We will need to find what helps us as unique individuals.
Trust your gut instincts and move towards things that you resonate with. Instead of getting angry with people who are getting better doing things differently to you, put your energy into finding what works for you. People get better in many different ways and they are all helpful.

Thank you Julian! 8 months with tinnitus. I've tried diet, vitamins, exercises, medication. I've tried a lot of things and still can't habituate, very anxious. Still need to try hearing therapy with hearing aids. My tinnitus came with pain. But I don't lose faith. I believe in God promises. I believe in miracles. God bless and heal anyone with this condition.

Hang in there. Mine went. Occasionally I can hear it when I’m trying to sleep or in other quiet environments but mostly it’s completely silent. I had it for a few years and it was horrendous at the beginning. It bothered me so much. I don’t know what caused it but the main thing that I think got it better was it eventually separated from my emotions. Don’t ask me how this happened but rather than being a sound with a bunch of negative emotion attached it just became a sound and I didn’t care about it. I suppose it was annoying but it didn’t scare me anymore or get me down at all. Occasionally I put on white noise on my phone app (and still do from time to time). I couldn’t even tell you when it went (or stopped being constant) because I never really thought about it towards the end. Julian’s videos helped me loads! They always made me feel calm and I think that was the start of it getting better. I know there are lots of different causes and I couldn’t tell you for sure that they all can be cured (although I suspect they can) but I can tell you for sure it’s completely 100% possible for it to not bother you at all eventually! There was one time I remember actually laughing at the absurdity of the sounds that were going on in both ears whilst I was talking with my brother. One ear would be whistling, the other would sound like crickets then there was a heart beat sound that would come and go and then what sounded like a tv being tuned and then morse code. I thought at one point I might be receiving an alien signal. I did see a UFO once actually that was way before. Hope you feel better and also anyone else suffering. You absolutely can and will feel better!

@@Aurelius4114 Thank you for your positive comments that was so good to read. I've had my tinnitus exactly 1 year it was a lovely unwanted Christmas gift!! I've never thought of myself as a stressful person (my wife since has told me otherwise) but maybe I'm hoping that stress is the cause and at least I'm trying to work at calming things down with acupuncture, craniosacral therapy and changing things in my life. My biggest problem as it's the first thing I think of when I wake up is trying to think positive that it's possible to reduce it as yourself and plenty others have done. My negative mindset at times tells me that this dreadful thing has appeared from nowhere and instead of it getting better what's to stop it getting worse!!?? Totally wrong I know but before this I've never been in a position where I can't control an illness or symptom. My tinnitus is in my left ear and a very high pitched swirling sound. It is annoying I just hope psychologically the worst and initial shock is over. Reading messages like yours gives me hope I too can cope and beat this. Sorry for babbling.... I'll keep looking for those UFOs 😊👍

@@crystalclear6660 I’ve had it for years mostly from over exposure to noise but during a period of severe stress it suddenly got much louder. I really struggled especially during evenings and used to dread absolute silence. I was in a really bad place and wasn’t sure how I was going to cope. Then I came across Julian’s videos and he explained what it was, what the causes were and how to help deal with it. Suddenly I wasn’t as scared of it anymore, it wasn’t an overnight fix but did the work he suggested. I can honestly say that the more I calmed down and relaxed the less it invaded my consciousness. Now if I really listen hard in a quiet room I can barely hear it and even if I do, it has absolutely no effect on me and it quickly fades away. It definitely does come back a little if I get stressed, so it’s quite a helpful health monitor in some ways and let’s me know when I need to take it easy :-)

@@sillysaus2326 What of Julian’s recommendations helped you the most? Mine has been so weird of late. Every other day it’s “bad.” But now on those days it’s pretty quiet until about mid afternoon. But evenings is when it’s most difficult. And I know it is what it is because now it occasionally switches ears. For a year and a half it was like my right ear/side of head. So, this is a new thing where my right ear sounds silent and it seems to be on my left. And then close to the time when I went to bed it was flipping down to basically nothing. I don’t get it. I feel very discombobulated. But I have decided to meditate daily because it brings it down to practically zero. I’m hoping with practice it does this more often and for longer periods.

I read the book ( Tinnitus my best friend) and had a Skype session with Julian in 2016. It was my release. Tinnitus is not a problem in itself. It is an alarm system which is helpful. Today ( 2021) I have a cold with headache. And Tinnitus is right back when I clean my nose. But I welcome him. Dear all peers suffering from Tinnitus : do not fight Tinnitus, do not focus on it.

