Hey Monday meant a lot to me as a 12-year-old girl who just wanted to see women sing the kind of music I loved most. I loved them even more than Paramore, and I think Hey Monday were the second female-fronted band I got into, which made it feel like Hayley Williams being a girl-singer was less of a fluke. It's a shame they never got to thrive outside of Paramore's shadow or that a lot of people saw them as lesser or a knock-off. As much as their music is very dated now, it still has a special place in my heart. And whenever I relisten to a lot of my favorite songs, I still remember what it was about them that stuck with me. They had a very simple appeal. I wouldn't be the person I am today if I hadn't had Hey Monday in my life.

Years later I met my now fiancée who really likes country and I was telling her about that tour and I remembered the name of Hey Monday’s singer, and she was like “Casadee Pope???” And it turned out she had become a mega famous country singer. I was absolutely obsessed with Hey Monday and Cassadee Pope in middle school/early high school. Her hair inspired me to get the intense side bangs look and I bought a pair of shoes from a brand she had a collaboration with. Met the band during warped tour when then were doing a signing and they were all sweet! I was shocked when I saw her on The Voice years later as I was already a fan for so long. Although I wasn’t around for any of this music’s heyday, I loved Hey Monday along with all the other decaydance bands in 2017-18 when I was peak scene. I even ran a fan account on Instagram for Cassadee at that time until Instagram wrongfully terminated it for saying I was impersonating her. Some of her country music is actually pretty good and she’s even started mixing her pop punk roots into it again with her most recent releases which I think is fun. The Hey Monday reunions must’ve inspired her.

This band was way better than they were given credit for. I always saw them passed over as "another Paramore" when they skewed a lot more pop than Paramore did, at least at that time. Hold On Tight is one of the best pop-punk albums of its era imo. The hooks are relentless, great production, the band was on point, and of course, Cassadee has a fantastic voice, which I thought worked great with this style of music. Beneath it All wasn't AS good, but I think it was still a solid release overall.

Man, I feel like life passed me by, if I had only gotten into music earlier, I’m 34 now, I could’ve probably joined the ranks of these people. But I was just too insecure, Two scared and not at all confident in my abilities back then. I guess you could say I wasn’t even really able to truly refine my vocal talent, until like 2012, but I truly didn’t accept my abilities as a performer/singer, until 2022. I always doubted myself, never really believed in my abilities, and back then it was probably a lot easier to get in because now everybody is trying to do something with social media music whatever.
