The repetitive pest statement is exactly why I gave up on roses and hibiscus (the ones with the large blooms). My grandma was always in an endless battle with Japanese Beatles. I had some of her items at my old house, but when I moved in 2017 I didn't bring them. I have not had a problem with Japanese Beatles since. I have noticed some on a Magnolia tree during flowering, but they haven't bothered anything else. This house had some of what grandma used to call "old timey cane roses." They bloom in May and look beautiful, but the blooms are done by the time the beatles show up. I brought some other flowers I got from grandma so her memory is here I just left the roses and hibiscus behind. I am also more aware of how treating for pests harm the beneficials that she was. Beyond that, she was 10x the better gardener than I ever will be.

Black Krim… best tomato I’ve ever had. Heirloom variety though so doesn’t produce a ton. A couple of the same plant does the trick. For those looking for a great tasting tomato for a blt on wheat toast 🥰 look for seeds or the plants next year. If you love smokey flavors, it won’t disappoint. Easier to find seeds now as well as it becomes more popular.

I am in zone 7B, clay soil. Encore azaleas planted Oct 2020. They made it through -11 degree weather, bloomed then the spring rains came. They look pretty sad now... I used some pine bark during planting. I am thinking I planted in a spot that allows pooling during heavy rain. Living and learning.

Questions about fertilizer: 1) when, or if, to use bone meal. 2) does fertilizer get old/ineffective? Do I need to discard/replace every year? Question about pruning: 1) My fall mums and Autumn Joy sedum get leggy early in the summer; I’ve just (late May) cut mine back hard, but not sure if I’ve ruined them. How far to cut back??? Question about transplanting: I’m afraid I haven’t been very successful with dividing and relocating some of my plants (Autumn Joy sedum, Carex look like fails). I am trying some daffodils, but skittish about trying with some of my hostas. Could you address that process? Container planting: I have several heuchera in pots with potting soil. Should I repot them with a pine bark soil conditioner? Seems like they are all healthy when they produce new spring leaves, but shortly show issues with leaf fungus I’ve had to deal with. Thank you. I am in a suburb north of Atlanta, 7b.

In that when you did not demonstrate how to do a hydrangea in the cloning process. I watched most of your videos and unfortunately I can't put my hand on the one in which you did the cloning if you could please direct me to that particular video I would really appreciate it I'm so sorry that I can't put my hand on it myself. Hello Jim......Do you ever get snakes in your garden? If so, what is the best way to keep them out of the garden? This is the second year this pair of ratsnakes visited me in my garden. Snakes usually move in when there is other wildlife in the garden such as moles, chipmunks, etc., and once those critters are controlled, the snakes will move on. You can get snake repellants at the big box stores.

@cece_marie3 жыл бұрын
Really helpful guidance! When you said that this was the month that you'd lose control, I initially thought you meant with overbuying and running out of places to put things.... I'd add to create a routine for cleaning hummingbird feeders, birdbaths, fountains, and bird feeders. Having set days for these things keeps my birdbaths from getting full of algae or mosquitos. - Save "retired" kitchen scrub brushes and stash them with your hose, for quick work of cleaning birdbaths. - Consider adding a shallow tray of water with rocks near annuals for bees and butterflies to drink from - One preventative pest control thing that I do find that I *must* do is put down slug/snail bait.
