The storage upgrade I really think should not be a reason in most cases, It's a digital console, you just delete games you are not playing and download what you want to play for the next week or so, I have mine for some time now, and never have passed of 75% of storage utilization, and I do not own any external storage or expansion card right now, because I keep only the games I will be playing for the next few weeks. You just need to manage what you're going to play, and if you like only massive games, you would buy the expansion storage anyway.

Nah it is a downside. It's actually the only legit downside to the console. Most of the other stuff doesn't seem to fit. Downloading and erasing games negated the entire reason for buying extra storage. You do that so you don't have to redownload things. And yes you can store stuff elsewhere, but you still have to move things over which usually takes just as long. And with NvME cost like $200+ or whatever, at that point you should have just got the X. I'm NOT saying it's a deal breaking at all or it even subtracts from the legit value of the S. But it definitely is a negative that most people over look until they get to the point of needing new storage. I have a S simply because I have a Pc and couldn't get an X anywhere. If I could I definitely would have got the X looking in hindsight. So yes you can just manage games but not everyone only plays 3 or 4 games at a time. Especially when you take into account what your friends might want to play with you and the rising space requirements for newer games. Basically any game past 2022 will not be able to be played off anything outside of internal storage or an NvME. Which all of this further proves this is definitively a console for more casual gaming or people who own other systems. Which isn't a bad thing at all. Just how it is

@@pHixiq agree with most of what you said here, mainly that the storage is a downside. However, you don't need to spend 200+ on a nvme. I bought a 1tb nvme and an enclosure for about 120$ Canadian last year, and you can get the same for about 95$ Canadian this year. Takes like 5 minutes to move large games like call of duty back or forth.

I bought the Series S well over a year ago now due to lack of availability for the Series X and have been pleasantly surprised with it. In fact the X has been available here and there and yet I held off on “upgrading” to the X and continue to game primarily with my S. Yeah the internal SSD is lacking but there’s inexpensive options for that. I’d say keep your expectations low and you may possibly pleasantly surprised too

I got the series s last year for $250 at best buy and I've been pretty happy with it too. I've always been a Playstation guy but I said what the heck let's give this a shot. I have a PS4 pro on a 4ktv and graphically I don't see a difference but the load times are nice and games seem to run a Little smoother on the S. Although I'm not using game pass at the moment, that was a great way to try a bunch of new games for a great deal. I am considering getting the X now that it's more available but really want to be content now and wait for the mid Gen upgrade consoles when they come out cause I know myself and will want it.

Although I play on PC only, I think it's a good thing that the Series S exists. The price difference between the S and X is significant. The S varient allows people on a budget to play and have fun. I think it's impressive what it packs in such a small box and it's good stuff for people gaming on a 1080p screen. I think Microsoft catering to that budget segment was a good thing for a ton of people

The storage is one of the biggest issues i have with the Series S as by the time you upgrade that with the 512gb M.2 which is ridiculously priced at £118.59 you are only £81.42 off the price of the Series X which is a much better console. Edit: it seems they've dropped the price of the Series S to £199.99 which you can't complain about at that price, that's insane value for money. At this lower price you're now £130.43 off the price of the Series X once you upgrade the storage with a 512gb M.2.

Are you referring to the proprietary SSD expansion card when you say m.2? Because 512gb m.2 is pretty cheap, 40-60$ Canadian depending if you want SATA 3 or nvme. Personally I went with 1tb nvme for 75$. Then you need to add an enclosure for another 20$ and there you have pretty cheap and fast storage for the series S.

I'll be honest, I bought my Series S back in February when it seemed like the chip shortage was going to drag on forever and used it in tandem with my OG 500GB Xbox One (that I bought in early 2016) for disc-based games. Then a Series X made itself available at retail in June and I grabbed it. Now my Xbox One is fully retired and I have moved my Series S into the spare room where I have it hooked up to my 27" 1080p PC monitor. I only usually subscribe to Game Pass for two or three months a year but have 40+ games purchased digitally. The Series S is perfect for what I want it for. In general, the Series S is definitely NOT "trash" as the elitists like to say. It's a great performing console.

