best I have heard from any female singer

The very best two singers of their day. Great ranges. Liza gives you everything she has to entertain you and Judy was one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century.

The thing is, I don't really think anyone achieved what she did. Then, before, or after. Many tried to emulate and impersonate her, but no one could ever be her.

the first song was sung by anthony newly on broadway. i knew him in 1962. she knew how to pick songs as sinatra did. then she sang her heart out. she spent all her energy to please the audience. she helped the world during the depression and is a graduate of it. you should see how tough it was then and you would know where the feeling comes from. she became a bar singer but on a big stage. i loved her from 1943 to today. rpc

Today is May 25th, 2020. I am watching this on my sofa, and my country (Costa Rica) is only 3 hours away from legalizing same-sex marriage. I’m now crying because I love Judy Garland so much and the day that I get married I’m going to play her music so loud. Oh boy, my future husband will be so lucky. Miss Garland vivirá por siempre y para siempre, un beso al cielo para esta mujer.

So funny how Judy is putting the mic closer to Liza's mouth, like she's not holding her mic close enough at 14:44 and 15:53 (you can here Liza say to Judy something like 'stop that bossing'). It's so mother daughter like and it's not very subtle of Judy as we know she wasn't at that time. But such a great performance of the both of them and a magnificent band.

I saw Liza in a clip of an old interview, and she was appalled at this scene-stealing ploy. She vowed never to work with Judy again, and she didn't. The only other time they appeared on the same stage at the same time was at the Palace in 1967, greeting each other, but they did not sing together.

A Krenwinkle I felt like she was trying to get her to get the right sound for certain notes. Mother’s have this innate need to say things like...”speak louder!” when you’re doing just fine. Then again...later you might find what they meant.

You both have it wrong! It was actually a slight tinge of jealousy and envy--hence, pushing the microphone into her face, especially since Judy's voice was NOT up to par for the most part that evening!
