Every day, there's a new reason for me not to be on TikTok. I've seen poc creators defending Julia's choice to partner with Kanye, knowing all she knew about him. Honestly, if she had just said I thought my P could change him, I would have bought it. But it's the fact she realizes what she was wrong, and she has to create a reason to defend her choice to profit from a violent misogynist man. Always remember, girl boss, gatekeep, and gaslight.

Rhetoric like this parallels societies need for women to be the perfect victim. Once a famous woman starts speaking on feminist talking points they are held to an even more impossible standard in feminist spaces. There is not enough emphasis on how society/tik tok put her in this position.

I’ve been WAITING for the Julia Fox video essay because sis had needed one. I’m really not going to blame Julia for some teenagers on tiktok thinking any women with a quirky personality and fashion sense is a feminist, it happens all the time Saying that, Julia has been able to blow up so quickly by adopting the qualities of a modern day socialite. She is extremely keyed in to the current ‘discourse’ and optics of the Twitter/Insta-Verse, she knows what she needs to say to draw a certain audience and is aware enough of her whiteness and it’s privilege to use that awareness to disarm any suspicion black people may have of her (think the Ziwe interview) All of this allows her to date a Kanye West without much backlash. On top of that, she’s crafted her persona in the mould of a Kim Kardashian style valley girl airhead reality star, while also making it seem like she’s trolling, being satirical or critiquing that archetype. This means she either seems like a genuine valley girl to the people who love that archetype or a smarter-than-she-seems white girl making fun of her whiteness to those that don’t. This manoeuvre, for me, is clearly a response to the current era we’re in. Most people are tired of whiteness and tired of zero representation for marginalised people. Modelling a Gwen Stefani or a Kim Kardashian is not the option anymore, these women appropriate other races carelessly and shamelessly. White women who want to be popular and relevant know we expect more of them now and while other white celebs try (badly) to adapt themselves to this change, Julia seems to have found the right grift that evades critique while still being foolish and white.

Julia Fox is a raging heroin addict (as we can see by how gaunt she's been looking over the past year), and an ex yacht girl who was scouted by Kanye's team as a contract girlfriend for PR, end of story. Of COURSE the broad is going to lie about how she met Kanye and why she dated him. Anyone with a brain knows the truth and she's trying desperately to spin the 15 minutes of fame she got from the relationship into a lasting career of some kind, because she's an attention whore just like Kanye and the rest of the Kartrashians. I really don't know why anyone is taking anything she says at face value or giving any legitimacy to it by responding.

I’m glad you said this, bc when that uproar came from that person calling Julia out bc of HOW they said it..I was scratching my head. Today’s feminism focuses 99% on just vibes and feeling good in the moment and “if a woman did it and felt empowered, it’s good!” and critical thinking is often left out. Like was that person’s delivery cringey/had sexist tones? I guess…but the point still stands!! And Julia is a rich white woman who benefitted from that, being with Kanye and is now preaching about stuff, it’s very ironic and disingenuous

No!! If *you* decide that you wanna be in community with someone as toxic as Kanye, especially in such an intimate manner, then *you* have just now opened yourself up for a bevy of critiques. If you were the Feminist Icon^TM that you act like (but deny because the optics of calling yourself a feminist are still not cute), you would not be able to be in the same room as that man. I think Julia Fox is the less insidious version of capital F feminism. The worst ones wouldn’t date Jan. 6 bros (or Ye types) because that’s too obviously contradictory. They’ll instead find a neo-liberal, “I’m-the-homie-&-my-best-friend-is-Black” White men (think Gary V). Honestly you coulda just said “girl, bye” to Julia and I would applaud 😂. Her nonsense really didn’t deserve your energy. ❤

I think we will have a more useful analysis of we take a moment to aknowlage the fact that the women who supported Trump and dated Jan 6 rioters are themselves open conservatives who emphatically reject feminism. The broad support Trump had from white women is more of a statement of the dominace of conservativism among white women and the failures of "white" feminism to really recruit among its target demographic.

The idea of modern feminism keeps changing so much that I feel like there is no place for me to safely identify with the politics. Especially, when they so rarely serve us but require so much labour from us. There is something so insidious and truly tiring about women like Julia and their performative politics which moneterily and socially benefits them all while harming the women (politics) they claim to be about.

