I have gone from an all-grass suburban backyard to a mini orchard/food forest inspired by those like you, Millennial Gardener, and MIgardener. I now have 19 fruit trees plus elderberry, blueberry, raspberry/blackberry, strawberry, fig, and honeyberry as well as some good annuals (tomatoes, cabbages, cucumber, zucchini) and even some peppers which I grow in my basement as evergreen everbearing crops. Still jealous of how productive and mature your forest is. Some day we'll be there but keep it up and keep on encouraging new growers!

Hubby and I have one acre here in East Texas. We’re building raised beds and have had 10 yards of premium raised bed mix for those and premium compost brought in to put in the garden. I’m so excited to plant my very first sweet potato slips in one of the raised beds. Two beds have corn, green beans zucchini and yellow squashes. Another bed has cucumber, bell pepper, radish and dill. I have a long row of cherry tomato varieties and mini San Marzo along a fence and asparagus in a corner bed. I’ll plant Purple hulls, black eyed peas, and pintos in the garden. I’ve planted lots of fruit trees and berry bushes as well. Praying for God to bless the fruits of our labors. 🙏🏻

Your food forest has been an inspiration. We have less than 1/10 acre suburban plot and we’re working on cultivating a food forest in the back yard. Going on one year now. Started with several fruit trees, peach, nectarine, fig, persimmon, jujube, red mulberry, berry bushes: blackberries, raspberry, strawberry. Also lots of natives around the perimeter to bring in the pollinators, and annuals in between everything grown in “guilds.” It’s been a labor of love, lots of work, but so worth it. And it will only get better. Thank you for the work you’re doing James and Tuck ❤❤❤

This is my favorite video of years. Eating for a lifetime.. I just planted a Fig tree 2 months ago and blueberry bush and raspberry bush. And a grape vine. The blueberry bush had like 50 berries on it and the midwest heatwave came while I was gone from the house for a week. And everything suffered. But the Fig tree seemed to love heat. Lol. I just know after 2 weeks of 9pm watering got everything back yo looking good. But the fruit is not coming back yet. I was picking around 10 raspberries a day from that 1 small bush me and my 2 granddaughters would eat them right of the vine. They r 1 and 2.5 years old. And work the garden like they were born to it.. its cool. To see little 1s excited to go out and love the garden. And mine is small 20x8 area. I wish I had 1 acre or 2.. I'd plant alot of trees like you have. The 2.5 year old always take her little hand rake and rakes the lettuce. And when it comes off she will bring to to be and grab my hand and take me yo hose to wash it. So she can eat some. I gave her her own little box 2x4. It has lettuce and kale and cherry tomatoe plant and spinach. I let her do what ever she wants in her box so she can learn and have fun. I'm surprised..I thought for sure she would rip.ever plant out😂. She did a couple the 1st day. And we replanted them and she hasn't ripped them out since. She loves picking her cherry tomatoes and eating them. They r chocolate tomatoes. Got from Manards . Good look every1 and God bless you and your gardens

Wow. I'm only half-way through viewing this and have so much to say! I discovered you a month or two ago and subscribed right away. You pack more useable information in than anyone else I've seen, are very inspiring, and I can definitely relate to the passion you have in your voice and the mega varieties you grow. I live on about 1.75 AC in zone 7, and went down a rabbit hole 3 years ago whereby most of my front yard will be 100 different heirloom varieties of peonies this fall, with more to come as I find the rarer ones on my list each year.. My backyard is bigger than the front, and I plan on growing my own edibles there. Besides planting a serviceberry and a persimmon ("Meader", self-pollenating), I'm still in the planning stage. The former owners left an overgrown garden which has become more so. I will have to tackle that first (I just retired so have a lot more time). I'm glad you mention starting small, because I get carried away and will have to put on the brakes and live some of my gardening life vicariously through watching your videos and continuing to learn while planning! 😂 I'm not a dog person, but Tuck has won me over with his quiet, veggie-eating self! Have you thought of (or have already) taken Tuck with you to local schools to help them start a garden (or better yet- food forest)? I think your personalities would be great with kids and Tuck could encourage them to eat their veggies! ❤❤❤❤

No apple trees for me here in the south, but I’ve done well with all kinds of berries and figs. Turns out that I have my very own pecan tree and the muscadine grapes grow as weeds everywhere on my ppty. I’m better at growing cool weather crops…..so far. Keep spreading the fun, James! @joannc1476 ай бұрын
@@RayF6126 Ray, I can “get” all of those trees, but that’s not the point. I planted some paw paws about 8-10 years ago and they’re not producing….the just take up real estate (valuable garden space). Lemons and oranges require hardy species & sheltered indoor winter spaces. Only a dwarf peach would make any sense and that still requires chemicals and time better spent on other crops. Eat in season and eat what grows in your region.

Love it. Inspirational even for those who already garden even.💚🌱😁👍 I would love to put in some grapes I already know they will do really well here in the lower part of Oklahoma. Really interested in the muscadine grape here. So I can also use the leaves in my fermentations. ☺️

Hey James I love all your videos and I’m in the beginning stages of starting off my food Forrest based on your videos. The one thing I haven’t seen in all the videos I have watched is how you water your plants. I’m sure you have a video on it somewhere but would like to a day in the garden vid from start to finish. Thank you for all the awesome content you put out!

❤ I just picked green beans for dinner from back porch Greenstalks. I started planting more perennials in my main gardens to create less work for myself and plenty of ‘food’ to harvest each year. I grow my own herbs to create my own medicinal tea and seasonings. 😊

Thank you so much James, I love watching Tuck, for sharing what you have and how to grow things in your back yard. Btw since I’ve been watching you, I’ve learn how to take care my garden and plant things to our own benefit. Thanks ❤❤❤

That is how I feel when I'm in my garden. My own little world. I can just shut out the world & enjoy growing my food. Today was 6/29/24 and I planted second crops of beans, squash, carrots, cucumbers, herbs, radishes, cabbage, sunflowers & a fig tree. I'm in zone 5b Colorado. I have 2 Yorkies, Lillii & Pixii, and just like Tuck they love eating fresh fruits & veggies out of the garden. 💚❤🧡
