I see you almost everywhere on KZbin utilizing the word iconic incorrectly. You NEED to know the definition of the word iconic. Get new material. 🙄 adjective icon·ic | \ ī-ˈkä-nik \ Collegiate Definition 1: of, relating to, or having the characteristics of an icon 2a: widely recognized and well-establishedan iconic brand name b: widely known and acknowledged especially for distinctive excellencean iconic writer

Judy was an icon. How she describes something ain't iconic. You're on KZbin commenting on things celebrities said. The things they say & how they say it ain't iconic. And then the fools that don't know any better like yourself click like. Take an English course, study words, their purpose, their use in language. 🙄

She was too famous , beautiful, rich and desired to give a fuck about what salty Marlene ( who always liked the same men as Liz did ) or salty Judy ( who never had men fall over themselves to be near her due to her average at best looks ) had to say .

I'm not sure on how close Elizabeth and Garland really were. Here Garland said she didn't like Elizabeth much and that she didn't have good manners! A friend wouldn't say that. Decades later, on Larry King Live, Larry asked Liza about Elizabeth and she said "Why are you asking me about Elizabeth Taylor for?" I found it so rude.

They grew up together as children and knew each other their whole lives. You know when a person is so close to someone that they are comfortable enough to joke about and criticize them, like sibling rivalry. It was part of the gag.

Yet, I have NEVER seen Elizabeth make jokes about Garland. Taylor always complimented Garland and talked about how much she loved Garland. So, the game was not played the same way by both.

Joshua Taylor No way. Judy Garland was born in 1922. Elizabeth Taylor in 1932. Liza Minnelli was born in 1946. Tell me which one Elizabeth grew up with, went to school with & was best bff with? Elizabeth & Liza Minnelli were not that close.
@SandySaunders9142
@SandySaunders9142 6 жыл бұрын
REALLY? How very, very strange. Maybe Minnelli was a woman-child. Because the fact of the matter is that Liza Minnelli was a married woman of 23 when her mother died. LM had been married for two years by that time.

I was always a Judy Garland fan! I am only 24 but have appreciation for the stars back then. THEY had real talent unlike most of the trash today. Natural beauty didn't need any lip injections or a ton of surgery they were just naturally beautiful!

That's great, John, that you appreciate the stars from the golden days of Hollywood! Bette Davis, Laurence Olivier, Rosalind Russell, Olivia de Havilland, Spencer Tracy, Sidney Poitier and so many others, would never have carried on in public, the way that today's movie and t.v. stars do! And Elizabeth Taylor and Vivien Leigh were naturally beautiful. Miss Leigh looked like a little, porcelain doll. That's nice that someone as ypung as ypu appreciates the great ones from the past.

Let's put things into perspective.When Judy performed at a private party at El Bistro per the request of Princess Margaret, Burton and Taylor were in attendance, and in their cups, Richard, in particular, was roaring drunk. To make matters worse, they were seated near the kitchen, which angered Richard who thought they deserved to be seated at the head table. During Judy's performance she stumbled over a mic cord and Richard yelled out "She's drunk again!" much to the horror of those present (Joanne Woodward then and there vowed to never speak to the Burtons again), and then the Burtons walked out. Judy didn't make a scene that night, but she apparently didn't forget the incident.....and swiped back when she was on the Paar show.

@NoahZooArk 4 жыл бұрын
True. I also read that Burton was well aware of how profitable having an affair with Elizabeth could be, but when he realized his fame would never match up to hers, he became bitter and jealous. Besides that, there's this interview with Shirley McLaine where she said he was often cruel and belittled her mercilessly in front of their friends. I guess she must have been so in love that she accepted all his bullshit

@@millers3888 I can see what you mean. She had so much inflammation from bad diet and drugs and here she didn’t so much but still not healthy for her age. Chill guys. Judy was just joking about Elizabeth as a kid...not who Elizabeth grew up to be as a woman. She was poking fun at her friend who went from an annoyingly talkative chipmunk loving kid to the sexiest woman of that time. They had a 10 year age difference. It was amusing to Judy to watch Elizabeth grow into what she became. Judy never saw it coming...so it was actually a backhanded compliment to Elizabeth.😜

Why no one ever called BS on this always surprises me: Elizabeth Taylor was almost a decade younger than the others that Judy Garland mentions: Taylor arrived at the MGM lot in 1943, when she was 8 years old. In 1943, Lana Turner, Mickey Rooney, Freddie Bartholomew, Jackie Cooper, and Judy Garland were all in their 20s and well out of school. There was a brunette beauty who was 17 when she arrived at MGM in 1939, who would have been the same age as Turner and Garland, and that person was Ava Gardner. But how could Elizabeth Taylor have been there? This doesn't make ANY sense and never did.

