Just a quick thank you for all of your teaching videos. I have applied your principles in my first real attempt at gardening. My garden has produced more vegetables than I ever imagined. I feel that you've given me the knowledge to have success from now on. Thanks, and God bless you!!

Very informative and inspiring! Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge and experience! Have been gardening for more than 40 years but I always learn something new when I watch your videos! I had to laugh when you said your green beans were supposed to be pole and not bush. Just the opposite happened to me this year; “bush” beans turned out to be pole beans so I had to quickly put up some bamboo support poles. Blessed to live in Kentucky where a small variety of bamboo grows wild and I can just go out and cut some “cane poles.” Also used for fishing😊

Yesterday I overflowed my harvest basket with red noodle beans, cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes. Tomorrow is another harvest day. I have lemon squash to check on, cucumbers that are ready, maybe a few peppers, and a lot of tomatoes. Grand Marshall tomatoes are growing on me. They have decent size fruit, about 3/4 pound, nice color, and quantity. They have also been my most pest resistent variety. Yesterday we had the first rain shower of the month, and cooler temperatures with it. We had a full week with temperatures of 102F or hotter in the shade. After 10:00 AM I can't get anything done in the heat. To finish up the hen house, I have to block off the nesting boxes with cardboard, and add pine shavings for bedding. Then it will be ready for the chickens. They are almost ready to go outside. The body feathers are starting to come in, and they no longer need the heat mat to warm them. It has been off for four days wiothout any problems. I've started giving them sand, chicken grit, cut grass, clover, and herbs. Bella regularly flies to the top of the waterer, and the brooder box. The first time I have to chase her down, they go outside. That will be any day, maybe even tomorrow. She is getting braver, and teaching the other chicks. The frame is set up for the chicken run, and needs to be covered. The coop I have has its own run, so they will be confined to it until they are six weeks old. It has plenty of room for them with their size. Just a few more days, and it is potato planting time. In two weeks, I will be starting seed starts for cabbage, and sowing tunip and carrot seeds Cauliflower and Brocolli are about six weeks away.

Here's a bit of understanding you can pass along. I have grown my tomatoes in container/pots, for years, (started in PA where the summer temps are not this high) they measure 15 inches in diameter and about 15 inches tall. I started them very early this year and they were absolutely beautiful dark green plants and they grew extremely well. They grew tons of blossoms and now they're all dying. Almost all the tomatoes have Blossom End Rot. NONE of my other plant fruits, that get blossom end rot, has BER. My pepper, cucumber, squash plants are all doing exceptionally well. After some reading online I have come to the conclusion my pot size is why my tomatoes are dying and the tomatoes have BER. The pots are just too small and they've become (root bound) ---- they can't get enough nutrients and water in this high heat. According to much I've read tomatoes have HUGE HUGE root systems and to do well they NEED to be in the ground or a very large pot that's at least 24 inches in diameter because the roots can spread 2 feet to each side of the plant. Tomatoes can be grown in smaller pots (if the temps aren't too hot) but the harvest and plant is small. My biggest problem, this year and last, is the high temperatures. From what I understand tomatoes like moist soil but not soaked soil and watering in the high temps is a very hard/tricky task as they need frequent waterings at reduced amounts as to not be drowning them and NOT letting them dry out. Next year I'm growing tomatoes in those (30 gallon) 24 inch fabric pots and if my conclusions are wrong I'll pass it along. BUT I don't think so --- this is the only thing that makes any sense -- my tomato varieties are Abe Lincoln, Brandy Boy, Roma, Better Boy, Sweet 100, and Box Car Willie ---- They ALL have the same problems. P.S. I believe the same is true for watermelon plants also.

@THERUSTEDGARDEN The wilting on the tops seems to have started after a low dose of liquid fertilizer (green box) followed by some heavy rains (NW CT). Being in planters (5gal buckes), I was able to loosen the soil a little bit and moved them from full sun to an area with only about 4 hours of direct morning sun. It seems to have helped a bit more that the wilting has started to lift. As far as the long slits in some of the foliage it appears to be more of a crack rather than insects eating them. I can actually see a seam when lightly pushing them together.
