This is unbelievable. Julian has the most insane technique, yet he never overdoes it. His playing is so tactful and appropriate. We don't often get the chance to see people with this amount of mastery exhibit such restraint. He has the technical ability to constantly overplay, yet he remains musical. It is so refreshing.

For me, this is what I think of as ‘REAL’ music. The artists are wonderful, totally in to interacting in a musical way, creating moment by moment and sacrificing any ego to play MUSIC. It feels so easy, organic. The first time I heard Julian I was immediately in love of his musicality. For those who play jazz, these types of moments where everybody is in sync and everything is jellying just doesn’t happen anywhere as much as it should. Wonderful performance. Wonderful musician. Wonderful music.

i think julian would sound like this on a $10 pawn shop special. he is so in control of how he touches the instrument. the blackface deluxe, and ($375) ellisonic pickup make more of a difference than the shape of the guitar, but 95% of it is him.

Nice bass solo on the first piece. I've been complaining about the requisite bass solos from the vintage jazz combos, because the recordings aren't great, so you get a bunch of muddy, indistinct notes from the upright basses. The percussion continuing minimally is nice, too, and having the guitarist feather in a few soft chords doesn't hurt.