Judy DID very much have her own struggles. I would never envy Judy. Tbh, I was pissed off that Judy was so frank regarding ERT & so publically. Kind of ungracious and déclassé. The irony is that ERT would not have given a second thought about what JG or anyone else thought about how she lived her life. I have heard some doozies about JG and she wasn't just "rude". Elizabeth did one hell of a lot of good in her lifetime. A whole hell of a lot, that most do not know about. That is why I was irritated. 2nd comment. Life is a struggle. Always. I think it is okay to celebrate someone who did not allow themselves to get ground up by life. It is something to be very proud of. The strong survive. Inner strength is a vital coping mechanism.

Timm, perhaps you see life in pink and everything is marvelous for you. But that's not reality for everyone else. Life is generally tough and going through it is a struggle. Being a survivor is prevailing over life's struggles. It's an achievement for someone without a dime who mix sand (dirt) in his meal to make it bigger in the poorest part of Africa and it's an achievement for a great actress who could have succumbed to the traps of the rich, famous, drug and alcohol addicted.

Avalanche of Snowflakes, I can't agree with you more. I envy Garland's talent, but nothing else. I have always respected her talent as well as her daughter's. I always knew Garland tried to be upbeat and fight her depression or bipolar disease while being funny, but I never knew she tried to do it making fun of others. Being a great big Elizabeth Taylor fan, I'm not pleased with what she said. Add to that the fact that the timeframe doesn't match for them to be schoolmates because Garland was 10 years older than Elizabeth. I'm sure they visited each other's film sets, but they didn't study together. Only if Garland failed a few years at school.

Her great beauty, I could go on and on. But I really admire all that she did for the HIV/AIDS community at no small risk to herself. I can't explain why, but she did put herself on the line. And all the money she raised. Young ppl don't appreciate what a terrifying time it was. I just think ppl (if they are too young) need to read about what times were like then. Reagan wouldn't ever talk about the growing crisis, much less lift a finger to help. It took ERT badgering and charming him into action. Poor Judy. Some people really have these amazing gifts like Judy & Liza, have them become beset with some serious struggles in life. You do the best you can. My comment was harsh, but - I was P.O.'d! 😕 Regarding suicide, every day I wake up is another victory for me. I have had major depression since childhood. I have had severe debilitating chronic pain for 20+ years. It just gets really difficult. Thank you for your words, sometimes I feel very alone in my feelings about folks. Sounds like you know the struggle. Thank you and Keep On Truckin' as they used to say in the 70's. All the Best my friend!

Well I don't like post mortem tell all's but when I read her book, she's foul. Marrying Hilton the horse, and all the others. Whew. But to me she's in show biz crowd so young as a child, and it just reflects those adults around from such a young age. Thats her norm. Mills too said she saw these elder famous stars and had crushes on em. So chipmunk Rooney and so forth, she's a standup not singing. So the guy was young. Mixing the two but to see her as some thing to knock off with no motivation is really sick. I mean she's a mom. Big ol mom. No diets just be. It's weird.

Liz wasn't HALF the entertainer Judy was.

If you're talking all-around entertainer, someone who can act, sing, dance and tell jokes, you're right. Garland can only be compared to the likes of Streisand or The Divine Bette Midler. But Elizabeth Taylor was a much better actress than Garland with much more nominations and awards to prove it. Garland never got a competing Academy Award, just a special one. Aside from that, Elizabeth was a millionaire mega-star who wasn't broke by the time of her passing as Garland.

Marcos Valenca Marcos I could not agree more. Elizabeth never purported to be something she was not. Elizabeth was amazing enough as it was. No one in this group of "entertainers" praised or slammed was a better philanthropist. On top of the philanthropic efforts, she had a net worth of several hundred million dollars. Elizabeth never had to have her children come home from school to see their mother hanging out the window of their hotel, threatening to jump because she can't pay the hotel bill and the management wants to kick "The Judy Garland Entourage" out.

I feel sorry for Garland, her kids and the nanny. It really was a tragicomedy. I always want human beings to be happy, especially talented and hardworking ones like Garland. I saw "The End of the Rainbow" on a London stage in 2011. It was a very good play that showcased the episode you spoke about.

Marcos Valenca Yeah, there is too much pain and suffering in this world as it is. No sense in making others miserable. It's just wrong anyway.

Buck Green Right, but let's not forget Elizabeth Taylor was the first "star" to seek recovery ie...The Betty Ford Center....she was a recovering alcoholic, she also I think the pain pills were a part of that. Elizabeth had chronic pain, from back injuries just like me. Thank God (please) I don't drink regularly because I have really REALLY severe chronic pain and if I drank too much that could become a whole other kettle of fish. But Elizabeth kind of broke fresh ground there, and made it okay for others to get treatment for a valid medical problem. People were thinking, then saying, "Well....if Elizabeth Taylor can admit she is an alcoholic, then maybe..........I can too." Elizabeth was one hell of a woman.

So what if Judy bad mouthed Liz.. Judy didn’t beat around the bush about it. . Liz needed to be put in check and Judy is the person to do it. Liz and Richard were sloppy drunks. Liz was arrogant and rude to people outside of the business. Liz was going after older men in her teens. Liz was so self absorbed and didn’t care who she hurt to get what she wanted. Bravo Judy!
