Clock this is the one exception where i HATE that. Most of the time, Doug kept on interrupting Rob, and honestly the whole i saw Doug as this kid who was throwing a tantrum because he didn't get what he wanted. I usually like these sibling rivalries where the two have opposites opinions, but Doug ruined the whole thing for me.

***** I thought the CGI was fine. Certainly better than JP3. But I think we're so used to seeing CGI by now that we find it a lot easier to criticize. And in the original JP, the CGI was very minimal. But now, its easier and cheaper to do it, so they get a little heavy-handed with it. That's what got on my nerves about the Star Wars prequels. It looked like a video game most of the time.
@renegade6379 жыл бұрын
I, also, thought the CGI was pretty good. What particularly comes to mind is when we first see the tamed raptors (obviously, it’s debatable as to how best to describe them: tamed, domesticated, subservient to Owen). I was just glad they went back to the JP raptors and not the JP3 ones. As for Doug’s perceptions of some of the plot holes, the teams that went out to find Indominus, I’m not surprised they didn’t know what to expect. Since when does a company make sure all employees are aware of everything that might happen in a situation? I saw at least 4 separate areas that may or may not know what is going on between each other: the science lab, day-to-day operations, management, animal control… What is the likelyhood that the left hand is going to tell the right hand what is going on? In all honesty, I like James and Mike’s review of the movie better. Furthermore, I consider this an intellectual popcorn flick. It’s smart enough to keep you interested and mindless enough to just sit back and enjoy.

Is it just me, or does Doug come into these movies with ridiculous preconceptions about what the movie will be, and then gets personally offended when it doesn't match his preconceived notions? I'm as guilty of this as the next guy, but he seems to take it to a strangely high level for a guy who reviews movies for a living.
@Gojiraking19 жыл бұрын
Pendragon absolutely. He wants "his jurassic park" and convinces himself that "his jurassic park" is the one that everyone wants. And its not just this franchise. He is definitely the whinier of the Walker Brothers.

@MagusMirificus9 жыл бұрын
Pendragon No, the expectation of a Jurassic Park film set in an open park full of people was given to him by the movie itself. It failed to deliver on that by shifting into a movie about a few people vs dinosaurs out in the jungle, just like he'd already seen three times before.
@EhvinnTee9 жыл бұрын
Pendragon You're 100% correct. Especially since all of Doug's "ideas" in this review for how the movie should be would've been things I have no doubt he'd HATE if they actually went through with it. Essentially, Doug wanted a movie without characters or any kind of emotional core whatsoever. "Here's an idea, why waste any time? Why instead of having a group of characters waiting to be eaten, JUST EAT THEM?!" Cause that's not a fucking movie!!

CeltycSparrow they didn't look real but they looked cool, so that's it. I don't get the boner people seem to have for super realistic CGI effects. Deep down everyone knows it's fake. It's cool to see super realistic effects once in a while, but in 20 years we'll look to today's good GCI and average CGI all the same, as the technology will have improved. Just the horrible CGI and the awesome CGI (wich can be counted in your fingers) will stand out. I take a good movie with so-so CGI over a shit movie with mind blowing CGI anytime.

Raptor DNA doesn't translate to it being able to communicate, it was predictable. But the twist wasn't "it's a raptor" it was "they can communicate" which makes sense considering MOST species can not communicate with other species even if they're related. It is actually kinda unsettling that it could communicate even growing up in complete isolation- if anything that just makes it stupid because of its improbability

Was I the only one that thought the CGI was just fine? I mean the Avengers 2 came out witch alot of scenes that were extremely greenscreenish, like that scene with Scarlatte Witch stopping the train. That shot was CGI done terribly. Here, I thought the CGI was just fine. The dinosaurs might not have been implemented absolutely perfectly, but they're animations were smooth and realistic, the lighting was realistic, and you would believe that the dinosaurs were there if you weren't trying to compare it to a movie with tons of animatronic shots. Not a single point in the movie did they get that low. And yet the responses to both movies? Avengers 2 "The CGI wasn't the best at times..." Jurrasic World " Oh my god the CGI was so horrid it made my testicles shrink to the size of an atom 0/10"

Bumi Satria Pandawa some of the cgi was a bit bad but really at this point I've stopped caring about the cgi in movies unless it's reeeeeally bad or reeeeeeally good, the indominus rex looked great and sometimes realistic, the cgi complaints from me witht his movie is really more of that cgi shark, because i freaking hate cgi sharks, they've never looked good, just use a freaking model and insert it into the shot! but really that and the raptors are the only cgi complaints from me, the raptors do look bad, and it makes no sense why they couldn't use suits and puppets for some shots, like the part with the muzzles on them, why the hell would you cgi that?!?!?! just use a f*cking puppet! but really it's just the shark and the raptors.