I would also add that it also matters which two check marks you have to check. As for me I never ever owned a console, i only used to game on PC, but since I became a dad 3 years ago I got a full time job fresh out of university and lost my gaming time. Hence my already then outdated pc is even more outdated now and it simply is not able to play newer games. But back to the point. I am planning on buying a console now, that my daughter can go to sleep by herself now, and she loves sleeping over at her grandparents' house from time to time, on holydays, some weekends etc. So now I have a few hours a week especially on weekend afternoons. I do own a 50 inch 4k hdr tv, and I would like to game from time to time. Now for those few hours a week/month I believe that the series S could be the perfect fit for me. I am a petrolhead and I love fiddling around with cars on forza, so that would probably be my main game. I do not feel any urge to play on a switch as Nintendo games simply do not do it for me. The PS5 is literally never available in my country and it costs way too much for the three exclusives that I am interested in it is not an option. About 300usd for a series s, about 550 for a series x and around 700 for a ps5 is just insane for the money that we make around here. CONCLUSION: I believe that i would probably be fine with the small storage since I would only have like 2 games installed on the console anyway. I do not own any physical games, and I only plan on subscrubing to game pass. HENCE I believe that spending over 500usd for the series X would be kinda over the top for a user like me, even though I own a relatively nice TV. With little time to game, and no connection to any platform it might be the right choice. Thanks for reading this long mess of a comment.

I have had the series S for almost 2 years now, and I couldn’t be happier. My only worry that the console won’t be able to keep up with games in terms of performance by the end of this consoles generation, in 4 or 6 years the series s might not be playable. But by then I would have upgraded, either to series X or what ever iteration of series X in the next generation of consoles.

This video pretty much confirms that the Series S is the right option for me. 1) It's not my only console. I also have an Xbox One and a Switch. 2) The included storage is pretty pathetic in this day and age, but I don't do enough gaming for it to be a major issue. I'd probably have Forza Horizon 5 installed in perpetuity while cycling through a few indie games and one more occasional AAA title. 3) I moved away from physical games a long time ago. The only physical Xbox One game I still have is the Deluxe Edition of Final Fantasy XV. I have a pretty big library of digital games, however, and the Series S would be perfect for those. 4) I haven't made the upgrade to 4K and don't plan to do so anytime soon. The Series S is all I need for my 1080p television. 5) I've also moved away from DVD and Blu-ray for the most part. I still have some older stuff on DVD and Blu-ray, but almost all of my movie and series purchases in the last few years have been digital. I have a huge digital library of movies and series on Microsoft Movies & TV (which is obviously perfectly suited for streaming via the Series S). 6) The resolution issue doesn't bother me since I game on a 1080p television. A frame rate of 30 fps is fine for me too. Graphical fidelity has taken a bit of a hit in certain titles, but I think that's going to change once new development tools like Unreal Engine 5 start to be utilized more regularly.

I already thought of all these reasons because they mostly apply to me (especially the lack of disk drive), but the video was still helpful. I'm a casual gamer now and don't have a ton of money or time to spend, so the S seemed like the best way to go as the only system I'd own. I considered snagging one all month! Yet hearing someone else confirm my misgivings about it changed my mind. Especially the end - if you're gonna constantly watch videos about, think about it and second guess it, just buy the better console!

The storage thing can be worked around by buying a fast external SSD. You can offload games and reinstall them in a few minutes compared to hours spent redownloading games. It makes the whole issue a minor inconvenience at worst.

