JK killed this song on Jimmy Fallon. Frankly the entire interview and other bits were pretty fun too, but the vocals and dancing by Jungkook were epic. I am still surprised when US radio doesn't play BTS music. The entire Golden album is in English so that can't be the reason. I know, payola etc. My idealistic mind wants people to honor good music when they hear it.

59 years here. My daughter got me interested in BTS in 2013. I loved Michael Jackson, grew up with his music and saw him in concert a few times. i was devastated when he died.......and I've never been one for fangirling. She thought they would appeal to me because they embraced their uniqueness, much like Michael. So here I am, all these years later, an Army. Since I had MJ throughout my formidable years, nothing will replace the King of Pop for me. But he is definitely throwing out the vibes that I can see as him being the Prince of Pop and he made his homage to Michael respectfully, as well as throwing his own style in with it. I love all their music, and love them. And it pisses me off my daughter has seen them, I am scared to death I'm going to kick the bucket before I get the chance.

There’s a lot to love about jungkook! He’s BTS’s golden boy-their much loved and doted-upon youngest member, who is their main singer as well as the official center of their act. He was just 13 when he signed with BigHit and moved to Seoul to live and train with the other group members. He was 15 when they debuted. Imagine the pressure… all that on his shoulders, and he was a literal child! Like, his band members actually were at his middle school graduation. That’s crazy. But he’s just really gifted. Not just musically, but in EVERYTHING from art to athletics. RM started calling him their “golden maknae” (maknae meaning youngest) very early on, and the nickname stuck. Hence his first album being called Golden. 😊 And producers (Andrew Watt included) all describe what a dream he is to work with. He reportedly has perfect pitch. He comes prepared, rapidly churns out flawless takes, is super receptive to producer feedback and will just keep doing takes until everything is perfect. Plus, he’s humble-shy even. Not a hint of diva in him. Watch a live performance if you get a chance, even if you don’t post the reaction. The Jimmy Fallon one from last night was incredible-he somehow sounds better than the recording, and that was while dancing!

There are two live performances, iHeart Radio and Jimmy Fallon Show. Today they released an Official "Standing Next to You Choreo Version". I'm also a huge MJ fan so when I heard this my heart lit up!! And I kinda like that there isn't an obvious chorus, it just kinda dissolves into an ethereal groove before heading into another verse. its funny that you mention the chorus, or anti-chorus kinda, it's something a lot of artists in the Kpop genre are experimenting with, both anti-drops and anti-choruses, as well as song arrangement as well. Many bands and artists are going very non-traditional nowadays. They're all over the place, testing new things and pushing boundaries, which is so interesting and very cool.

Thanks Nathan! I wondered if you would react! I know you are a big fan of MJ. The entire BTS group are also big fans. They have quite a few choreographed songs that give a nod to his style. The dance break by Jhope in Dynamite is pretty cool! The coming of age dance piece by Jungkook and Jimin shows some of that! In this Golden album is Hate You, love his lower register in this song. IHeart Radio had him perform Standing Next to You and his backup dancers were not in it. I like seeing him solo, too! When you find time check out some other songs on Golden! loved this reaction! it's great to hear your producer knowledge explain how and why the song keeps you so hooked haha. I don't know anything about production but what I think is interesting with these kind of title songs is that they were likely also chosen (if not produced) with the members' focus on dance in mind. maybe that's why the not-quite-chorus works so well here for jungkook and the performance bc it allows him to go all out with the explosive dance moves! I noticed this especially watching jimin's dance practice video for set me free pt 2, you can really notice how the production creates the perfect balance for vocals and space for choreography 👍

Its not fair when mediocre performances from his contemporaries and fellow BTS members are brought in for comparisons. He definitely needs that long overdue respect from this fandom.