Hey julian i wanted to thank you. 3 years ago i was so scared and was in panic i thought my life was over. I damaged my ears by a loud event and by lissening loud music so i felt hopeless but by watching ur video's i started to accept my tinnitus and since then i was not scared anymore and with a little time it became less and less more noticeable to a poit where i could not even hear it anymore only now when im really stressing or when i am sick and even then when i do notice it its not as loud as it use to be and it stops quickly it is just not relevant anymore so im so happy and i just wanted to say thank u. And for all the people here just know it will get better just relax a bit and try to set ur mind on other things :)

I had it really bad. I mean, really bad. 6 different sounds in my ears and on top of my head, really loud. When I starten to understand tinnitus I started with the no big deal mentality and focus on my life, doing things I love. I changed the way I thought about tinnitus. From hating it to be neutral about it. My tinnitus now is during the day silent. I mean a 0 out of 10. At night it is most of the time a 1 out of 10. Somtimes it's a 2 of a 3 out of 10, but it has for me always to do with stress, unconcious stress. I dont hate it, dont fear it, dont me mad at it.. I just say: ok, what is my body trying to tell me? Do I need to take a stepp back? And when I do and laugh more.. it goes back to a 1 out of 10. 6 sounds are now most of the time 1 or 2 sounds very soft. I'm sure it will improve more and more untill I have total silence 100% of the time.

I have stress induced tinnitus for 1,5 years now and I have tried A LOT in the meantime only to find no progress at all, it has even got worse. I have gotten out of fight and flight mode, daily meditation, went on natural suppements, cranial sacral therapy, several physiotherapists, anti-inflammatory diet, etc etc. I really don’t know what more to do. The thing that I do have noticed is that a lot of people who have noise induced tinnitus get better by themselves after a while. They often do things to make it better and put getting better on that but it’s not realistic in my opinion. I hope one day there will be something that will help for me and my three agonizing sounds.

I’m 5 years now with this , and did the ENT , scan part and found nothing wrong with hearing or inside my ears. I’m now trying to deal with bringing my nervous system out of fight and flight mode which I know will take practice. Trying Wim Hoff breathing and tapping technique. Patience is key but extremely hard as it’s been particularly loud these last few days. Changes pitch every now and then , goes even higher in pitch , it’s horrible. Will keep going and I have my sister to go on this journey with as she suffers to. Thank you. Ps going to try cranial sacral therapy this year , I found a therapist not far from me.

Thank you for this and I am learning so much from this and your website. I used to only get tinitus when I had a really bad migraine and just put it down to my senses being through the roof. In August this year i started getting it 24/7 and it is driving me a bit nuts and is affecting my balance as well, I am waiting for results from an abdomonal scan as my liver stats were wonky. In 2008 I was diagnosed with an Intra Ocular melanoma in my left eye and I have had two types of radiation therapy to kill it, last one was Proton beam therapy at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Since then I have also had bi lateral glaucoma kick up and am waiting for my second trabeculectomy in my goos eye to try and save the sight there. Sorry for the long response but I am glad you are here giving out good info and hopefully I can get an ENT appointment soon. Oh and please everyone get your eyesight checked on a regular basis

I can see and understand your generosity, and thank you very much for it. There is a thin line between being a compulsive skeptic and becoming pessimist and I think personalities more inclined to develop tinnitus are also severely skeptical, and somewhat pessimistic. I know for me, I used to hide my pessimism from myself by saying that I was a realist. There was so much, bad and good, I had my eyes closed to, and opening my eyes to it lead to an existential crisis, which lead to anxiety, which lead to cyberchondria and eventually lead to tinnitus. So I know, it is clear to me, that your kind suggestions are going to help me. I also have allergies, TMJ and very tense muscles, so I know the solution has to be personalized. My ENT was very kind and helpful in this way. He told me to don't focus on the sound, that if there is no evident cause for it, it is probably multifactorial and the exercise, stress relieve and healthy living will help. He was so kind as to not say it is permanent! Just as you suggest :) I love you guys. I'll be commenting in a few months about my success story, Im sure.

Hello Julian. Do you think that people can really do meditation and benefit of it when we have tinnitus ? How can we focus in silence when the sounds are right there? Any tips?
@JulianCowanHill
@JulianCowanHill 2 жыл бұрын
I think gentle body practice like yoga or slow walking meditation for 10 or 15 minutes is far more beneficial. Instead of focusing on the silence in the room and the noise in your ears you're using all of your body awareness to focus on slow walking which takes up a lot of body coordination. This is easy and doable help settle her mind nerves and shift the focus away from your ears. Everyone is different and some people find meditation very helpful and other people find bodywork much more calming. Bodywork calms the mind. It's much harder to calm the mind with the mind in my opinion. You can find guidance on how to do a walking meditation in the audio section on my app here: www.quietenapp.com I hope this helps.