The storage issue with the SSD isn't really much of a problem you can get a 2TB game drive for the Xbox Series S/X for £88/$108/€102 which if you have the Series S or getting the Series S it's cheaper than getting an Xbox Series X so if you only care about storage then you should probably get the Xbox Series S and the 2TB gamedrive

The issue with that is it puts you in the price territory of an X. As far as I'm aware(I just got expanded storage and was looking around for a bit), those TB expanded storages can not run X|S games off of them. As in, you will basically be managing your games as if you did not buy extra storage if you are playing X|S games. Since they still can only be played off the internal. Series S is going to cost you 300-360 with tax depending on where you stay. You add an extra $100+(NvME cost $200) then you straight up are paying the same amount as you would for an X. I have an expanded storage that's SSD. Only a year old in terms of when it was released. *I still can not run x|s games off of it as the X|S games require NvME. It says faster storage when debatably the storage I have should be very much fast enough So yes you can buy extra storage that isn't NVME and store stuff. But basically any game 2022 and on won't be able to run off it. I also do not think this takes away from the value of the S at all. It's a great console. But the storage issue is the ONLY real negative. Especially with the pricing of everything

@@pHixiq . The X has 850gb usable space, the ps5 has 667gb. Yeah 364 with the S is small but it's not like the X and ps5 came with 2tb of storage. You will very likely have to expand storage regardless what you choose. So I think you just have to add that $100-$200 to each console.

The only thing people should worry about is finding new ways to put more storage on the Xbox Series S since gamers would try to play 9 or 10 games at a time with the quick resume feature.

At the moment I'm still saving money for the Series S, and next week I can finally buy it. I don't want to buy Series X even if I can afford it, because in my case I have a gaming laptop that is quite powerful for these days and a very good setup for it, so I don't really need a very sophisticated console . It seems to me that Series S is really a powerhouse for its price and the only minus is its storage, but if you have a good PC or a good gaming laptop, just like in my case, this console will be more than perfect for you. And let's not forget the fact that Series S can upscale to 4K if you have a good TV. At least for me it can easily upscale to 4K because of the TV. And for those who ask why I need a console when I have a gaming setup, it's simply a personal preference, I love to play in front of a big TV with pretty good graphics at a good frame rate. So here it's strictly up to you, if you only use the console, think about buying a Series X or a PS5, if you also have a gaming PC/Laptop, you can do the same thing as me, it's much better and you save more money that you can use for accessories for the console such as (charging station, new controller, thumbstick grips, etc.) or new games or a gamepass. I own a Series X, but I have to speak to the bonus tip: There are a lot of free games that do not require Xbox Live Gold/Game Pass to enjoy and they will run much better on the Series S than an older Xbox One/S/X. I'm talking about titles like Apex Legends, Fortnite, Roblox, Overwatch 2, Destiny 2, Rocket League, Warzone 2, Warframe, Halo Infinite Multiplayer, PUBG, Dauntless, Enlisted, Path of Exile, Rec Room, Trove, Phantasy Star Online 2, and a lot of others.

I already have a Series X in my gaming room upstairs and thats where I "Serious" game. I purchased a Series S for my downstairs rec room. This is where I play while hanging out with kid/dog. I was using an OG Xbox One there and that thing NEEDED an upgrade. It was taking me 10mins to load games like Apex/Halo. And when those games did load up, they were slow and choppy. Series S was a FANTASTIC upgrade to OG Xbox one. Now my games load WAYY faster and framerates are fantastic (compared to OG Xbox One). Super happy with it

All great points... I am enjoying the S. It has been a great way to get into next Gen for a good price and get into X box gaming for the first time. I would of easily gotten the PS5 digital if it were easier to get one so Microsoft made a good move with this option. Now that the series X is more available I am considering it like you said in the last couple of points BUT the mid Gen versions will be coming out likely in a couple years and I really want to be patient for that cause I know I'll want it and the S can be my secondary console.

I've been a mac/ipad user for 10yrs so my gaming was basically the odd angry birds / candy crush. That was until last year december 2022, when a friend (who has a high end pc and a ps5) recommended series s + gamepass to me. I liked the idea and I told my wife about it. So she bought me a series s for xmas last year. This budget little concole has been perfect for introducing me to console gaming and ive loved every moment of it! That same friend also introduced me to beat sabre, I immediately went out and bought a meta quest 2 just so I could play it, have loved that as well but not as much as my little series s.

