It’s bitter sweet to watch Bream , feel sad he is gone and all his brilliance with him , never saw him live but I was lucky enough to see Williams live twice , he was incredibly good , This concert of course was just a sideline for them but still they must have put a lot of work in , Williams once said by orchestral standards both he and Bream were dead average readers but by guitar standards they were extremely good , what musicians they really are !

yes, bream was my favourite in terms of tone production, williams for technique, posture and the way he looked so relaxed when playing even virtuoso music. i saw them both live a few times in the 1980s, also segovia. i saw bream twice, once i was in the front row where he played guitar and lute. in the front row you could hear him humming the tune as he played in the quieter sections. i met john williams backstage in huddersfield uk and he signed a bach double album i had and asked me what the sound was like in the audience, as a young man i was a bit star struck and mumbled something like it was amazing.

Utterly exquisite playing. I truly loved when these two men played duets together.

Agreed with John Malcolm about the camera--but this concert, put simply, makes me smile. An unparalleled pleasure.

When you see them together, or hear them talking about each other, I'm not sure they liked each other or got on. In many ways they had very different approaches (just look at what they're wearing!) and, personally, Williams' playing doesn't do all that much for me, it seems to lack a little bit of expression. But the Debussy pieces at the end are full-on beautiful. Their two albums together (again) are well worth getting

11:17 Julian gets a little laugh out of Williams with that playful and rambuctious run. Was improvising a couple of extra notes there, or is it something inside between he and John?

A chapel was built so serve the soul of the believer not the ears of the profane, which is something Mr. Bream should probably know.

Not bad for a hobbyist - think the older guy might have a future if he keeps practicing ...😊👍😉😅

The camera person does not seem to know where the main action is at any given time.

John Malcolm , doesn't bother me, I listen to the music, I mean, that's what music is for, after all !

Agreed. I was listening to this on my headphones while working, not watching the concert. There's a voicing that Bream plays at 47:15. When I heard that I thought "what was that?!?". Being a guitarist, I was interested in the fingering. Of course, at that point the camera cuts to Williams' face. But, all is not lost. While certain aspects of the playing aren't captured, the camera person - inadvertently, perhaps - does capture some other interesting (and, at times, non-musical) moments. Note for example that the late actor Brian Dennan can be seen in the audience at 47:51.