Bumi Satria Pandawa Which is why it will be fine for most. A lot of old fans will not enjoy it as much though as Avengers fans would not if it was made a long time ago rather than recently. Yeah. I get his criticisms regarding the film not taking full advantage of the park setting all throughout, and how the CGI is overused in comparison to the original film, but Jesus, you'd think someone who watched the OG film 11 times in the theaters would know what a THEROPOD is and not just call the Indominus a 'big raptor'.

This movie never picked a lane, either it should be a dumb monster movie or a serious movie with character development. It tried to do both and thus failed at both.

I really don't get most of what Doug is ranting about - why would you make a Jurassic Park movie with a R rating? It's a family movie franchise with some nightmare fuel for children. Also his insistance on just because a film is a 'B-Movie' every single aspect of that movie has to be of 'B-quality' seems unnecessarily rigid thinking. He seems to get more worked up about what the movie didn't do rather than what the movie did do or at least tried to do. I'm with Robb on this one all the way

Jurassic World was a fun ride, it was worthy to be in the Jurassic Park franchise. Some ideas that could've been better? 1. Coke 2 was bred to be a veggie eater that just looks like a carnivore/T-rex to attract tourists -It was guarded with much less care than the meat eaters. 2. Jurassic World is under constant private hired militia/mercenary merged with US military to make sure if any dinosaurs escaped, it's their job to rescue the tourists -explains Chris Pratt's character and the other military guy's involvement. 3. Coke 2 escaped during a transfer to its exhibition location because of its tracker glitches, due to bad weather. 4.Trackers contains shockers, stormy weather is ruining the shocking function, which made it hard to stun all dinosaurs. 5.All remaining survivors were delivered to Coke 2's (empty) exhibition center, where there's a giant moat that would protect them from dinosaurs, except from the pteradons. 6.Coke 2 utilized the camouflage ability a few more times while hunting Attack on Titan armored Titan style. 7.Coke 2 is a veggie eater but is hunting purely for sport -it's ripping tourists apart without care for food 8.When the military entered, it was a dinosaur battle royale of both humans against dinosaurs and dinosaurs against dinosaurs. 9.Finally, the military contained all the dinosaurs, except for Coke 2 -because they were trained to contain all species except for the hybrid. Which was yet to be studied but the boardroom is pushing them to put it out on display. 10.Coke 2 never had any raptor genes - but due to genetic splicing of different DNA and random central dogma bullcrap, the DNA mixed between different species made a convergent DNA equivalent of raptor intelligence and was able to communicate with them.

I haven't seen Jurassic World yet, but wouldn't the whole "R-rating" thing that Doug pondered about kind of betray the family-friendly nature that this whole movie franchise is inherently built upon?
@Aubry929 жыл бұрын
I mean I don't want him to fully compromise his feelings for the sake of the "purpose" of the movie; like if he just felt the action was mostly lame in this film then that sounds like a fine enough point to make, right? But yeah, sometimes his critiquing seems needlessly unrealistic to what the film is trying to go for, and "more disturbing gore" isn't what I'd say a *Jurassic Park* film is necessarily about.

Sir Jamesman! in my opinion based on watching this review, Doug wanted this movie to be an over the top generic Scifi channel horror flick. Because it did go dumb b-movie, but still maintaining the style and themes of the original, Doug could not be satisfied and probably never will be.

Watching Rob's face during Doug's rant definitely summed up my reactions. Absolutely agreed with Rob. One main thing, though: No one trusted Vincent D'Onofrio's character, they only went along with the things he did was because he threw his authority around in the control room and Chris Pratt didn't want the Raptor plan to end badly. The only thing I agree with Doug about is the look of Indominus Rex. The sickly-white skin and the camo was fine, but it's mouth opened so far open that the character just looked silly. It would have looked cooler to have looked less like a standard bipedal-carnivore, but I think they wanted to not allow an alien-looking creature.
@BladeBlur9 жыл бұрын
For once I agree with Rob. I think Doug analyzes this movie way too much for a movie that is suppose to be lighthearted and fun. Who cares if Chris Pratt and the Clare character don't share much screen time, or that he can communicate with raptors, or other issues, YOU SUSPEND YOUR DISBELIEF. Unlike the previous they actually bothered giving us more than one dimensional characters. Also, while the Petrarex hybrid did look artificial at times, the scene of them in the part was really heart wrenching considering how many innocent people in the part were attacked, which was to me the highlight of the movie, more than the T-Rex fight. This movie had a lot of passion behind it, and I am not usually a technical kind of guy, but I admire the cinematography, the effects and how well they managed to deliver a sense of fear and dread. Heck, at least Chris Pratt was more memorable than Tom Hardy as Mad Max.

