Re your Tommy Flanagan story: I spent $100 on the Kenny Dorham Quiet Kenny RSD repress when it dropped. Love that record. While I was FIRST spinning it I went to wipe something off my turntable and and bumped the tonearm, leading to a scratch. Rookie mistake. It's nothing deep, and I have to really pay attention to hear it, but I know it's there, and I'm still ashamed of myself for doing it hahaha

I think Newk’s Time was a music matters release, which means it probably won’t get the tone poet treatment, but a classic series reissue would be sweet.

Super happy you picked up a copy of Newk's Time - it's a killer album and, of course, Sonny shines on it as he does on pretty much all of his albums (maybe At The Village Vanguard is not my most favorite of his but the rest are almost all masterpieces). Huge fan of Donald Byrd, still listen to Places and Spaces till this day also Stepping Into Tomorrow. Then you got all the Blackbyrd album, good luck finding a clean version of those. I know mine were played to death back in the day. After Issac Hayes - Joy and the "dynaflex albums" I was done if you know what I mean 🤔

Hi Bob - I just watched Escape From New York 🗽 with Isaac Hayes playing " The Duke ". He was one smooth cat. My local FYE will price records without a Barcode / UPC ultra cheap like that Lou Reed. Imports as well. It's a big company so the management just wants stuff on the floor & selling & really don't pay much attention to Discogs. ✌️

As I was watching your video, I suddenly realized one of the benefits of our crazy record collecting: There is a lot of stuff we end up with that doesn't cost all THAT much, is amazing and unique stuff, and would be almost impossible to expose yourself to via streaming, etc. A lot of the stuff you show us is, according to the dominant western culture, VERY obscure. But it holds up better than a lot of the more popular stuff. Like Billy Joel said, "Ah, it took me years to write it They were the best years of my life It was a beautiful song but it ran too long If you're gonna have a hit you gotta make it fit So they cut it down to 3:05

Bob- thank you for the good natured confession of your accidental mishandling of your Tommy Flanagan record. I *almost* let my Neil young self titled fall to the floor but stopping it caused one side to be totally unplayable! I have felt so guilty about until now. But now I don’t feel so all alone 😢. I did replace it with the Neil young archive series online… that same night. So i could sleep.
