Before he had a stroke Mills Lane was a tremendous referee, he was always on point, and knew exactly when a fighter had enough. Look how much post KO concern he shows and after care pep talk he gives to The Hawk. Even his own corner couldn’t get a look in whilst Lane was on the job! The danger is that ifyou are asleep, your family or your doctors are not likely to notice indications of serious brain damage - such as a seizure or weakness of one side of the body. But is it really necessary to deny yourself sleep following a concussion? In most cases, no. @pretorious700
@pretorious700 8 жыл бұрын
I think he had a congenital problem. I agree the accumulation of blows probably did it. Jackson hit him much harder than Benn. If you watch the Benn fight, the pinches that caused him to take knees weren't that devastating.
@ThatGuyTube
@ThatGuyTube 7 жыл бұрын
Ugh I think it's highly unlikely this fight had anything to do with his brain damage. Benn dived in and fell, headbutting him hard between the eyes. From that point on McClellan wasn't okay, he took a knee right away and couldn't stop blinking. It's obvious that's what caused the damage to his frontal lobe and subsequent swelling and brain injury.

Yeah I'm certain that Jackson was p4p punching king. Anyone can tell by the nature and the variations of his ko wins. He would hit a guy with ONE shot and they would stiffen and look paralyzed on their feet. Plus I saw him do that with the Overhand Right, Left Hook, both right/left uppercuts....and one time A JAB!!! it was a power jab but a jab nonetheless. Yes Julian was the most powerful guy all-time.

Gerald was 6'1 i'm confident he could've knocked out Heavyweights with some of those Bombs. Very sad to see what happened to him! & God Bless his Sister's for taking care of him when everybody else left. & It's just amazing to think he might've sustained a brain injury during this fight & still won the Title like wow. Whether that blood-clot developed before or during this fight you can clearly see its there at the end of the fight with the blinking indicating the pressure behind the eyes and the tremendous headache. If you have a "tremendous headache" that makes you want to "sleep for 2 or 3 days" you probably should not sleep it off but go to the doctor folks! Hat's off to Gerald McClellan he is an incredible Warrior! The fact he had the heart to just push on as if it was nothing serious is just incredible. Most people are hesitant to get help especially when your a Warrior like McClellan!

Knowing what we know now about what would happen to Gerald McClellan that would not only end his boxing career and almost his life, one can't help but wonder if this fight was the catalyst of the G Man's horrible fate..... Gerald's next couple of fights were won with ease and he barely got hit at all but during the fight with Nigel Benn the nightmare that was to become Gerald's life manifested before he even left the ring. In the ambulance on the way to the hospital Gerald asked his trainer "what the FUCK happened? Did he knock me out?" To which his trainer replied no he was not knocked out he was counted out when he took a knee and did not rise before the ten count. Gerald said that he did not even know he had taken a knee and was counted out. Taking that into consideration, you have to acknowledge the level of toughness Gerald possessed and let's be honest about it. The man was literally on death's doorstep at the end of that fight and what does he do? He proceeds to knock Nigel Benn down again!! Gerald took some massive shots from Benn but he also took some bombs from Julian Jackson who hits harder than Nigel Benn. He took punches that have separated men from their consciousness and kept coming forward. It begs the question that maybe Gerald's chin was too good for his own good and instead of being KO like most everyone else would have been, he continued to absorb tremendous punishment to his head making the situation more dire with each blow to the head he sustained. Gerald McClellan will always be remembered as the gladiator that he was and still is. A warrior with otherworldly power for his size and arguably the best liver shot the sport has ever seen. The way he disguised that liver shot made it appear to not even be that hard of a punch but watch what happens whenever he lands it. God bless you and your family Gerald. Especially his sister Lisa who is his primary care giver and a beautiful angel here on Earth

Eric George When do you suggest he was in his prime? A hard puncher no doubt but I honestly think Jackson and his power is overrated. Name you a harder puncher than Jackson in this division? Sure. John "the Beast" Mugabi that fought Hagler in 1986 was I think the hardest hitting boxer in Middleweight history. He was never the same after that defeat to whom I regard as the GOAT at Middleweight, Marvelous Marvin Hagler. By the way I think everyone including Jackson, McCallum etc avoided "the Beast" like AIDS before that loss to Hagler.
