In Oklahoma we have the OSU extension service with 12 month plans and all types of gardening info including lawns. They are doing ok but I don't know what to do with them this winter. I'm in Louisville. Should I stick them in the ground now? Should I bring them inside for the winter?
@rdarrett36354 жыл бұрын
I want to make sure I am thinking correctly. You said I can shred my leaves 🍁 from my oak tree and use it as mulch? I’m double checking because another YTuber indicated you shouldn’t do this because if robes nitrogen from your plants. If I can do this without hurting my plant it will save me a lot of money on mulch. My oak tree drops leaves for a full month and it is HUGE!!
@JimPutnam4 жыл бұрын
Definitely use the leaves as mulch. These nitrogen theft things are generally only if you incorporate it in the ground and even then only temporary

Jim, If I have 3 different types of figs growing here in Missouri and I am wanting your opinion on how to store my figs for the winter. I have Olympian, little ruby, and celeste. They are growing in 20 gallon containers for now. I do have a garage that has 3 sides of it into the ground, however it is known to get down to zero or below here in Missouri. Would you do any more then simply set them in the garage with a blanket over them.

I don't know if those are butterflies all over behind you, or the dreaded cabbage moths but it looks beautiful. One question, don't organic fertilizers need lots of heat to break down? Wouldn't a water soluble fertilizer be better at this time of year?
@trace96574 жыл бұрын
Question specifically on dahlias, I am also NC, 7B. Do you dig them up? I planted 4 dahlias since I relocated in 2017. I have not dug them up, but three have survived and bloomed each season, but they are definitely not robust. In fact, one did not bloom at all until September. I thought about maybe digging one up and trying that this year. I have already dug all my caladiums out, at least the ones I want to keep.

I live in Southern Oregon Zone 8 I bought 2 little lime hydrangeas a week ago because it started to get cooler (50-70s) then suddenly our daytime temp has been on the high 90s until the end of this week. I held off on planting them and left in the pot. I bought and planted 2 of the same kind 2 weeks ago when the temp was 100 and up then suddenly the temp dropped and I ended up overwatering them I think they don't look good. I'm hoping the new 2 ones don't end up dying. Should I continue to hold off on planting them until it gets a little cooler again? I'm afraid we're getting close to our first frost.

I'm in Zone 5 and just bought a Dwarf Alberta Spruce. What advice would you give about overwintering in the container? Since it's hardy to Zone 3, can I just leave it as is (perhaps near the house and open to insulating snow)? How would I handle any thaw/refreeze cycles we get (e.g. late winter/early spring)?
