Today, as he was held responsible for the death of GF, none of his brothers/sisters in blue speaking in his defense, his eyes were disbelieving, afraid, powerless, seemingly looking for someone somewhere to help him. Reminds me of what GF eyes may have conveyed if he had had enough life in him to have control of his eyes. I don't care what the verdict is one way or another, but this was absolutely a mistrial. Not immediately sequestering the jury? Not moving it out of Minneapolis? Having political figures consistently say that they hope for a guilty verdict? Allowing for over a week of non-probative testimony? It was a mess of a trial, and if the appellate court is serious about it in any way, I'd say it has a good shot at being overturned due to the sheer lack of legitimate due process. The jury was unanimous after less than a full calendar day of deliberation. In a case with that much evidence it doesn't happen unless they walked away with a verdict in mind.
@Basch1523 жыл бұрын
why would they need more deliberation? prosecution with little question proved he was guilt on the counts brought before him
@tameniai3 жыл бұрын
Most juries aren't sequestered. Change of venue isn't actually granted all that often. I was honestly surprised the jury didn't come back after a few hours. The first thing any jury does when released to consider is take a vote as the entire point of the trial is for the jury to decide for themselves a verdict and then come to a conclusion together to ensure that their verdicts considered all the evidence fairly. A 'full day' of deliberation is actually considered to be eight hours, so they did actually take the full day.
@samuelmerkel28883 жыл бұрын
@@tameniai Wouldn;t you agree that it's somewhat pointless to say that most juries aren't sequestered, and that venue change is rare, when this is the biggest, most widely publicized case since Rodney King, and in comparison has bigger consequences, right? When congress people, mayors, and the president are all pressing for a specific verdict, and the situation has been broadcast for a year, and the situation caused millions of dollars of damages last summer in the area that the trial is taking place, additional precautions obviously should've been taken to protect from prejudice. It's true, these precautions are rare. But they exist FOR these situations.
