I thought Michael Gambon was great as a Scrooge like character, and it being inspired by A Christmas Carol was a treat for me as that's a book I read every year at Xmas. I loved the idea of fog fish, and I really enjoy seeing strange stuff like that in Doctor Who. Little things like that really add to the worlds they visit and make them feel more alive. Definitely an episode with a lot of gladness and sadness. Hope season 6 brings you just as much joy as season 5 did. 💚

Secondly, we find out in an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures that the Doctor also drops them off on a honeymoon planet, "...which isn't what you think. it's not a planet for a honeymoon, it's a planet on a honeymoon. It married an asteroid." :D I just don't know if the events of this episode took place before or after the SJA episode, though it might be reasonable to assume after and it was the Doctor making up for the start of their honeymoon being a bit rubbish to start.

This is my all-time favourite Christmas special and one of my favourite episodes in general! I rewatch it every Christmas morning morning before everyone else gets up and I think it's the epitome of Season Five's cosmic fairy tale theme. It's just so beautiful in every possible way and I can't help but gush over it. Let's not even get started on that song. ❤❤ The RTD Christmas specials were good, but Moffat really makes them magical. Of special significance to we Australians, this was the first episode to air here on the same day as the UK. It was released on ABC iView early Boxing Day, at the same time as its UK broadcast, then aired on the actual ABC that night. For the first few years of New Who we had to wait several months, then Season Five was a big deal because we were only two weeks behind, then finally as of this episode we'd be in synch going forward. Karen Sardick was played by the late, great Michael Gambon, who you'd know as Dumbledore from the 3rd to 8th Harry Potter movies. Meanwhile, Abigail was played by Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins. Both were incredibly big guest stars for the show. Also, just to clarify, the Christmas specials are their own separate thing, broadcast between seasons on Christmas Day, usually without any major connections to the previous or following season. The isomorphic controls joke is a classic Who reference. The TARDIS was said to have isomorphic controls at one point, yet there are countless times when other people are seen working the controls. That's why the Doctor says there's no such thing, it's a bit of an in-joke. I'm so glad you liked this episode Jules, it really does hold a special place in my heart. I also love that you've already latched onto the fez as a running gag. Season 6 is my least-favourite of Eleven's seasons, but it's still got some great stuff and I'm looking forward to seeing what you think.

It just entranced me so and I had forgotten for a long while since it’s been a while since I had checked this episode out. It’s a long story as to why I stopped watching Doctor Who, but I think mainly because of your starting it on your channel I have gotten into it all over again. Anyway, as a recommendation, there a fan choir version (A lockdown choir) of this you can find on KZbin, featuring people all over the world singing together. It was recorded during the pandemic some years ago when everyone was on lockdown. It’s just fantastic.

Hello, Jules! 💜 What is more Christmas than Dickens and his redemptive “A Christmas Carol” ? I have not much to say here, as I found your reaction to be perfect, and your thoughts, as ever, to be very on point. 🤩 I always enjoy this episode - it is a beautiful Christmas treat, and so very well done, as you point out. The added “Doctor” things fit so seamlessly into the timeless tale, whilst showing that time, can indeed be re-written, as viewers are pulled through an emotional gamut, just wonderfully done. There are so many bits of marvelous humor in this one, and Matt Smith’s the perfect Doctor for the script. Rory and Amy, having a tad bit of Cosplay in the process. Just flat out funny, and fun. The Doctor and the chimney entrance always gets me , and it leads to my favorite lines here - “ … my whole brain just went ‘What the hell!’ … or, as I’ve always known him, Jeff.” and then “ … in 900 years of time and space, I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important.” Matt Smith, going 0 - 60 in the blink of an eye, hilarious, to gravely serious., and back again. I also always enjoy his later “Marilyn! Get your coat!” And they make it to Australia! 😂 The back and forth, rewriting time, on the fly, is excellent and You, at 22:06, 🥲 the excellent encapsulation of the emotion this scene is so full of. The tension, the music, and the beautiful voice of Katherine Jenkins, just all work together so well here. Your reaction certainly invokes the feeling of “first time view”, but what is truly special, to me anyway, is that this moment doesn’t really ever lose its power - it remains a somewhat full on frontal assault on one’s senses … every time. 🥰 Excellent reaction. I have been waiting for this particular one, and I am very pleased that you were able to retain bits of the final song and its scene, safe from the blocking Scrooges, as I am very pleased to have seen this with you. Thank you for all your work making another great reaction. 😊 Have a wonderful day, Jules. 💜🤗💜 You may have to flip the AC switch, as winds blast the area with the promised, continuing heatwave… Yikes! 🥵 Be relaxed and safe. 😊

This episode was a gem. I love how they combined the more earth-bound matters with the other out-of-this-world things. The pressing symbolism, like how the rich take advantage of the poor, how parents and loneliness leave a huge imprint on people, and most importantly, how time is the most valuable thing we have, and we still fail to conquer it. I have a soft spot for Doctor Who xmas specials, but i believe this one nailed it. And hearing Katherine Jenkins sing...absolutely magical. Isn't he erased or his experience tainted by his younger self seeing what the future held? Its a time paradox and no one thought to question it because of the emotional scenes.