Exactly why I got mine so quiet doesn’t get atomic heat coming out of it just a little warm slightly hot and no noise and I got an x screen love it pc is great tho just convince is nice as you get older

40's Dad here, starting a new job soon where I will have a very limited time to play and have gampass ultimate for the next few years, so I might end up with one. I split my current game time between switch 1st party titles and a Steam Deck. I have a gaming PC but don't really want to sit and game at it or spend game time tweaking settings and running bench marks, I have 3-4 different RTX cards in the last year and never use them. I still have a One S for my younger kid, who only plays Minecraft/Roblox, so I still can play physical discs.

Most people who have a Series S most likely have a XB1 so that solves the lack of a disk drive problem. On top of that XB1 is backwards compatible with older disk games. Series S is worth it.

The series s is an amazing secondary council for someone who travels or has A1080P TV or A 1440P monitor and has no plans on getting a mid tier to top tier HDMI 2.1 TV. If you have not purchased a new xbox of PS5 yet I recommend getting a $300 1440P monitor or A HDMI 2.1 TV 1st in my opinion it is pointless

I’ve been trying to decide if I should upgrade my switch lite to the OLED, or try something new and get an Xbox. I love Nintendo and it’s like all I play. I had a ps3 at one point and also considered a ps4 since they are re-making a lot lately. I landed on buying both consoles used and selling my lite. I’m very excited about this purchase decision. I’m hoping it all goes over well in the end! I think I’ll use both of the consoles a lot and enjoy the thought of all my Nintendo exclusives being on a screen that also supports my Xbox!

The ONLY real downside to the S is the storage. The NvME cost too much which basically puts you in the range of "I should have just got the X anyway". 300 for the S(more like 340+ depending on your tax) and another $200 or whatever for NvME is too much. That's the only real downside to the console. Storage expansion sucks And for people who don't know, *you can not play X|S games off of any storage that's not NVmE* . So yes, you could get a TB storage for cheaper. But none of the X|S games can be played off of them. Which basically means you'll be managing your internal storage as if you never even got expanded storage. And also means if you opt to buy a NvME, you should have went for the X anyway. Does not take away from the value at all. But definitely a negative either way

There may be another reason not to buy a series S and that reason is because apparently devs are pushing to not make or optimize games for it because they also consider it a potato and it greatly hinders development for the series X versions of the game , read a few articles like that and breathed a sigh of relief I bought a series X , another thing Look at game reviews on the Xbox store , majority of people will say there series X runs majority of games like dog water. I see non stop complaining and regrets about buying it just because it was all that was available at the time .. I found my series X at the source with 10 in stock and 15 ps5s during scalping season you just gotta do some proper sourcing

And I totally understand people buying them for convenience and to pack in/pack out of friends houses easily and that's all super awesome and great for what it is but if it's also gonna be your main home console just go X you'll have a better time and it gives you incentive to upgrade your tv at some point and the thing is more packable then an Xbox 360

I got the Series X instead of the S primarily for the disc drive, being able to catch up on Xbox One games since I skipped the last gen is quite the blessing. Also being able to play 4K blu ray movies is an extra perk.

I literally got a black screen of death today. Tried everything the display still wont work.Havent even had it 6 months. My ps4 I had for over 5 years I would play 24 hours in a session sometimes. Even dropped a couple times still no problems. I paid 400$ for this

I’ve watched the S hooked up side-by-side on a nice OLED TV with the X next to it plugged into the same OLED TV. You could not tell the difference unless you looked super close. You have to love the deals you can get on the S right now along with the fact that games that are being put out right now are not fully utilizing the power of the X and the OLED TVs. This makes it an easy choice for the S…. And then down the line a little bit get yourself a PlayStation five so you have both new consuls.