All of this. There was always something about celebrity sex pots being feminists that make me want to roll my eyes. When Beyonce started speaking on her "feminism" years ago it irked me so hard. It's such lies and this brand of crafting a career chasing the male gaze while also saying they are feminists is such bs but no one is allowed to say so. Now this type of feminism is all we see
@amethystdream8251
@amethystdream8251 9 ай бұрын
I too have bowed out of the feminism movement. Until women transcend social dynamics centered around envy, comparison and competition, there isn't much we can do around feminism. I've upset a lot of women by bringing these themes up. These celebrities are simply making money off of our collective desire to distract ourselves from the reality - which is, women are not truly united, we haven't been supporting each other irl and in the day to day, and we still hold each other to superhuman standards while looking the other way when it comes to the men around us. We call people out online but we don't hold them accountable irl. It's much easier to complain about feminism on the internet than to do the work of healing our bullshit, and balancing our egos out so that we can sincerely connect with each other.

there's a difference between being there for someone who has learned and internalized a lot of harmful msgs (which let's be real we all have) and being an active support to someone who is consistenly actively harming people. in ye's case, swaths and swaths of people. language has the capacity to hold harm, as much as ppl like to hide behind 'sticks and stones'. if that were true our societies would be nothing like what they are today. people would be nothing like what they are. anyway. commenting for the algorithm mainly because this video was rly good and i appreciated it a lot.

Hmm I agree with so much said here but I think what’s interesting in her response to dating Kanye is she did admit how problematic her thinking was not saying we should forgive but I feel lik there are many women like her in this day and age including me who struggle with the dynamics of engaging in feminist thought and also learning how to adopt it into your everyday life and to which degree when we are still under a patriarchal system I find that sometimes you are going to find yourself fucking up sometimes because you will unknowingly or knowingly choose to opt into “anti feminist” behaviors as a form of self preservation and self preservation can come in many forms it’s not just about surviving in the literal sense. So I find just like her my actions can be hypocritical or confusing for me I think what one does in their personal life is different from the change they are doing for others I partake in these types of discourses not for myself because I know I will never see the change in my lifetime but this is for the women of the future so that certain decisions that past women and women of today have made don’t have to feel lik an option for them tbh Julia foxs behavior from what you explained in this video and what I have heard is like many women I know in my life personally who are still navigating how to truly be free in a society that is constantly surrounded by patriarchal values it can seem impossible not to fuck up once in a while in playing into those toxic dynamics the only difference is Julia fox is in the spotlight and the women I know are not all I hope is for a future that women do not have to feel as though they have to play into these harmful dynamics in order to survive.

Well said. Famous woman start getting held to an NEW impossible standard once they start participating feminist talking points. Nothing ever will change if we point out the negatives but then not acknowledge how the system effects their choice.

I definitely fell into her lil trap and im so glad u made this video. white women need to be more aware of these kinda issues with white feminism. so glad u called out the fact that white women love to use performative activism online but tend to vote overwhelmingly red. thank u sm for this video!!!!

@@dgtlmyooz yeah, I agree, but it was never, could never give that. She's a comedian/satirist deeply entrenched in white owned institutions, jokingly poking the bear from the inside. I like how she throws white passive aggresiveness back at her guests but ultimately it's just another form of entertainment. The revolution CANNOT be televised ever.

Tbh the "drama" between Bella and Julia would not exist if Bella was more feminine presenting, or a more cis passing person. Julia thought she could police her use of the word bitch when she clearly, as stated in the follow up vid isn't invested in any kind of real feminism. What she's invested in is policing queer people while dating a misogynist antisemite. That's all. She isn't anything special or new just bc she bleached her eyebrows, and its interesting that someone sooo invested in how she "opted into ugly" is so into policing queer people who use she/her pronouns bc they don't look like stereotypical women

I think we need to be mindful of the fact that controlling and abusive men do a good job of getting their new partners on their side and weaponizing them once an ex leaves them. Case and point: the way kim bullied Amber. Abusers benefit from creating tension between exes because they don't want the women to compare notes. And this is not to say amber, kim, or julia are free of sin but we do need to aknowlage that the broader problem here is Kanye's pattern of entitled Misogynistic behavoir (that can very well lead to violence)...we don't actually know the dynamic between him and julia (thought give his past and the short length of the relationship it would be fair to say that it probobly was not a good one) and at this time it would be more prudent to wait out the impulse to coment on it...each day seems to reval a new level of Kanye related awfulness and with that bigger and more powerful enablers (Fox News, TMZ, the entire fashion industry, Elon Musk, Johnny Depp's Lawyers, and a former president).

I have always felt extremely off ab Julia fox and never known why I thought it was just me, I just think feminism goes so much deeper than being able to literally say “fck the man”. Her back and forth with azalea banks was not something I would’ve participated in, even if I don’t agree with azalea banks it is not in my brand of feminism to try and make black women look goofy on the internet nor do I want to help facilitate that.
