I watched 1000 vidos of how to do the splits asap! And then I saw this video and I thougt: Why did it take me so long to realise that if I want to learn the splits I have to practice the splits🤦‍♀️😑😂

1) Yes you have to be consistent. 2) PNF is more effective and efficient than daily 2 hour long static holds. 3) There is big difference in terms of recovery time between 15 y.o. boy and 40 y.o. man learning the splits.

fuck this was too real for me. one of the most important lessons I have ever learnt about flexibility. basically "stop tip toeing around the painful, long periods of stretching and stop dicking around with 100 different mobility tools" thank you for this wake up call. a big slap in the face, I needed it. im defiantly gonna buy your ebook. is there a physical copy available?

I've been confused a lot about what to do, and what not to do when it comes to learning fulls splits. And you're totally right, the confusion has blocked my progress, I've been too afraid of doing something "wrong". It's all about persistence and action, and a strong desire fuels the persistence. Good to hear! One of my favorite quotes of all time is "you can't be aggressive if you're confused" ... this is the flexibility application of that advice. :-)

Hey Juji, I've been following you for a few years now. I just wanted to say keep up the great work! You have some incredible depth and I love your outlook on training. I remember stumbling on you when you decided to periodise your training further and add on more mass some years back. You supported me whilst I was going through a tough period in my life (I had to have 4 knee surgeries) and the outlook of powerlifting was looking very bleak. Using some of your ideas I took my ability to lift and transfer those skillsets into bodyweight training and I was able to hold a flag within months. This hit home as it was all hard work. It's easy to get caught up in the noise. Please continue sharing ideas. Thanks brother!

Thank you Asif! Probably the idea of working around injuries I assume? That's how I got an ironcross years ago: sprained ankle in tricking = ironcross on rings haha. Plus all the ring training had tremendous carryover to my tricking when the ankle healed. Always gotta work around problems and keep moving, that's life for you, and that's fun to do anyway! Thanks for your support and following me for so long!

You were not distracted, you worked in a very dedicated fashion on something you were super interested in. Just like Eddie Van Halen sat in his bedroom and learned how to be one of the most amazing guitar players ever. Then he hung out with a bunch of cool guys and made an amazing band come together and changed rock ‘n’ roll. Juji you are changing KZbin

3:00 That is the sweetest victory isn't? I remember when I said "I'm gonna squat 285 in a month" and I did it for the first time, it felt amazing. It's great because it's all about you vs yourself and no third party can simply say "nope." It can't be blamed or misdirected, it really is one of the best feelings in life. I love it.

From 26 years of age I started working on splits. I was working on it irregularly. I have to admit I am very stiff and not flexible. But now at 28 years I am fully working on it. Getting slow progress. Let's hope for the best. 🤗🤗🤗

Awesome video. I feel like this re-iterates your flexibility Q&A video's message that "It's a skill, you need to practice the skill, there's no program for juggling you just have to do it" kind of thing. I feel like a lot of the internet wants a "do this program for guaranteed results" kind of thing, instead of "30 minutes of split training" they'd want the exactly reps and sets and micromanaging every last detail. In reality if you want to get good at something you just have to keep at it and practice and listen to your body.

Yes. Exactly exactly exactly. People count shit and forget that what they're counting is shit. Whatever happened to practicing things? Kick a soccer ball for 10 sets of 3 reps? who the fuck does that? yet hordes of crossfitters and powerlifters and resistance trainees do just that sort of nonsense. Fucking drives me nuts.

Hey, thanks for this vid, i have been working on flexibility for quite a while this year and progress has been slow, my flexibility was ok, but the splits weren’t getting there. After watching this vid, I did just that - the splits and got the front split within 1 day. Thanks! Great advice

This video helped me not only with splits but with all my training because I was indeed confused with everything the internet said but like you said you can't be agressive when being confused. So I made it simple for myself and trained directly the things I want to achieve and its paying off. Thank you for your wise advice!

Wow... you are so right. “If you want it you have to go directly at it. If you’re confused, you’re not aggressive.” And yes, so many splits tutorials how to get there and all this prep before doing it. I will remember these two important points as I keep on with it. I bought the book, really, really good, lots of insight knowledge, we used the same approach back in the 80's to kick higher while practicing Karate. Everybody watching this video, do you selves a favor and listen to what he is saying. I decided to recover my split (last time was 1992, and I was like 4 inches from a full split) and the book and this videos have helped me to improve very fast.