I just connected a USB SSD to my PS5. I have to wait 20+ minutes for the transfer (250GB), and I can't do anything else. On my Series S, I've transferred the same amount over two drivers (1 SSD, other a standard 2GB Seagate), and was still able to stream and play games.

I recently got some money and was looking to upgrade from my 2015 Xbox one. I have a collection of both digital and physical games but in the end the X is harder to find so I got a good deal on the S, but I haven't decided if I want to keep it or not, I don't have a nice Tv but when you upgrade you should be getting something that improves on what you previously had so losing a disc drive is a massive loss for me but I do like the size of the S. Series s: price Series x: disc drive (Assuming you don't have a nice tv most games run at least 1080p 60fps on the series s anyways) If you do not have a bluray player (or a 4k bluray but that's not as important) or buy enough games I would reccomended getting the series x Otherwise save the money

I'd say keep your Xbox One around for disc-based games (that is what I was doing after I got my Series S) and have the Series S around for your digital library and if you have games that are Series X/S optimized or specifically for Series X/S. Then hang back and wait for a Series X to make itself available whenever that may be.

PC only user here (so far), no consoles, no physical games, no BluRay media, only 1080p monitors and TVs, and the storage problem looks like it's going to be solved in the new version of the S. On the other hand, I don't have time to play often, so even the Game Pass might not always make sense to me, and I don't think all the games I want to play are available on GP... When I think about it, maybe the best option for me, at least for now, is to upgrade my current GTX1060 with a used graphics card and keep going on it...

Well now the series s is on sale for $250 and also the seagate 2Tb at bestbuy is $79 so you’re looking at around $360 after tax and as somebody who NEVER HAD xbox anything i think imma go ahead and get that. I have an Series S and I love it , however I do not game a lot , i just play every now and then (maybe 3-4 hours a month or something) and i feel it's great value for money, specially since i have an Xbox Ultimate subscription (that way i can also get the games for PC), however I also feel that if ppl are serious gamers, this is not the console for them cause of some points in this video like not alot of storage.. I however use it mostly for media playing, like streaming IPTV, watching youtube , listen to spotify etc ... For me that's great cause i dont have any bluerays or other cds, my media lib is on my NAS and that works out great... My main issue tough with playing games is that I dont like using a controller and I was expecting more games to support keyboard and mouse, but that would also be an issue on the Series X so it's not the consoles fault.. But for ppl who just enjoy light/casual gaming, get this , otherwise go for the Series X, it's a beast

I’m just coming back into playing games. Last console was a 360 and a tv that has a dump trunk. So this is perfect for me. As a single dad I only play 4 games top and that just what I like. My son is only 6 so this is also a good starter pack for him. Not into online much because I don’t sit at home all day or all night and play.

Am I alone in saving a bundle of cash each year by having a disc drive? I buy physical copies of games, play through them once, and then I sell them again online (not through Gamestop). Very often it works out to be an old school "rental price" where playing through game X for a month or whatever cost me $10 or $20. And in some cases, I literally break even. For me, once I play through a game once, I rarely ever play through it again.

as a series s owner id say the only down side to the series s is the lack of storage every thing else with it is great tbh it doesnt over heat or sound like its about to take off you can play older titles from last gen to the original xbox but you would 100 percent need the extra storage plus the price for some games are crazy expensive

I'm planning on selling the physical games and my One to get the 1TB Series S and repurchase a few of the games I want like Halo (I'm planning on going with Game Pass Core except when there's something I really want to play on Ultimate).

I had the series S for over a year now and I'm still having fun with it. I also have the series X for half that time.... The X is a better choice for a home console but if you have most of your games digital the S is great as a secondary console for when taking to a family or friends house especially if you have a travel case. In my opinion both console lack storage space, you can purchase the SeaGate 1 or 2 Terabyte expansion card but it is costly. You can still use your old hard drives but only for Xbox One or lower games. The visual quality is lower on the series S but you really can't tell unless you are using an older TV.
