Wow! I'm the voice you hear let out a little 'yeah' right as julian gets started. This song was the first song of his I ever heard. I walked into the practice room at uni and heard my mate, who I was with at this show, playing this song. I sat and listened in awe, and told him that of he had written that to go get it recorded and make his first million. What a special moment to share this song with him, capping off a truly special night of music. I have never been moved to involuntarily whoop and wail like I was watching Julian perform here in Leeds. Thanks Mr Lage!

I can confirm, I was the guy playing Ryland in the practice room and also had the privilege of attending the Leeds gig with my very good friend. When he played Ryland it felt like everything had come full circle! I wish I'd played Tributary for my 3rd year performance as well as he did that night 😅 Truly a night beyond words! 🙌

So great you guys got to see this performance together. Ryland was also the tune that really turned me on to Lage.

Like so many other commenters below, this was/is the canonical Julian tune for me - I've obsessively sought out every rendition of it, and learned to play it (of course, only an approximation of it). He's honestly the biggest why I look forward to picking up the instrument these days. I have so many tunes (Omission, Splendor Riot, Short form, Nocturne) on my 'to learn' list, which keeps growing faster than I can learn the tunes, unfortunately.

World's Fair is, without a doubt, my all-time favorite album. It has been my constant companion through every moment, whether I’m feeling down, happy, or simply going about an ordinary day. I always find myself turning to it for comfort and inspiration. One of my greatest daily joys has been revisiting your solo acoustic guitar videos on KZbin. I watch them almost every day, and lately, seeing you share one video a day has brought me so much happiness. Now, I have a treasure trove of incredible performances to enjoy for a lifetime! When I heard about your solo guitar performances, I was heartbroken to learn that they were only happening in countries where I don’t live. It felt like such a missed opportunity. But these solo guitar videos feel like the perfect gift for now. They truly make the world a more beautiful place. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Same! World’s Fair has been such a joyful companion to me for years. I’ve thought to myself “wow, thanks goodness I’m alive and have two ears to get to hear this beautiful work of art”. Glad there’s others that feel the same way!

Julian has a way to put simple yet elegant and exquisite melodies together. He is such a story teller with his instrument, that every note has a meaning. The adage "less is more" is truely embodied in this performance: no fuss, only elegance and a great pocket to tell a story and keep the listener engaged until the beautiful climax at the end of the song. Thanks Julian, every performance you share with us is an exquisite moment in time turning into a lifetime memory.

This is also the first song I heard Julian play. You could say it “kind of drew me in a bit” - I now have a KZbin playlist of about 250 performances that is my constant companion, all of Julian’s albums and an almost unhealthy fascination with his music 😂. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve seen him live but it’s well into double figures now. I was at the Brighton show on Sunday with my daughters, wh used to sneak out of their rooms after bedtime to sit together on the top step and listen to me learning and the playing this wonderful tune. Memories for them and a wonderful thing for me to hear. We didn’t get to see Ryland live unfortunately, but it was still a very special night for me and I hope the girls too. :-)

I've wondered watching these videos of Julian faultlessly blend phrasing, dynamics & passion into each performance, how often has he sat backstage thinking 'that could have been better'? The rest of us just watch in awe.
