I'm glad you covered this, Junkman. I used to have this as a kid! It was actually a lot of fun for its time.

Had it as a kid, found another one a few years ago. Still gotta get a power plug and tapes for it when finances allow.

That things seems like would be pretty awesome for something back in the 70's.

The best feature about 2-XL was the flashing red lights for the eyes. Forget the trivia 8 tracks - my best memory is watching his eyes flutter along to "Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley and laughing hysterically...

If one of those was given to me as a kid, I would have destroyed it for being annoying within a week.

The closest thing I can think of that I'm familiar with is a robot from the early 90s named Alfie. This would be frustrsting, the jabs from that robot were funny, though. :) haha Thanks for the video

The robot voice sounds like Eddie Deezen. He was in Wargames movie and grease

This is pretty cool and somewhat advanced for 1978 standards.

There is all kinds of stuff under the radar that blows me away to discover. Tennis for two, 1958. It was basically Pong. Selectavision, movies on record albums in the 80s. The internet existed in the 70's. They were sending fax messages in the 1800s. I'd never saw this thing.

It took me a moment to realize that 2 XL was likely a play on words. It is to enable you “to excel”.

There was one on display at my local K Mart. It worked when I first saw it. I went back with my grandma (since K Mart was like grandma life support) a week later and it was playing a Barry Manilow 8 track. I looked all over the aisle for the real tape in vain. I'd like to make the fifteen jokes I came up with about its accent, but I won't even pretend to believe my comment won't get yeeted by the algorithm. But, maybe someone took his 8 track because that was where he hid his gold.

I was going to say that you should cover the "Science Fiction" tape, but maybe not... The reason you have to push the "Question" button so often was to change tracks. No idea how they figured out how to get the whole program and multiple answers on an 8-track tape, but there must've been a flowchart.
