Saw the programme and was surprised to see him go to napsbury hospital.I live in the village where it was.Its a huge site ,and at one time it was totally self sufficient. There was even a railway station,its own farm orchards and much more .Its now an estate of expensive dwellings

In a way his grandfather was LUCKY to NOT see any direct action. Depression is one thing. PTSD is REALLY ANOTHER. I have had depression badly. My grandfather had PTSD and was on pills so he wouldn't have night terrors for the REST OF HIS LIFE. Imagine over 70 years on your dreams are STILL highly vivid and your back in the warzone with unseen enemy soldiers shooting at you in heavy jungle.

Didn't they say in the last section that his grandfathers squadron was bombed with heavy losses in France and he was in that.... sounds quite direct and traumatic

@@doublelightangel I think she must have missed that, because it was obvious he was not lucky and had plenty of reason to have PTSD. People in my family also suffered survivor's guilt after horrific incidents in the military.

My grandfather was a Naval Officer and Chief Engineer and had terrible nightmares after the war, so much so he'd physically lash out and shout, and my grandmother couldn't sleep with him any more, it was too scary. He had no medication for it at all. I do know what it's like to experience that as a child and it was a bit unnerving and I felt so sorry for him, but he just wouldn't talk about his experiences.

Mechanic loses the use of a hand and you don't understand why or how that affected him mentally and emotionally. What are you people? Have you no empathy?
@neilburns8869 Жыл бұрын
The physical accident would have been bad enough but mentally they wouldn't really have been as aware as we would be now and of course he would likely have received no help at all in that respect which sounds very very difficult.
