There's a burger place in my town that proudly offers a vegetarian patty. It's a giant fried hash brown. I just don't even know what these people are thinking. I ate it once and it was awful. It scratched the roof of my mouth and it was so salty and greasy. Why even offer that? Feels like an F.U. to veegs.

It’s because they keep the proteins all next to each other and don’t bother cross contamination. Source: used to work there for a little bit, and while I’m not veggie or vegan, I respect people’s choices, and throwing meat around and allowing meat in the sofritas is messed up.

i can second @Jules here. used to work there as well. they will fling meat into the sofritas by accident and leave it there/just pick it out. most often meat has touched ur food even if u order vegan/veggies options. the peppers and onions ESPECIALLY get cross containmented with the meat aaaall the time

I had a similar thing happen to me! I’m not vegan but I’m really allergic to beef. And I ate there and got so sick even though I asked for chicken in my bowl!! But I wasn’t sure if I got sick from them or not. But what do you know. The next time I went there my husband went before me and got beef in his bowl, and as the woman was scooping it, 4-5 pieces of beef fell into the chicken... never again can I get any meat from there.

Where I live we have a couple places, and I have like a ranking, the hole in the wall place called Tacos Mary is best, then there’s like a halfway point restaurant between local and chain called Aca Taco, which is number 2 on the list, and then there’s chipotle at the bottom

I once ordered the sofritas and it not only soaked through my bowl, it soaked through the stack of napkins and the bag. The sofri-TRASH ended up continuing to soak into my car seat. My car had a better post workout drink than I did by the time I got home.

Around here we have a chain called Moe's that's basically chipotle, but with like 10x the options. A haven for vegans and vegetarians. No beyond meat or anything but their tofu option is actually delicious and not watery, plus you can get all sorts of veg, beans aren't extra, etc.. A million times better than Chipotle. A Chipotle recently opened up near us and tbh I think it'll end up going out of business because people like Moe's better LOL

I earned free queso, sides, burritos, etc. My Moe's doesn't have a huge menu, but the amount of ingredient options is amazing. Pretty sure their sign in-store says over 5,000 combinations

Hi ex chipotle employee here! I know the company isn't so much worried about health (even though there are healthier options depending on what your order is) but they don’t have any food that involves GMOs or preservatives. I would assume that's the main reason they wouldn't want to include a meat substitute like beyond beef. But yes I agree the sodium is wild

Matt Chu the thing is it’s not a factory. All the beef is pasture raised from farmers close to whoever restaurant it’s being sent to. That’s why when there was an E. coli breakout a few years ago it only affected a few restaurants in the same area because it came from the same local farm. I agree that GMOs aren’t necessarily bad that’s just the route the company has chosen to go in

You're closing off your food to new potential customers by not making a vegan option, plain and simple. Bruh, having worked at chipotle for quite a few years, they straight up would tell us to put water in the sofritas. Most of them were one bag that we would reuse for multiple days that we would reheat and put water in to “refresh” them. As a vegan myself, I always found that so nasty.

As a Floridian I feel blessed to have Tijuana Flats! Definitely my favorite fast casual Mexican food. There are some locations in North Carolina, Indiana, and one in Virginia too. But it’s definitely a mainly Florida restaurant. Absolutely delicious, amazing hot sauce bar, and usually they have a fun theme! That said, Moe’s is really good too! I’ve never had Qdoba or Freebirds, not sure we have them here :(

I think Q’doba has impossible meat. And it’s very good. I used to be so “thankful” that Chipotle offered the sofritas and then as I had better alternatives, I realized sofritas aren’t even good. Like you said, it’s always wet... so gross. I was also getting a stomach ache after eating Chipotle and so I started getting nachos with no sofritas and WEIRD, no more stomach aches. Sure, Chipotle has better guac, but Q’Dobes got that protein that is delicious! *edit, I think the Las Vegas vegan restaurant you are thinking of is The Modern Vegan.