Im a little older than you. I learned the side spilt when i was 10 years old after watching van dam in blood sport. I did it in a day. Im just lucky i didnt get hurt i guess but it had to be way easier just bc i was so young. I lost it after about 4 years. No one else could do it and it made me feel different. As a preteen it was enough to make me acutely ashamed. Now im almost 40 and trying to get it again.

I swear you're 100% right and I totally agree with you ! You can't do it if you don't have any goal in it! My goal is to get a perfect flare and I want it so bad that I can't even express you so to get the perfect flare I am doing stretches and pushing everyday to split my legs and it's been 3 days I am doing it and I can't tell you how much I achieved it because I don't think about pain or soreness I just keep doing it and keep pushing my self down and down and flares are always in my mind when ever I do it even I see myself doing flares when I do my leg splits so when you said you had to win the competiton and you were visualising everything suddenly my situation popped up in my mind ! Each and every word said by you is 100% right I never think of how many days will it take to do full leg splits all I have in mind is I have to do the perfect flare btw I am 22 years old. You inspired me alot thankyou buddy ❤❤

this video is awesome. i liked that idea of watching anime or just a series while stretching, ill try it, i think it will keep my mind occupied and not focusing on the pain while stretching

I had a similar experience getting front and side splits. I'd arranged to go to Beijing to spend a year at the university of physical education to study wushu. And I knew I wanted to train at Shaolin and at shi cha hai with the Beijing wushu team. Anyway a bunch of goals that in my head meant "it". "A realisation of dreams" or some such. So I just did it. Everyday. Stretch kicks, pushing into the splits etc etc. Just doing it. Got the splits (still have them at 40 now). Shitty thing was that having the splits is barely the minimum in wushu. Got to get your toes under your chin... But you are 100% right John, having a goal and just fucking doing it.

Acrobolix yeah, but not without effort. Still incorporate stretching into my workouts. Like I'm sure you have experienced, there have been times through injury, illness or just laziness where I've lost them a bit, but they came back. I can't get my toes to my chin anymore, but that's really just because I haven't made the effort to stay that flexible.

I've read this guy's articles he wrote on flexibility and nutrition 15 years ago. He even wrote like eight pages on the importance of water when he was a teenager and it was awesome, totally got me drinking way more. He has a real knack for teaching and explaining through his writing, his book is no doubt excellent. I just might pick it up.

I applied this philosophy to my training and competing in Wushu after coming out of retirement in 2012. In my mid thirties I became twice consecutive European Wushu Champion, even beating Russia IN Russia at the last European Championships. It's also this attitude and mindset that helped me grow my business so I could buy the things I wanted in life (3 Aston Martins, and nice house etc etc), and to continue to fall in love more and more with my partner even after 14 years together. Sorry I don't know your name, but your philosophy is the mindset of all truly successful people in the world, in every field. Viewers can take this advice to the bank. It works. Check out Napoleon Hill. This is the birthplace of this philosophy. If you can see it and you can believe it, then you can (and will) achieve it. Awesome video JUJI bloke. When it comes to visualization, that works with almost any goal. I wanted to move to Japan and my goal would be made much easier with a BS. (Like Juji's split making winning much easier) So, I signed up for WGU in the computer field (which I had already been working in for years) and I got my full bachelors in less than 3 months. I had to know EXACTLY why I needed to achieve this goal, along with an aggressive time-frame for doing it, which was initially 1 year. I ended up completely demolishing my already lofty goals. And yes, I found a job in Japan a couple months later. I've been living in Japan for the last couple years.

I've been training my flexibility for ~6 months and the main mistake i made is doing weird a*s splits "preparation" stretches for the first 3 months. I had next to none progress. For the next 3 months i did less dumb random stretches and more splits - I went from 40cm off the ground to 25 cm off the ground. Now I'm doing just a quick warmup and then working solely on splits, let's see where i end up in next 3 months.

I've been trying to get the splits for 2 years, and frankly, your advice, just do it, is the most effective, and that's what I'll tell people, but don't push too far beyond your normal range of motion.

