I found an unbelievably rough Yamaha RD200 sitting in a Florida junkyard. It's been sitting for decades with no spark plugs and no exhaust. Can I get it running? Can I salvage anything at all? Let's give this old 2-stroke another shot at glory! Hint: It's gonna be a huge effort.

I enjoy your junkyard finds and you are a character. A human cannonball? Has Don looked through the "motor home" for any momentoes of the carnivals he traveled with? On the RD200, is the frame rotten? If not, I'd think it'd be worth digging into the engine. This works on my mower engines. Remove the engine, fully assembled, and submerse in a 10-gallon bucket of vinegar. I use plastic bottles full of bolts, tightly sealed, to fill up the open spaces and reduce how much vinegar is needed. Only let it sit an hour or so and then soak it in a different bucket of water with a lot of laundry soap. It's a PH shock. Before putting it back in vinegar submerge it in a bucket of clean water to neutralize the PH some. Repeat until it frees up the moving parts, then blow every inch with a can of WD 40 to remove all of the water. Since I've only done mowers, I just place them in my barrel of used oil and turn the crank while it's in oil. After all this, you may have a decent engine to rebuild. I'd get it that far and then decide whether to restore it.

I looked through the camper, but found nothing. Such a cool vehicle to wander through. I'm gonna try the vinegar trick. The main thing I fear is finding that the pistons are smeared up and down the cylinders. Very common for two strokes. Thank you for the advice and for watching!

Oh yeah, the frame seems ok for now. I've not inspected it closely, though. I ran out of daylight.

Put the engine in diesel or any other seized up stuff works a treat

That's the plan. It's frozen harder than any other engine I've ever seen, but I will try! Thanks, my friend!

Can I just say it is not a RD 200, but is actually a 1972 Yamaha CS5E Not sure how you would get on with doing anything with it as it looks like most of it is to far gone, but good luck anyway. Colin

I discovered it's real designation after the video was made. I called it an RD just because I've had a couple. It was cool to research the CS3 bikes! You're right, it's unbelievably rough. I'll be lucky to use more than just a couple of small parts. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

I had a CS back in the day. Soon as I saw the drums and shape, 1972 came to my mind. Mine was a blue one. Got my full license on it. Wonderful memories. A pity was dumped outside. Hope the scrap metal was worth it, Sir. Cheers NZ.

It's a 1972 CS5, not an RD200. I have one, brilliant bikes.

I still have it, but it's unbelievably rough. The engine and transmission are both locked. So are the hubs and steering. It would be a huge effort. Thanks for watching and commenting!