Zalmai Azimi True, but the lesson still applies. You don't need something pretty to be good, just as long you got good writing and characters. Best example, James Cameron Avatar and The Order: 1886, they try so hard to be visually presentable that the story kinda suffers.
@HalfDemonInuyasha9 жыл бұрын

Zalmai Azimi Although, in the case of "The Order: 1886", it tries to be both a movie and a video game and fails horribly in both regards. Other games try to give a "cinematic experience" but still have engaging gameplay. For instance, the new Lara Croft game and the Uncharted series tried to make cinematic experiences but at least the game play was interesting.

khknight The thing is, the more you watch CGI, the more you except the falseness of it all. When you're Like Doug or even Rob, and grew-up seeing movies with amazing practical effects ,CGI cannot compare to them. In the 90's, and at that the early 90's, they created masterful levels of CGI. CGI that looked so good, you could hardly tell that it was fake. We have advanced in our CGI since then, for better and for worse. Better because talented animators can make insanely real looking images, and allow audiences to feel connected to the film they are watching. On the other hand, that also means it allows " not so good" animators to work on projects; given that they want the movie to come out faster.. I'm sure the artist's that worked on this movie worked hard to complete it, but I doubt they have the raw talent that those Animator's of the original JP had. Today's audiences,( especially those from the age group from toddler to young adult) tend to not care about the realistic quality of CGI anymore. I for one, was only impressed once in JW. In JP, I sit in awe at the amazing quality of those realistic dinosaurs ,even today. And i'd say given the tools and money at their disposal, the JW team could've made a proper squeal/reboot.

I don't get where this controversy about Jurassic World ignoring The Lost World and JP3 comes from. The official spin-off website for the film makes reference to Hoskins' leadership of a "clean-up" operation in 2001, which involved shooting down the Pteranodon that were seen flying to the mainland at the end of JP3. This confirms that JP3 is still considered canon, which means in turn that The Lost World is also canon, as it was directly referenced in JP3. Indominus really didn't look like just a giant raptor either. It lacked killing the toe claws, the head was a different shape, raptors didn't have scutes, quills and horns, and not to mention, it had a heavier build and didn't sound like a raptor at all.

_Lost World_ and _Jurrassic Park III_ still happened. I don't get why people keep saying this film ignores them! 1) They were on a different island, so it doesn't really affect the new film to start. 2) Ian Malcolm's book is a talking point and both 2 and 3. And guess where it showed up? On someone's desk in _Jurrassic World_. Look for it. It's there. The San Diego incident is the only potential "pick." And even then, time wears things away. We as a culture, wouldn't care about it after 20+ years.

The romance in movie 1 was better because it was more realistic, most couples don't have chemistry just jumping out at every moment. They were two middle aged people who were kind of in a rut, with a woman who wanted kids, and a dude who was like "meh". That's fucking realistic. Sweating hunky Chris Pratt saying "let's talk in my trailer" to sexy a red head CEO while she's giving him the "You are a brute, and I should be disgusted, but I'm gonna fuck that" look. That is fucking unrealistic, that's basically porn.

DutchDread HOLY SHIT!, I just realized what should have happened. I was wondering how the T-rex fight should have gone, because sorry, this one still sucks, because the T-rex fucking lost...AGAIN! If you can't have the T-rex win in a straight fight, then fight, let the raptors join in is what I was thinking, as long as they are just helping him fight, not having to fucking save him from getting his ass kicked. Then I thought, or better yet, reveal two rexes and have them tag team him. But then it hit me, if you want it to be the original T-rex, then let him awesomely walk out of the darkness...and have his kids follow him. It's a mommy now, fucking hunting time.

Important thing to remember: The films were always fairly "pussified." The novel had its fair share of violence with the (spoiler if you care to read the book,) death of Hammond, Wu, and the staff. So Doug you say that this hybrid dinosaur has the head of a raptor and has the hands of a raptor. From what you say it sounds like you haven't seen any pictures of theropods (meat eating dinosaurs) other than T-rex and raptors. Because if you have you would know that your description of it is how almost 80% of all the currently known theropods looks like, if you count out those that are actually raptors. What seperates it though from those 80% is that it has an unique jaw, longer arms, more fingers and a larger brain.

Me and Doug came to exactly the same points as soon as I left the theatre. It's pretty eerie.

26:16 ish. Thanks for the "half a brain" comment, Doug. I had thought it was gonna be part T-Rex xP

Not as intense? I thought the Pterodactyl scene and the Raptor Hunt were very intense and gruesome, even without the R rating. And am I the only one really tired of people whining about CGi all the time? People say it "looks fake" without practical effect but I thought it looked great! And people complain about CGi taking away the hard work of the practical effects artists, but is everyone just going to ignore all the hard work the CGi animators do to bring all of this to life?
