June Anderson had a nice flexible voice . BUT, she had the misfortune to “appear” between Sutherland and Caballe, being compared to them and having unfavorable critics. The same thing happened in the 50-60 to Antoinetta Stella . She had to “impose” herself between Callas and Tebaldi. I think there is / was place for all of them - each one in her own special way ! Unfortunately, today we have screamers and yellers that call themselves Opera Singers !!!!!

Roma 1988. June Anderson was the queen of bel canto in the 80s - she had a more substantial voice than Cuberli, Serra, Devia et al. Was fortunate to catch her Lucia (with Alfredo Kraus no less!), Semiramede (with Horne and Ramey) and Rigoletto at Covent Garden. I can think of no one with her virtuosity and amplitude of voice today.

Perfection in sweetness. Reminds me a bit of Katia Ricciarelli (who apparently never sang Amina-does anyone know?). Ideally suited to the role. I heard her as Lucia (with Alfredo Kraus) at Chicago Lyric Opera but I can’t recall if they ever brought her back…strange if true, but may be only my memory at fault.

I’m always astonished about her career - spectacular circus numbers, for me, spectacular singing with few soul. A queen of belcanto in the 80s? Still Scotto, Sills, Devia, Gruberova - and she’s fitting to the girls?😱😂 I adore her work in “heroines”, just think of Semiramide….🙏 Probably also a question of gout simply. yes thats the main problem, it is because in order to sing THAT well, she never LETS GO... you dont hear a free artist who communicates with the audience but a super careful, perfectly controlled singing... even dame Joan would let go from time to time... as Tulio had said to Maria: when you go onstage, play with your voice, have fun... u studied and u worked hard, now have fun... La June never let herself have fun

@@LohengrinO yes..forgive my use of the word but.. frigid is what comes to mind. there are plenty of silvery and even acidulic voices that are much warmer and touching.
