Listening to Julian is like listening to the history of the last 150 years of guitar music. He moves seamlessly through ragtime and blues and jazz and rockabilly and rock and roll and it all just becomes a coherent whole thing. It's not a genre, it's ALL the genres.
@bendesrosiers35242 ай бұрын
Literally what I was thinking. Is there anything like this man in full flow?

The fearlessness, that’s what I truly admire. That’s true freedom on the instrument.
@obsoletecd-rom2 ай бұрын
@jooohan-i9o I’ve met Julian and seen him live many times. I understand his understated demeanor and calm disposition. All I’m saying is to improvise the way he does (especially in an acoustic set where he’s playing solo), it requires a certain level of courage. Improvising doesn’t always “work” and the way you get to this point is by not being afraid if it doesn’t.

Is a child fearful of playing with their legos, even if adults are standing around watching? Julian is what this world needs more than anything right now - joy, playfulness, freedom. Forget instagram perfection, he is truth and beauty

The best music is on the brink of disaster. Julian’s music is consistently on that line. My favourite live shows ever. Just a wonderful energy and, to your point, a sense of freedom that is really compelling.

The remarquable musicians are the most free ones. Am i listening to jazz here? blues? gipsy? pop? Who cares, it's brilliant !

Julian plays the guitar completely. Loud, soft, high, low, gentle, harsh, fast, slow. He is a pivotal player, like Django or Chet, in our generation. We’re fortunate to see him in concert.

I'm seeing him this weekend. Is he playing a mix of his albums? Mostly from the latest?
@tombyrne86572 ай бұрын
He played tunes from his latest as well as his older ones and some old jazz standards. I don't think he's playing the same stuff at each because in the videos from the other solo gigs he's playing stuff that wasn't played at the Dublin one.
@demejiuk56602 ай бұрын

The outstanding guitarist of the past 20 years, and arguably one of the outstanding improvising musicians alive today of any genre or instrument. I often wonder how much of this talent is ‘simply’ a matter of his softly-spoken and enthusiastic personality. It’s rare to see a musician so obviously enjoying what he is doing every time he performs.