This is true also for me, I stopped split training after about 10 months of training. A month later I just tried the middle split and I slowly and I found my self on the floor. I couldn't believe it, I called my friend who was in another room to come witness it.

I hope you know how inspirational you are, at least to guys like me. The first time I saw this jacked dude with the weird name doing splits and tricks on KZbin, all I could think was, "Huh! This IS possible!" And for the longest time, I didn't have a reason to pursue it; I was already "strong enough, flexible enough" for the stuff I was doing. But it always stayed in the back of my mind: "This guy chased the pinnacle of two things everyone thought were impossible to have in one body." Now I'm almost 40, and I'm gonna chase it again. 😏 Responsibly.

Your book will be my x-mas present to myself. I've got about a foot left on my side split. Practising every day after I've done my strength training. Always feels good when you get an extra inch less to the floor. :) Keep up the good work Juji! You're an inspiration \m/

Keep those trophies, Jon!!! It is a huge part of what got you where you are today, whether you realize it or not. If you didn't get first place you might not have continued with flexibility as much as you have. From the sounds of it, it was a very important chapter of your life. It have you that extra drive to better your style. If you ever (this is unlikely) start calling back and start losing strength, flexibility or even motivation, I'm sure looking over your achievements would be a huge push for you to get back at it.

Previously, old videos essentially served this purpose for me. Now, I honestly don't feel these motivate me, nor do I need them to. I just don't feel I need motivation anymore in the traditional way, the best way to describe the way I feel on a day by day basis is like a 9 year old kid who can't break away from playing a video game to eat a family dinner, I'm too engaged caught up "playing" with all my projects. I'm never at a point where I feel outside of it, or that I need something to "push" me back in. I'm not trying to be big and bad by saying this, it's just the truth. And what I really need is someone or something to remind me to stop saying "yes" to every travel/trip/opportunity so that my health doesn't cave in on me since I basically live in airports and cars 50% of my waking hours now cumulatively for a month's time. I don't care who you are, that shit catches up to you.

Well, fuck me. You're absolutely right. Being able to see those physical differences is much more than something sitting on your wall. If you're traveling for most of your career in this business you will lose a lot of what your business is, yourself, your body, your mind. You've always been straight to the point with everything as long as I have watched you, which is a pretty long time. You have never sugar coated anything, you get straight to business!! I will say this now, not that I really have an impact on your life, but. Cut back on the traveling, if a magazine wants to interview you or whatnot, make them come to you. Make it a phone call or email. You keep that time you would be using to travel to keep for yourself. Put the time towards an extra workout, tricking or even making a new recipe. As a long time watcher/fan, I wanna see you grow, I wanna see your name to be the headline of male fitness everywhere. Another question completely off topic, the Facebook page Jujimufu, is that run by you or is it run by a fan? I see that posts onto the page need to be approved. I was thinking this was maybe you not wanting people to spam their companies or get rich quick schemes everywhere. I put a question up there asking about when I go to gym. I was asking that when I go to gym I start feeling really light headed and sick in the stomach towards the end of my workouts. I don't have shitty died, I eat pretty decent 99% of the times. Never go to gym on an empty stomach, always after a hefty meal, I've even tried it with smaller meals. I obviously give myself about an hour to an hour and a half to let my food digest and absorb the energy that comes from my meal. It's worse after chest days and legs days. It's more the compound movements that get me hard. I don't eat take away thinking it is healthy, like subway. I have no heart conditions, diabetes or blood pressure issues that have been detected withing the last 6 months. I know that I can't be the only with this issue. I was just wondering if you had any advice on this issue I am facing? I know you have a very busy schedule, I do not expect an answer straight away. take your time in your response.

No Bullshit video!, to do splits, practice splits, end of argument!. Like the approach, i think the same way. There are endless videos in the ocean of internet about "Tips & Tricks and exercises" to achieve the splits and I have not seen a single comment saying "I achieved it following your techniques" , all bullshit talks! but this video, I like it when he says "didn't have any extra stretches, wasn't counting how long I was doing isometric contractions..blah blah". just love it!

Hey Jujimufu! My brother and I love your videos, man. Just subscribed so please keep them coming. I especially love this video because I too want to get down to full front and side splits. Everything you said in this video was spot on with what I am going through... I have a meaningful reason why I want to do them (student of traditional Chinese Kung Fu and want to kick butt in a forms competition and also be the best in my school). I am exactly what you described; being the opposite of you as a 15 year old. In other words I have a full time job, wife, kids, mortgage, etc. However, that's not the issue. I am very able to make time for my splits training and I am already pretty flexible. Here is what I am worried about... I am 38 years old. I want to get down to the full splits but I'm afraid that I might end up injuring myself or it might not even be possible at my age. What say you? Is it possible for a guy that's almost 40 to get down to a full split?

Wow! Such a good video. I have never thought about those things you said, I always worry about overtraining, and trying to find that golden exercise that will get me the middle split. I have never thought about just doing the middle split is suppose to be done. I will take your wisdom, and create a goal. I will use the exercise you did for the middle split. My goals are the be flexibility in my powerlifting training, and my tricking, My flexibility now is so bad, I always want a middle split, and I have never thought I will be doing, but now is time. From this day I will start my journey to the middle split.

@@Diron314 I have not trained often as I want, but in the start, I trained it for three months aggressively and I could see big progress. I train 30 minutes a day, and try to push myself further into the split, it can hurt a little bit, but not too much then I will go a little up again.

Yes! I do believe, and realized through martial art training a goal like this is 90 percent mental and 10 percent physical. That 10 percent is a mother, but it can be done. OSU!

Beyond a certain age splits are a genetic feature. There are cons out there telling you otherwise so you would buy their products etc. but for adults extreme stretching can be a huge waste of time. Unlike endurance, body composition or strength flexibility can be maxed out relatively quickly and you need to figure out which body parts of yours respond to stretching and which ones don't. I've always had very flexible shoulders but not much back or hip flexibility. I found that my hamstrings responded well to stretching but no matter how flexible my hamstrings became my hip structure was not built for true splits in either direction and that's fine. I could warm up, hold stretches for several minutes and almost get to side splits and 20 minutes later all my "gains" would be gone. I realized that it was a time waster (as was backbending) and when I got into dancing I realized that being able to contort yourself into a tortured position is not necessary in ballet, modern dance, jazz and especially not the most masculine dance of all which is hip hop; all you need is NORMAL flexibility like being able to tie your shoes and move around in space without disabling pains. If you want to move gracefully and improve your movement (as opposed to size and strength) as an adult, get into dancing or martial arts; you'll get real bang for your buck that does not disappear in minutes. The extreme flexibility stuff is something mediocre karate guys etc. came up with back in the day to glorify their hobbies and to look tougher while avoiding challenges from boxers and wrestlers. Also the people you see goofing around in talent shows may be termed "dancers" but they're using their contortion foolery to take your mind away from their lack of dance technique. I'm repeating myself here but aside from rhytmic gymnastics flexibility is not something you should sweat too much about.

Totally agree that people tend to overthink their training, but the fact that you were 15-years old was precisely one of the reasons that you could get away with training every single day, even when sore. For most adults trying to learn the splits trying to emulate that would be asking for an overuse injury. I enjoyed your vid and it has inspired me to be more consistent, but I’d be wary that some viewers may try to emulate your method when they probably shouldn’t.

You can definitely be overaggressive with your stretching. The big takeaway should be the consistency. His vision kept him motivated and committed. And he was 15, so his recovery was way better than if you're trying to do this at 30. Which is not to say you can't do it. But you can also injure yourself and lose range. But if you're committed and working progressively, you can get there.

Juji, I wish I could say my splits are from hard work but, my instructor back in the late 90s for TKD stomped me into the splits with his foot. Years later now I'm trying to get'em back and it's like half a foot off from full side splits and it's almost complete from doing what you did except in 30min increments.

I enjoyed this video and all, but I would like to point out that right after watching this youtube recommended the video Juji made 3 years later about having knee pain for the past 12 years lmao... so personally i think i will take caution not to over do it like 15 yr old Juji. Also in the yoga world front splits are Hanumana-asana. Named after the immortal monkey god Hanuman who is humble, strong and can leap over the seas and snatch the sun. Sound familiar?
